Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few years ago, I was working on my genealogy and started thinking, I see all these names on my family tree, but I know very little about them. Each one of them had a story to tell. Over the years, I have enjoyed telling my daughters and grandkids little stories about "when I was younger." And when we had the resort several times, we would say, "We should write a book about our resort experiences." So I decided to write down some stories for my grandkids. I started with the story about how God gave us Squaw Point Resort. Then he said, "Okay, let's move on to something new." As I look back on my life, I see all these pieces of a jigsaw puzzle coming together, and I can see how God has had a part in each piece.

Book Synopsis Life of the Trail 3 by : Emerson Sanford
Download or read book Life of the Trail 3 written by Emerson Sanford and published by Rocky Mountain Books Ltd. This book was released on 2009 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Life of the Trail" is a fascinating series that guides today's hikers and armchair travelers through the stories of historic routes in the Canadian Rockies. When authors Emerson Sanford and Janice Sanford Beck began backpacking together nearly 20 years ago, they often wondered whose footsteps they were retracing and how today's trails through the Rockies came to be there. In "Life of the Trail," they share their findings with adventurers and history buffs alike. "Life of the Trail 3: The Historic Route from Old Bow Fort to Jasper" starts at the remains of Peigan Post, originally built in 1832 and still visible today, located at the west end of the Morley Reserve. This entire route is now a contemporary road, but early in the 20th century the section north of Lake Louise was the main trail heading north and was very busy with pioneers, adventurers and explorers. The trail has been divided into three sections: Old Bow Fort to Lake Louise, Lake Louise to Sunwapta Pass and Sunwapta Pass to Jasper.

Book Synopsis Ojibwe Singers by : Michael David McNally
Download or read book Ojibwe Singers written by Michael David McNally and published by Minnesota Historical Society. This book was released on 2009 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early nineteenth century, Protestant missionaries promoted the translation of evangelical hymns into the Ojibwe language, regarding this music not only as a shared form of worship but also as a tool for rooting out native cultural identity. But for many Minnesota Ojibwe today, the hymns emerged from this history of material and cultural dispossession to become emblematic of their identity as a distinct native people. Author Michael McNally uses hymn singing as a lens to view culture in motion--to consider the broader cultural processes through which Native American peoples have creatively drawn on the resources of ritual to make room for survival, integrity, and a cultural identity within the confines of colonialism.

Book Synopsis Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan by : Lee Griffin
Download or read book Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan written by Lee Griffin and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the arrival of its first settler in 1829, the story of Kalamazoo has been an interesting one. Out of the southwest Michigan wilderness, a small 19th century village quickly blossomed into a 20th century city. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a wide variety of industries made Kalamazoo a boomtown. Everything from paper, corsets, taxicabs, and pharmaceuticals allowed Kalamazoo to develop into a major center of manufacturing. At the same time, several colleges that would establish the area as a center for education were organized and expanded.Fortunately, much of Kalamazoo's development has been well-documented through photographs and other visual illustrations. These images are the subjects of this volume, which is organized to show the varied elements of Kalamazoo's history. Gathered from local archives and private collections, most of these rare photographs have never before been published.
