Book Synopsis Regionalism in a Changing World by : Lorenzo Fioramonti
Download or read book Regionalism in a Changing World written by Lorenzo Fioramonti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regionalism has been a key feature of contemporary international relations. As the most successful case of regional integration, the European Union (EU) has been leading the international debate. Yet, in the past few years new regional practices have emerged in other continents, thus adding to the variety and scope of regionalization processes. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the state of regionalism in a global arena ever more dominated by emerging powers and shifting political/economic balances. Against the backdrop of the global economic crisis, which has invariably weakened Europe and its integration model, the book examines the pace of integration in Africa, Asia and South America, highlighting the opportunities and challenges that the new global order poses to contemporary regionalisms. Besides a number of empirical case studies focusing on the political, economic and legal aspects of regionalization, the book also discusses innovative theoretical approaches to the study of regionalism in a post-European context. This book was originally published as a special issue of The International Spectator.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America is a region made up of multiple states with a diversity of races, ethnicities, and cultures. In 'Transnational Perspectives on Latin America', Luis Roniger argues that a regional perspective is significant for understanding this part of the Western hemisphere. He claims that geopolitical, sociological, and cultural trends molded a contiguity of influences, shaping a transnational arena of connected histories, cross-border interactions, and shared visions, complementing the process of separate nation-state formation.--
Book Synopsis Re-defining Children’s Participation in the Countries of the South by : Graciela Tonon
Download or read book Re-defining Children’s Participation in the Countries of the South written by Graciela Tonon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-08 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is centered on the participation of children in countries of the South. In this sense, it will review the possibilities of children's participation, as well as their forms of participation in different contexts of daily life. There has been a tendency to underestimate children’s role as active constructors of their surrounding social space, as well as of the internalized interpretations of the way social life operates. Today it is necessary to recognize that children are agents actively involved in the construction of their own lives and the life of the societies they live in; and in this sense, it is important to consider and re-signify the participation of boys and girls as a fundamental pillar in the process of building societies in the 21st century. The book contains chapters that re-significate children’s participation in different countries from South America and South Africa, in relation with different topics: well-being, methods, citizenship, poverty, education, rurality, ethics and human rights.
Book Synopsis Interregionalism across the Atlantic Space by : Frank Mattheis
Download or read book Interregionalism across the Atlantic Space written by Frank Mattheis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on interregional relations across the Atlantic and the possible evolution of a new, distinctive Atlantic space for international relations. It provides a comprehensive insight into the overlapping linkages of interregionalism in the wider Atlantic space. Additionally, it raises the question of relevance, currently the main question in this field of research: Is interregionalism important because it brings about something new that really matters or is it simply a (perhaps unavoidable) by-product of regionalism? The book conducts an analysis of six interregional relations criss-crossing the Atlantic space, accounting for the multitude of interregional connections within a potential Atlantic macro region and analysing the differences, conflicts and convergences between regional organizations. It engages with the issue of agency in interregional relations, and argues that interregional processes and agendas are always driven and constructed by certain actors for certain purposes.
Book Synopsis From International Relations to Relations International by : Philip Darby
Download or read book From International Relations to Relations International written by Philip Darby and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings postcolonial critique directly to bear on established ways of theorizing international relations. Its primary concern is with the non-European world and its relations with the North. In advancing an alternative conception of "relations international", the book draws on alternative source material and different forms of writing. It also features short stories, an interview and explores the role of poetics and performance. The suzerainty of the disciplinary writ is challenged on three primary grounds. Firstly on its Eurocentrism, which leads the discipline to pass lightly over the distinctive life experiences of most of the world’s people. Secondly, on the discipline’s failure to engage in any systematic way with other bodies of knowledge about the international, as for example international political economy, postcolonialism and development. Lastly, it confronts the ‘top down’ nature of the politics of the discipline, and that seldom addresses everyday life. From squatter towns to the evasions of the poor, from law through to literature, this work raises a number of problems for International relations. It challenges a colonial mindset, de-centres the west and opens the field to new approaches that are far more inter-disciplinary than international relations generally allows. It is a provocative contribution for students and scholars of IR and Postcolonial studies alike.
Book Synopsis The Politics of Wellbeing by : Ian Bache
Download or read book The Politics of Wellbeing written by Ian Bache and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-04 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first collection in the field of wellbeing studies that places politics centre stage. Through a combination of intellectual inquiry, empirically-grounded research, and investigation across different settings, this book aims to provide fresh insights and develop new lenses through which to understand the rise and significance of the wellbeing agenda. Divided into three parts, it considers how to define wellbeing for public policy; the prospects for wellbeing as a force for political change; and the link between policy agendas and the everyday lives of people. The book explores the key political issues of power, democracy, and the legitimacy of wellbeing evidence in a range of settings – international, national and subnational/substate. The volume will appeal to wellbeing and politics scholars, as well as students and general readers with an interest in these new political agendas.
