Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vocabulary of Mechanics, Volume 2: Group 15. Mechanics of Fluids provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the mechanics of fluids. This book covers a variety of topics, including fluid mechanics, hydrostatics, aeromechanics, gas dynamics, aeroelasticity, and dynamic meteorology. Organized into two parts encompassing 95 sections, this volume begins with an overview of the branch of mechanics dealing with the phenomena of fluids in motion and at rest. This text then deals with the geometrical description of the flow of matter, irrespectively of the forces producing the motion. Other sections consider the instantaneous motion of a fluid element wherein the motion is composed of translation of the center of mass of a fluid element. This book discusses as well the relative equilibrium of liquids. The final section deals with the atmospheric air motion caused by several factors. This book is a valuable resource for engineers, scientists, and research workers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory fluid mechanics text, intended for the first Fluid Mechanics course required of all engineers. The goal of this book is to modernise the teaching of fluid mechanics by encouraging students to visualise and simulate flow processes. The book also introduces students to the capabilities of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques, the most important new approach to the study of fluids. Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics: Volume 2 by : C. S. Jog
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics: Volume 2 written by C. S. Jog and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid mechanics is the study of fluids including liquids, gases and plasmas and the forces acting on them. Its study is critical in predicting rainfall, ocean currents, reducing drag on cars and aeroplanes, and design of engines. The subject is also interesting from a mathematical perspective due to the nonlinear nature of its equations. For example, the topic of turbulence has been a subject of interest to both mathematicians and engineers: to the former because of its mathematically complex nature and to the latter group because of its ubiquitous presence in real-life applications. This book is a follow-up to the first volume and discusses the concepts of fluid mechanics in detail. The book gives an in-depth summary of the governing equations and their engineering related applications. It also comprehensively discusses the fundamental theories related to kinematics and governing equations, hydrostatics, surface waves and ideal fluid flow, followed by their applications.
Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics of Viscoelasticity by : R.R. Huilgol
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics of Viscoelasticity written by R.R. Huilgol and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-06-02 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The areas of suspension mechanics, stability and computational rheology have exploded in scope and substance in the last decade. The present book is one of the first of a comprehensive nature to treat these topics in detail. The aim of the authors has been to highlight the major discoveries and to present a number of them in sufficient breadth and depth so that the novice can learn from the examples chosen, and the expert can use them as a reference when necessary. The first two chapters, grouped under the category General Principles, deal with the kinematics of continuous media and the balance laws of mechanics, including the existence of the stress tensor and extensions of the laws of vector analysis to domains bounded by fractal curves or surfaces. The third and fourth chapters, under the heading Constitutive Modelling, present the tools necessary to formulate constitutive equations from the continuum or the microstructural approach. The last three chapters, under the caption Analytical and Numerical Techniques, contain most of the important results in the domain of the fluid mechanics of viscoelasticity, and form the core of the book. A number of topics of interest have not yet been developed to a theoretical level from which applications can be made in a routine manner. However, the authors have included these topics to make the reader aware of the state of affairs so that research into these matters can be carried out. For example, the sections which deal with domains bounded by fractal curves or surfaces show that the existence of a stress tensor in such regions is still open to question. Similarly, the constitutive modelling of suspensions, especially at high volume concentrations, with the corresponding particle migration from high to low shear regions is still very sketchy.
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics written by L D Landau and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Mechanics, Second Edition deals with fluid mechanics, that is, the theory of the motion of liquids and gases. Topics covered range from ideal fluids and viscous fluids to turbulence, boundary layers, thermal conduction, and diffusion. Surface phenomena, sound, and shock waves are also discussed, along with gas flow, combustion, superfluids, and relativistic fluid dynamics. This book is comprised of 16 chapters and begins with an overview of the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics, including Euler's equation and Bernoulli's equation. The reader is then introduced to the equations of motion of a viscous fluid; energy dissipation in an incompressible fluid; damping of gravity waves; and the mechanism whereby turbulence occurs. The following chapters explore the laminar boundary layer; thermal conduction in fluids; dynamics of diffusion of a mixture of fluids; and the phenomena that occur near the surface separating two continuous media. The energy and momentum of sound waves; the direction of variation of quantities in a shock wave; one- and two-dimensional gas flow; and the intersection of surfaces of discontinuity are also also considered. This monograph will be of interest to theoretical physicists.

Book excerpt: Very Short Introductions: Brilliant, Sharp, Inspiring Fluid mechanics is an important branch of physics concerned with the way in which fluids, such as liquids and gases, behave when in motion and at rest. A quintessential interdisciplinary field of science, it interacts with many other scientific disciplines, from chemistry and biology to mathematics and engineering. This Very Short Introduction presents the field of fluid mechanics by focusing on the underlying physical ideas and using everyday phenomena to demonstrate them, from dripping taps to swimming ducks. Eric Lauga shows how this set of fundamental physical concepts can be applied to a wide range of flow behaviours and highlights the role of fluid motion in both the natural and industrial worlds. This book also considers future applications of fluid mechanics in science.
