Book excerpt: Preparation of interim land use and density guidelines for the Coastal Area of New Jersey has required an extensive analysis of the Coastal Area itself and of the short-term preservation, conservation and development issues. Work on this study began in July, 1975. In the succeeding eight months, the consultants spent considerable time both in the Coastal Area in Trenton. Field investigations were made and existing studies, reports, and plans dealing with the physical, economic, and social environment of the Area were reviewed. Close contact was maintained with the staffs of the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Community Affairs, and the Department of Labor and Industry who contributed significantly to the study. Numerous meetings were held with builders, environmental group representatives, public officials, and technical experts in various fields relating to the coastal Eco-system. County planners were particularly important contacts, reviewers, and critics. This report presents the results of the analysis and the recommendations for the guidelines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few states can offer the angling diversity that New Jersey can, which is why Tom Gilmore and Wilderness Adventures Press bring you the brand-new Flyfisher's Guide to New Jersey. New Jersey’s Highlands are reminiscent of New England, and its fall foliage rivals that of Vermont and New Hampshire. Its glacial lakes provide year-round fishing for salmonid species like rainbow, brown, and lake trout and even landlocked salmon. The freestone trout streams found in New Jersey’s Ridge and Valley physiographic province rival those found in the nearby Pocono and Catskills Mountains, and it even has a smattering of limestone spring creeks. The state's Pinelands harbor countless bass and pickerel lakes as well as crappies. New Jersey also has 127 miles of ocean-front beaches with ample public access. Its back bays, estuaries and tidal wetlands serve as nurseries for its many saltwater gamefish. Inshore and offshore opportunities for tuna, bluefish, marlin and more are also covered. Gilmore's 50-plus years of first-hand fishing knowledge guides readers as to where, when and how to catch over 30 species of gamefish. Over 200 freshwater and saltwater locations are covered in this guide, alongside dozens of detailed maps with GPS coordinates for access points, public and private lands, boat ramps, campgrounds, access roads and more. Flyfisher’s Guide to New Jersey is a must read for every fisherman (not just flyfisherman) who lives in or plans to visit New Jersey. Yes, you can flyfish in New Jersey. Learn all about it with the Flyfisher's Guide to New Jersey.

Includes extensive coverage of the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City. New Jersey is a state full of wonders to surprise curious travelers and residents alike. This guide leads you away from the busy interstate highways to reveal the cultural, historic, and geographical diversity that lies beyond the New Jersey Turnpike. For wine connoisseurs, there are more than 25 wineries that offer tours, tastings, and festivals; for history buffs, New Jersey, known as the "Cockpit of the Revolution," offers battlefield state parks, monuments, and reenactments. And that's not all: New Jersey's 127-mile shoreline has many diverse communities, including the historic Victorian seaside resort of Cape May, itself a national historic landmark; the casinos of Atlantic City; the natural beauty of Island Beach State Park, with sand dune-scattered, long, white beaches, nature trails, birding, surfing, and guided kayak tours; and the hip shore town of Red Bank, with art galleries, boutiques, bistros, and jazz clubs. In addition, this comprehensive guide to the state includes opinionated listings of inns, B&Bs, hotels, and vacation cabins; hundreds of dining reviews, from diners to four-star restaurants; up-to-date maps; an alphabetical "What's Where" subject guide to aid in trip planning; and handy icons that point out family-friendly establishments, wheelchair access, places of special value, and lodgings that accept pets.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Jersey Coast and Pines: An Illustrated Guide-Book (With Road-Maps) This aims to be an accurate descriptive guide-book to the Jersey Coast - from Sandy Hook to Atlantic City - and to the Jersey Pine Plains. New York City is taken as the starting-point, and the Sandy Hook and Jersey Southern routes as those respectively to the Coast and Pines; although one chapter, for the sake of completeness, describes the all-rail route via the N. Y. and Long Branch R. P., whose rates of fare are also included in the table of railroad fares in the Introduction. The illustrations, many of them from photographs by the author, and the maps, the first four of which are road-maps and almost in themselves a guide-book, were made especially for this work. Two fonts of type were adopted, in order to bring into sharp contrast the description of the Coast as it is and the historical portions which refer to the Coast as it was. Many historical incidents, some of them the result of original research, have been introduced; and doubtless not a few people who considered themselves familiar with the Coast and Pines will be surprised to discover how much romantic interest is attached to many of the places herein described. The author will esteem it a favor if any one discovering errors of commission or omission will call his attention to them.
