Book Synopsis Neuropeptide Receptors in the CNS by : Anders Björklund
Download or read book Neuropeptide Receptors in the CNS written by Anders Björklund and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1992 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. This volume is complementary to two earlier volumes in the series, Volumes 4 and 9.An excellent group of authors, each expert in their respective areas, address the diversity of neuropeptides and their receptors and have produced an excellent and well-illustrated state-of-the-art report. The number of putative transmitters in the central nervous system has increased dramatically during the last two decades. Extensive mapping studies on these compounds have been carried out in adult brain, especially in the rat. This present volume gives a detailed description of various stages, and comprehensive overviews of the development/ontogenetic profiles of many of these compounds. These well-organized chapters will help utilize and deal with the abundant knowledge on this topic as well as to incorporate this knowledge for future advances.

Download or read book Ontogeny of Transmitters and Peptides in the CNS written by Anders Björklund and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1992 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. This tenth volume of The Handbook of Chemical Neuroanatomy focuses on the ontogeny of transmitters, transmitter-related enzymes and neuropeptides in the CNS. The coverage is broad and gives a comprehensive and systematic survey of the principal ontogenic features of the neurotransmitter and neuromodulator systems in the mammalian CNS.The volume represents a continuation of earlier volumes of the handbook series, in which the distribution of classical transmitters and peptides has been described in the adult brain. It is also to a certain extent complementary to Volume 6 on the peripheral nervous system, where developmental and ontogenic aspects in the periphery are discussed. This volume, with an unusually wide international authorship, will be an asset to the series and to neuroscience libraries.

Book Synopsis Peptide Receptors, Part I by : A. Bjorklund
Download or read book Peptide Receptors, Part I written by A. Bjorklund and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-06-08 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last few years, the pace of research in the field of neuropeptide receptors has increased steadily: new neuropeptides were discovered, and the classification of receptor subtypes has been refined. It thus appeared essential to update the information. Peptide Receptors Part I summarizes current knowledge on ten distinct peptide families. This volume integrates photomontages and maps of quantitative receptor autoradiography, in situ hybridization histochemistry, and immunocytochemistry images. Application of these classical techniques and of new approaches such as transgenic and knock-out animals has revealed a distinct species and tissue specific variation in receptor subtypes expression and pharmacology in the mammalian central nervous system. The functional role of neuropeptides and their receptors in the CNS has been investigated thanks to the development of potent and selective receptor antagonists and agonists. The development of specific neuropeptide-related molecules will help to get a better understanding of receptor subtype physiology and neuronal distribution and may lead to innovative treatments in a variety of brain disorders.
