Download or read book Photonic Devices written by Jia-ming Liu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-11 with total page 1108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photonic devices lie at the heart of the communications revolution, and have become a large and important part of the electronic engineering field, so much so that many colleges now treat this as a subject in its own right. With this in mind, the author has put together a unique textbook covering every major photonic device, and striking a careful balance between theoretical and practical concepts. The book assumes a basic knowledge of optics, semiconductors and electromagnetic waves. Many of the key background concepts are reviewed in the first chapter. Devices covered include optical fibers, couplers, electro-optic devices, magneto-optic devices, lasers and photodetectors. Problems are included at the end of each chapter and a solutions set is available. The book is ideal for senior undergraduate and graduate courses, but being device driven it is also an excellent engineers' reference.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Integrated Optics by : Michael Barnoski
Download or read book Introduction to Integrated Optics written by Michael Barnoski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material presented in this volume is based on a series of lectures presented at an annual short course entitled "Integrated Optics" sponsored by the University of Cali fornia, Santa Barbara, in March of 1973. Each chapter has been authored by the individual lecturing on the particular subject matter con tained in that chapter. The primary intent of this book is to pro vide the students with a written version of the lecture material. The text treats a large variety of the basic structures and analysis techniques currently being employed in the rapidly growing area of technology termed "Integrated Optics." The volume contains both material that has previously been published in scientific journals and material which has not been published elsewhere. Since the field of integrated optics is in a stage of rapid expansion, a complete coverage of all the experimental results is difficult. As a result the emphasis is placed on the funda mental theoretical ideas and experimental results. The editor gratefully acknowledges the con tributing authors and the institutions with which they are associated for their wholehearted cooperation in the preparation of this book. Particular thanks are extended to the Hughes Research Laboratories, a division of the Hughes Aircraft Company.

Book Synopsis Acousto-Optical Laser Systems for the Formation of Television Images by : Yu V. Gulyaev
Download or read book Acousto-Optical Laser Systems for the Formation of Television Images written by Yu V. Gulyaev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses various approaches to television projection imaging on large screens using lasers. Results of theoretical and experimental studies of an acousto-optic projection system operating on the principle of projecting an image of an entire amplitude-modulated television line in a single laser pulse are presented. Characteristic features of image formation and requirements for individual components are discussed. Particular attention is paid to nonlinear distortions of the image signal, which show up most severely at low modulation signal frequencies. The feasibility of improving the process efficiency and image quality using acousto-optic modulators and pulsed lasers is studied.

Book Synopsis Guided-Wave Acousto-Optics by : Chen S. Tsai
Download or read book Guided-Wave Acousto-Optics written by Chen S. Tsai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of integrated- or guided-wave optics has experienced significant and continuous growth since its inception in the late 1960s. There has been a considerable increase in research and development activity in this field worldwide and some significant advances in the realization of working in tegrated optic devices and modules have been made in recent years. In fact, there have already been some commercial manufacturing and technical ap plications of such devices and modules. The guided-wave-acoustooptics involving Bragg interactions between guided optical waves and surface acoustic waves is one of the areas of in tegrated-optics that has reached some degree of scientific and technological maturity. This topical volume is devoted to an in-depth treatment of this emerging branch of science and technology. Presented in this volume are concise treatments on bulk-wave acoustooptics, guided-wave optics, and surface acoustic waves, and detailed studies of guided-wave acoustooptic Bragg diffraction in three promising material substrates, namely, LiNb0 , 3 ZnO/Si0 , and GaAs, the resulting wide band modulators and deflectors, 2 and applications. The chapters cover not only the basic principles and the oretical analysis, but also the design, fabrication, and measurement of the resulting devices and modules, and their applications.
