This book was released on 2015-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing the evolutionary history and classification in the planktic foraminifera of the Late Cretaceous age also led to the proliferation of taxa names and an unprecedented expansion in terminology. This new data is spread out over several tens of articles published in international journals and books. Handbook of Late Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera (Practical Classification, Biostratigraphy) brings a variety of this data into the practical field in a ready-to-use form. The species and genera of all the Cretaceous planktic foraminiferal groups are described and illustrated, and additional readings are recommended. Each species is dedicated to one of the 237 plates illustrated with high-quality scanning, electron microscope photographs. The large-sized illustrations are designed to allow the reader to connect quickly with the gross test architecture data with those pertaining to the wall ultrastructure, ornamentation, porosity and high detail morphological features of the test. Fossil material was collected from a variety of localities worldwide, but most of them are from sites in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. With higher than 95% of estimated coverage, the handbook is designed as a useful identification tool for a variety of professionals interested in using the Late Cretaceous planktic foraminifera. Revised stratigraphical ranges for all the 237 species are given in a chart calibrated on the classical Cretaceous Stage/Age scale in which the species are ordered by genus.

This book was released on 2020-08-20 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the opening volume of a series that represents the first modern, extensive study of the planktic foraminifera of the Late Cretaceous Age. This group of microscopical single-celled protistans are the most used in the biostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous successions, and, from this perspective, this book is of paramount importance for specialists in oil industry and academia. This first volume is dedicated to one iconic group of planktics, the globotruncanids. It describes 61 species that are grouped into thirteen genera, illustrating them with high-quality photographs that emphasize the spectacular morphology of this foraminiferal group. With emphasis on the test ultrastructures and high-detail morphological characters in concert with the features pertaining of the general test architecture, this work provides the most comprehensive perspective on this group of foraminifera. The work will provide specialists and students with a wealth of ready-to-use data in a wide array of applications, from biostratigraphy to evolution.
Book Synopsis Biostratigraphic and Geological Significance of Planktonic Foraminifera by : Marcelle K. BouDagher-Fadel
Download or read book Biostratigraphic and Geological Significance of Planktonic Foraminifera written by Marcelle K. BouDagher-Fadel and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2015-10-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of fossil planktonic foraminifera as markers for biostratigraphical zonation and correlation underpins most drilling of marine sedimentary sequences and is key to hydrocarbon exploration. The first - and only - book to synthesise the whole biostratigraphic and geological usefulness of planktonic foraminifera, Biostratigraphic and Geological Significance of Planktonic Foraminifera unifies existing biostratigraphic schemes and provides an improved correlation reflecting regional biogeographies.Renowned micropaleontologist Marcelle K. Boudagher-Fadel presents a comprehensive analysis of existing data on fossil planktonic foraminifera genera and their phylogenetic evolution in time and space. This important text, now in its Second Edition, is in considerable demand and is now being republished by UCL Press.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Microfossil Biostratigraphy by : M. Dan Georgescu
Download or read book Introduction to Microfossil Biostratigraphy written by M. Dan Georgescu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook will appeal to students and graduates making their first steps in the application of both microfossils and stratigraphy. It presents, in detail, the historical development of microfossil biostratigraphy, from its birth to the emergence of sequence stratigraphy, including its roots in classical biostratigraphy. The interplay between the academic and economical challenges, on one hand, and developments in microfossil biostratigraphy, on the other, is explored thoroughly. The book also presents an introduction to the scientific concepts used in microfossil biostratigraphy practice, and the uses in microbiostratigraphy of 25 groups of microfossils, such as algae, protistans, reproductive plant debris, invertebrates, chordates and vertebrates, and microproblematica groups. It also provides a numerical method to calculate the biostratigraphical resolution of these microfossil groups.
Book Synopsis Plankton Stratigraphy: Volume 1, Planktic Foraminifera, Calcareous Nannofossils and Calpionellids by : Hans M. Bolli
Download or read book Plankton Stratigraphy: Volume 1, Planktic Foraminifera, Calcareous Nannofossils and Calpionellids written by Hans M. Bolli and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1989-05-25 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive synthesis of our knowledge of the biostratigraphy of marine plankton is the work of an international team of eighteen authors. It covers all the major fossil groups that can be used to date sediments and rocks in the time interval Late Mesozoic to Holocene. Altogether more than 3200 taxa are considered, almost all of which are illustrated and depicted on range charts, making the book a valuable work of reference in the earth sciences. For ease of reference by specialists interested in either calcareous or non-calcareous microfossils, the original work is now divided into two independent volumes. Volume I covers the calcareous microfossils and includes planktic foraminifers, calcareous nannofossils and calpionellids.
