This book was released on 2012 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airport employees are vital to the operation of an airport. They staff the airport on a daily basis from well before the first flight operation until after the last flight operation, which at many airports is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Airport employees generate a significant number of vehicle trips to and from the airport each day, which impacts air quality, airport traffic conditions, and traffic in the communities surrounding the airport and on the freeway system. The purpose of this report was to determine what is known about airport employee commute patterns and commute modes, what programs are being offered to airport employees by the airport operator or a transportation management association (TMA) to provide them with alternatives to the drive alone commute to work, how progress is being monitored, what is known about the effectiveness of airport employee commute options (ECO) programs, what the challenges are for the providers of such programs, and to research some ECO programs offered by non-airport employers for program elements that may have applicability in the airport environment. This report was accomplished through a literature search of airport employee commute programs, commute programs offered by non-airport employers that may have applicability in the airport environment, and through interviews with four U.S. and one U.K. airport operators (of 16 airports and 3 TMAs identified, 84 percent interviewed) that offer comprehensive airport ECO programs. Each of the five case studies provides an example of how ECO strategies are applied in the airport environment.

Book excerpt: Under Contemporary Challenges are environmental issues that have received considerable public support and concern; they include: climate change, acid rain, deforestation, endangered species, biodiversity, ecorisk, cultural resources, and sustainability. For most of these issues, there are scientific agreements and disagreements; there are many uncertainties, thus views differ widely. These topics are discussed in considerable detail. Notwithstanding uncertainties and differing views on such topics, all of this information is put in a policy context such that progress towards addressing these contemporary challenges can be made while consensus on the nature and extent of the problem and resultant solutions are being developed. The book provides considerable information about many timeless issues. These issues range from resources needed for sustaining the quality of life on the planet: air resources to natural resources.

Book excerpt: This guidebook presents various parking strategies and technologies that are employed, or have potential applications, at airports in the United States. This guidebook will assist airport operators in (1) determining their specific goals as they relate to public parking and their customer needs; (2) gaining an understanding of the parking strategies and technologies that correspond to their goals; and (3) evaluating benefits, costs, and implementation. With parking as the primary source of non-airline revenue at airports, and usually the customer's first and last experience with the airport, it is an important focus in an airport's overall strategic plan. ACRP Report 24 provides - in a single source - a buffet of parking strategies and technologies to complement and achieve airport operators' long-term goals and objectives. This guidebook will be useful to airport parking owners and operators, and their consultants, as they strive to better accommodate the needs of their customers, improve customer service, increase operational efficiency, and enhance net revenues.
