Book excerpt: Nach einem Rückblick auf die zehnjährige Fachdiskussion zur Diagnostik in der Sozialen Arbeit wird für die Entwicklung eines integrativen Konzeptes plädiert, das zur Überwindung der blockierenden Polarisierung zwischen den hermeneutisch-rekonstruktiven und den klassifikatorisch-erkenntnislogischen Ansätzen beitragen soll.Auf der Basis einer Analyse der erkenntnistheoretischen und handlungstheoretischen Grundlagen dieser Modelle werden Aspekte einer Theorie der Diagnostik erörtert (Zielsetzung, Gegenstand, Verwendungskontext und Gütekriterien der Diagnostik). Dabei wird auch ein Modell phasen- und kontextspezifischer diagnostischer Anforderungen entwickelt, das die Auswahl und die unterschiedliche Kombination mehr oder minder standardisierter und formalisierter, mehr oder minder operationalisierter, sowie mehr oder minder dialogischer Verfahren begründet. Es wird von der Prämisse ausgegangen, dass bei der Entscheidung für bestimmte Ansätze den erläuterten Standards professionellen Handelns und der Praktikabilität der Modelle im Berufsalltag ebenso große Bedeutung zukommt wie den wissenschaftlich begründeten Kriterien zuverlässiger, präziser und überprüfbarer Informationsverarbeitung unter Berücksichtigung der Ergebnisse empirischer Untersuchungen. Hinweise auf publizierte Diagnoseverfahren ergänzen diese theoretischen Überlegungen.

Im Fokus dieser Ausarbeitung soll das soziale Atom nach Jacob Levy Moreno mit seinen unterschiedlichen Variationen stehen. Dafür werden in einem ersten Schritt die Grundlagen von sozialer Diagnostik dargelegt, um Netzwerkdiagnostik in den diagnostischen Prozess in der Sozialen Arbeit einzuordnen. Hierbei wird auf Definitionen, Quellen und Funktionen/Formen von sozialer Diagnostik und auf das Praxismodell der Gestaltungsdiagnostik eingegangen. Um Netzwerkdiagnostik theoretisch zu verorten, wird im Anschluss daran die Netzwerk- und Supportforschung konkretisiert. Auf der Basis dieser Überlegungen folgt die Darstellung des sozialen Atoms als netzwerkdiagnostisches Verfahren in der Praxis der Sozialen Arbeit. Hierbei werden die praktische Durchführung erläutert, unterschiedliche Variationen des sozialen Atoms vorgestellt und eine Auswahl an diagnostischen Kriterien zur Auswertung des sozialen Atoms vertieft. In einem Fazit werden die Erkenntnisse zusammengefasst und abschließend einige Besonderheiten und Kritikpunkte des sozialen Atoms als netzwerkdiagnostisches Verfahren diskutiert. Die Analyse der sozialen Einbindung und sozialen Beziehungen von Menschen wird als Netzwerkdiagnostik bezeichnet und stellt wohl die „Königsdisziplin der sozialen Diagnostik“ dar. Mit Hilfe von Netzwerkdiagnostik, die sich den lebensweltlichen Beziehungen von Klient:innen widmet, lassen sich Aussagen über die Quantität, die Qualität und die Ressourcen von sozialen Netzwerken und den ihnen innewohnenden sozialen Beziehungen treffen. Es können Antworten auf die Fragen gefunden werden, welche förderlichen Beziehungen für die Bewältigung von Problemen stabilisiert und intensiviert werden können oder zur Verfügung stehen, welche neuen Beziehungen aufgebaut oder reaktiviert werden können, oder welche dysfunktionale Beziehungen beendet werden sollten. Diese Erkenntnisse können Ausgangspunkte für Interventionen und Handlungsmöglichkeiten in der Sozialen Arbeit bieten.
