Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is an addition to the existing literature about the symmetrical properties of sound waves. The authors clarify the algebraic and analytical nature of the dynamic acoustic problem. Operator equations which are typical for linear systems and the more general Lie method are considered, which can be applied even to nonlinear problems. The information obtained allows the reader to construct different types of analytical solutions of the different acoustic equation. The acoustic differential equation describes sound waves in elastic media. If the media is non-homogeneous then the acoustic equation is generally very complicated and its exact solutions or analytical solutions may be considered as rare. This volume applies Lie algebra and Lie group techniques to separate independent variables and obtains exact analytical solutions. Special attention is paid to homogeneous and non-homogeneous media with different symmetry properties. The full wave acoustic equation is considered as well as the so-called phase acoustic equation which arises in the short-wave approximation.

This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecturers provide a clear introduction to Lie group methods for determining and using symmetries of differential equations, a variety of their applications in gas dynamics and other nonlinear models as well as the author's remarkable contribution to this classical subject. It contains material that is useful for students and teachers but cannot be found in modern texts. For example, the theory of partially invariant solutions developed by Ovsyannikov provides a powerful tool for solving systems of nonlinear differential equations and investigating complicated mathematical models.
Book Synopsis CRC Handbook of Lie Group Analysis of Differential Equations by : Nail H. Ibragimov
Download or read book CRC Handbook of Lie Group Analysis of Differential Equations written by Nail H. Ibragimov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-11-28 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 offers a unique blend of classical results of Sophus Lie with new, modern developments and numerous applications which span a period of more than 100 years. As a result, this reference is up to date, with the latest information on the group theoretic methods used frequently in mathematical physics and engineering. Volume 2 is divided into three parts. Part A focuses on relevant definitions, main algorithms, group classification schemes for partial differential equations, and multifaceted possibilities offered by Lie group theoretic philosophy. Part B contains the group analysis of a variety of mathematical models for diverse natural phenomena. It tabulates symmetry groups and solutions for linear equations of mathematical physics, classical field theory, viscous and non-Newtonian fluids, boundary layer problems, Earth sciences, elasticity, plasticity, plasma theory (Vlasov-Maxwell equations), and nonlinear optics and acoustics. Part C offers an English translation of Sophus Lie's fundamental paper on the group classification and invariant solutions of linear second-order equations with two independent variables. This will serve as a concise, practical guide to the group analysis of partial differential equations.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Models, Information Theory, and Lie Groups, Volume 1 by : Gregory S. Chirikjian
Download or read book Stochastic Models, Information Theory, and Lie Groups, Volume 1 written by Gregory S. Chirikjian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique two-volume set presents the subjects of stochastic processes, information theory, and Lie groups in a unified setting, thereby building bridges between fields that are rarely studied by the same people. Unlike the many excellent formal treatments available for each of these subjects individually, the emphasis in both of these volumes is on the use of stochastic, geometric, and group-theoretic concepts in the modeling of physical phenomena. Stochastic Models, Information Theory, and Lie Groups will be of interest to advanced undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and practitioners working in applied mathematics, the physical sciences, and engineering. Extensive exercises and motivating examples make the work suitable as a textbook for use in courses that emphasize applied stochastic processes or differential geometry.
Book Synopsis Differential Equations and Group Methods for Scientists and Engineers by : James M. Hill
Download or read book Differential Equations and Group Methods for Scientists and Engineers written by James M. Hill and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-03-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential Equations and Group Methods for Scientists and Engineers presents a basic introduction to the technically complex area of invariant one-parameter Lie group methods and their use in solving differential equations. The book features discussions on ordinary differential equations (first, second, and higher order) in addition to partial differential equations (linear and nonlinear). Each chapter contains worked examples with several problems at the end; answers to these problems and hints on how to solve them are found at the back of the book. Students and professionals in mathematics, science, and engineering will find this book indispensable for developing a fundamental understanding of how to use invariant one-parameter group methods to solve differential equations.
Book Synopsis Group Analysis of Differential Equations by : L. V. Ovsiannikov
Download or read book Group Analysis of Differential Equations written by L. V. Ovsiannikov and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group Analysis of Differential Equations provides a systematic exposition of the theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras and its application to creating algorithms for solving the problems of the group analysis of differential equations. This text is organized into eight chapters. Chapters I to III describe the one-parameter group with its tangential field of vectors. The nonstandard treatment of the Banach Lie groups is reviewed in Chapter IV, including a discussion of the complete theory of Lie group transformations. Chapters V and VI cover the construction of partial solution classes for the given differential equation with a known admitted group. The theory of differential invariants that is developed on an infinitesimal basis is elaborated in Chapter VII. The last chapter outlines the ways in which the methods of group analysis are used in special issues involving differential equations. This publication is a good source for students and specialists concerned with areas in which ordinary and partial differential equations play an important role.
