Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of the first paperback edition of The Poems of T. S. Eliot This two-volume critical edition of T. S. Eliot’s poems establishes a new text of the Collected Poems 1909–1962, rectifying accidental omissions and errors that have crept in during the century since Eliot’s astonishing debut, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” In addition to the masterpieces, The Poems of T. S. Eliot contains the poems of Eliot’s youth, which were rediscovered only decades later; poems that circulated privately during his lifetime; and love poems from his final years, written for his wife, Valerie. Calling upon Eliot’s critical writings as well as his drafts, letters, and other original materials, Christopher Ricks and Jim McCue have provided a commentary that illuminates the imaginative life of each poem. This first volume respects Eliot’s decisions by opening with his Collected Poems 1909–1962 as he arranged and issued it shortly before his death. This is followed by poems uncollected but either written for or suitable for publication, and by a new reading text of the drafts of The Waste Land. The second volume opens with the two books of verse of other kinds that Eliot issued: Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and Anabasis, his translation of St.-John Perse’s Anabase. Each of these sections is accompanied by its own commentary. Finally, pertaining to the entire edition, there is a comprehensive textual history that contains not only variants from all known drafts and the many printings but also extended passages amounting to hundreds of lines of compelling verse.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancients and moderns alike have constructed arguments and assessed theories on the basis of common sense and intuitive judgments. Yet, despite the important role intuitions play in philosophy, there has been little reflection on fundamental questions concerning the sort of data intuitions provide, how they are supposed to lead us to the truth, and why we should treat them as important. In addition, recent psychological research seems to pose serious challenges to traditional intuition-driven philosophical inquiry. Rethinking Intuition brings together a distinguished group of philosophers and psychologists to discuss these important issues. Students and scholars in both fields will find this book to be of great value.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some prophecies, like Daniel 2, for the most part, have been well understood by God’s people for hundreds of years. Daniel 11 is different. Though the symbols are thrown off in that prophecy, and the angel prophesies in plain language, the prophecy has been more difficult because so many applications have presented themselves to scholars, and it has not been clear which application is correct. That is particularly true of the last verses of Daniel 11. The author has solved that problem by making all of the applications correct one after another in a sequence. He finds there are more applications of the last verses of Daniel 11 than of any other known prophecy of scripture (seven)! No wonder the prophecy has been intractable so long! The author does careful exegesis and develops an unparalleled hermeneutic base for accurate interpretations (24 hermeneutic principles). The research is not fruitless or moot; because several earth shaking results are brought to view. Ellen White points out the truth “that the promises and threatenings of God are alike conditional.” 1SM 67. If the conditions were right, any of the last-day prophecies could be shortened by a Revelation 11:15-19 experience. Then let not the reader become irrevocably fixed on the scenario of events in this book. Prophecy will still be fulfilled no matter how events come to pass. And the 24 hermeneutic principles will hold true regardless. The reader will recognize the truth of the prophecies however they are fulfilled. God bless the reader as he/she reads and attempts to digest this book. May you learn from it precious things showing the nearness of the coming of Jesus. Amen.

Help youth workers provide a solid foundation for young teens with The Christian Life junior high school study resource. Part of the exciting Uncommon youth resource line, this straightforward presentation of the Gospel first explores who God is - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - then guides students through their relationships with God. Students will learn that God loves them no matter what; Jesus Christ is the only way to have a relationship with God; and the Holy Spirit lights the way to God. The three four-week modules examine one of the most critical parts of a young person's life, their faith. Lead students to discover that everyone is a sinner; how God's grace rescues us; and that we are to serve Him out of love and gratitude for His gift of grace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genesis of this book was in 1957 when the author was rejected from a loving courtship because he did not believe in the existence of God. To quell the pain, and to understand what had happened to him, he researched the evidence as to why people believe that God exists. The result was this book, a predominance of evidence in favor of atheism. Further, the author found that truth should always be held provisionally, not permanently, pending discovery of new evidence and insights. For example, the author’s atheism is provisional. His search also brought a tough new world. If God does not exist, we need new concepts for the meaning of life, the basis of morality, and our unalienable Rights to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. This book offers his solutions to those problems. And one more thing: The author’s recommendation in his final chapter for a new way to search for religious truth forms the most exciting part of this book, and possibly the most prophetic. Now, in 2016, 50 years after it had been offered to the world, and rejected by the publishers as a threat to their own interests, our society has come of age. And this book, with its eye-opening freshness still intact, is finally yours to learn from and to enjoy.
