Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The minister and former Marine tells his story of miraculous transformation from growing up in Spanish Harlem to walking around the world for peace. Known to many as the Walking Man, Danny Garcia has taken more than 52,000,000 steps across six contents to spread God’s message of love and peace. In this powerful memoir, he not only tells the story of his inspiring ministry, but also recounts his own personal journey of transformation, from darkness and sorrow to a life of light, joy, and freedom in Christ. Danny tells of growing up in Spanish Harlem before joining the Marines as a teenager. He went on to serve in law enforcement before being called to the ministry. With frank honesty, he discusses his conversion from a life wasted on drugs to one of devotion to knowing and serving God at all costs. Marines Don’t Cry describes Danny’s encounters with Pope John II, U.S. presidents, kings and queens, heads of states and global figures. It is an inspiring story of faith, the transformative power of God’s love, and how Danny has made it his life’s work to love his neighbor, to love himself, and to spread hope.

Book excerpt: Having packaged his more than 3,100 poems in chronological and themed collections, poet & writer Thomas Porky McDonald had the idea of putting together a volume of some relevant pieces that feature his lifetime home of Queens, New York. On addition, Porkwalk: The Queens Collection utilizes the same formula that McDonald chose in a previous collection based on his 20 years working out of neighboring Brooklyn, Dem Poems: The Brooklyn Collection. The 364 poems contained in this book are divided into sections, with old friends, his Astoria neighborhood, baseball and the losses he has suffered in the mix. This collection brings the poet back to where it all began and is thus arguably the most important one to date.

But Walter Wangerin side-steps such easy answers and offers us instead an intimate portrait of his own courtship and thirty-two year marriage-and a pastoral view of married life that inspires readers to view their own marriages with new honesty and hope. Wangerin's six tasks of marriage encourages couples to better understand and happily live out the vows they made, giving them tools to nurture and maintain a strong marital relationship. In his endorsement, Philip Yancey accurately describes this book as "an enduring classic and a book of wisdom, beauty, compassion, and piercing honesty."

Book excerpt: This inspirational memoir travels one womans road to generational adulthood as she resists, then embraces, her parents aging and eventual deaths. Wendy Karasins descriptive passages offer readers the opportunity to experience the normalcy and enormity of what happens in her life. As Wendy is pushed into a caregiving role that grows exponentially, she must surrender to an inability to alter her parents fate. Her pain morphs from engagement to acceptance, and ultimately compassion. The experiences that unravel her also transform her. With seventy-nine million baby boomers and forty million seniors, the imperative requirement for conscious end-of-life conversation has arrived. The Moon To Play With is more than the memoir of the authors loss of both parents. Beautifully written, Wendy Karasin shares the sensitive transition to true adulthoodas defined by the moment when one is no longer anyones child. Wendy gracefully takes us on her journey with the understanding that this path is one we all walk at some point. She writes with emotional transparency, and without the triteness that can accompany a subject so sensitive. Wendy Karasins story is that of a universal experience, told with grace and soul." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God Don't Lie is the story of Richard Smith, who has lived almost three decades inside some of the worst prisons in the state of Texas. At age five, his family moved to the big city of Houston. There his life spun completely out of control, resulting in drug abuse, violence, and multiple incarcerations as a juvenile. At sixteen, he was arrested for murder, merely fifteen hours after being released from a juvenile facility. After being tried as an adult, he entered prison at age seventeen with a ninety-nine-year sentence. After experiencing violence in some of Texas's worst prisons, he joined the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang. He worked his way up to the rank of captain and got lost in its world of violence and racism. He was placed in long-term solitary confinement in 1993 and spent the next thirteen years locked in a cage within the cage. He was moved around to some of Texas's most violent prisons until one day, he woke up to the insanity of his life and decided to change. In 2006, he was released from solitary confinement and began the long road of rehabilitation in a place not designed to rehabilitate. He achieved two associate's degrees, as well as completed vocational trades in diesel mechanics and welding. At thirty-nine years of age, he turned his life to God and began living as a godly man inside the ungodly walls of prison. The title of this book rests on a statement made by his grandmother during a frantic call from his mom when he was arrested for murder. His mom thought he would be given the death penalty. His grandmother assured her that he would not because God had great things planned for his life, and "God don't lie."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the area of ballpark hopping, there have been a number of accounts written, recorded or talked about in recent times, sometimes for a cause or others just as a gimmick. Through Poet in the Grandstand, poet and writer Thomas Porky McDonald gives us a most unique twist on a preoccupation which has grown in the past few decades, in the wake of the closings of classic old yards and the birth of the more entertainment and nostalgia driven open-air parks. From his first trip in 1990, to the fabled Comiskey Park of Shoeless Joe Jackson, Bill Veeck and the Go-Go Sox, on through to the 2010 opening of Minnesotas fabulous Target Field, featuring the modern M&M Boys, Joe Mauer and Justin Mourneau, McDonald offers up a book that is part travelogue and part poetic tribute to all the places that men and women have gone to over the years for a very personal sense of joy. This journey, done methodically, over two decades, picks up steam as the chapters begin to flow. The effect of McDonald himself clearly growing as a poet through the years is accentuated by the fact that more and more pieces are written in the later trips. The end result is a most interesting volume of not just ballparks, but Americana, as numerous attractions taken in during those ballpark weeks and weekends are also noted and/or dissected. For fourteen seasons on his own and then six more accompanied by friend and confidant Adam Boneker, McDonalds travels, highlighted by over 300 poems, can take the reader back to a simpler time or into the possibilities of the future. In chapter and in verse, Poet in the Grandstand has something for both the baseball enthusiast and the curious traveler. Fans of the game and lovers of the road will each find much to offer within these pages.
