Book Synopsis Current Trends in Transformation Groups by : Anthony Bak
Download or read book Current Trends in Transformation Groups written by Anthony Bak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-07-31 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of some of the most active topics in the theory of transformation groups over the past decades and stresses advances obtained in the last dozen years. The emphasis is on actions of Lie groups on manifolds and CW complexes. Manifolds and actions of Lie groups on them are studied in the linear, semialgebraic, definable, analytic, smooth, and topological categories. Equivalent vector bundles play an important role. The work is divided into fifteen articles and will be of interest to anyone researching or studying transformations groups. The references make it easy to find details and original accounts of the topics surveyed, including tools and theories used in these accounts.

Book Synopsis Higher Homotopy Structures in Topology and Mathematical Physics by : James D. Stasheff
Download or read book Higher Homotopy Structures in Topology and Mathematical Physics written by James D. Stasheff and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the work of Stasheff and Sugawara in the 1960s on recognition of loop space structures on $H$-spaces, the notion of higher homotopies has grown to be a fundamental organizing principle in homotopy theory, differential graded homological algebra and even mathematical physics. This book presents the proceedings from a conference held on the occasion of Stasheff's 60th birthday at Vassar in June 1996. It offers a collection of very high quality papers and includes some fundamental essays on topics that open new areas.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications by : Jean-Pierre Magnot
Download or read book Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications written by Jean-Pierre Magnot and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-02-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS-EMS-SMF Special Session on Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications, held from July 18–20, 2022, at the Université de Grenoble-Alpes, Grenoble, France. The articles present some developments of the theory of diffeologies applied in a broad range of topics, ranging from algebraic topology and higher homotopy theory to integrable systems and optimization in PDE. The geometric framework proposed by diffeologies is known to be one of the most general approaches to problems arising in several areas of mathematics. It can adapt to many contexts without major technical difficulties and produce examples inaccessible by other means, in particular when studying singularities or geometry in infinite dimension. Thanks to this adaptability, diffeologies appear to have become an interesting and useful language for a growing number of mathematicians working in many different fields. Some articles in the volume also illustrate some recent developments of the theory, which makes it even more deep and useful.

Book Synopsis Algebraic Topology by : Gunnar Carlsson
Download or read book Algebraic Topology written by Gunnar Carlsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are proceedings of an International Conference on Algebraic Topology, held 28 July through 1 August, 1986, at Arcata, California. The conference served in part to mark the 25th anniversary of the journal Topology and 60th birthday of Edgar H. Brown. It preceded ICM 86 in Berkeley, and was conceived as a successor to the Aarhus conferences of 1978 and 1982. Some thirty papers are included in this volume, mostly at a research level. Subjects include cyclic homology, H-spaces, transformation groups, real and rational homotopy theory, acyclic manifolds, the homotopy theory of classifying spaces, instantons and loop spaces, and complex bordism.
