Download or read book GRIBOV-80 Memorial Volume written by Yu L. Dokshitzer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vladimir Naumovich Gribov was one of the most outstanding theoretical physicists, a key figure in the development of modern elementary particle physics. His insights into the physics of quantum anomalies and the origin of classical solutions (instantons), the notion of parton systems and their evolution in soft and hard hadron interactions, the first theory of neutrino oscillations and conceptual problems of quantization of non-Abelian fields uncovered by him, have left a lasting impact on the theoretical physics of the 21st century. Gribov-80 the fourth in a series of memorial workshops for V N Gribov was organized on the occasion of his 80th birthday in May 2010, at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics. The workshop paid tribute to Gribov's great achievements and brought close colleagues, younger researchers and leading experts together to display the new angles of the Gribov heritage at the new energy frontier opened up by the Large Hadron Collider. The book is a collection of the presentations made at the workshop.

This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vladimir Naumovich Gribov is one of the creators of modern theoretical physics. The concepts and methods that Gribov has developed in the second half of the 20th century became cornerstones of the physics of high energy hadron interactions (relativistic theory of complex angular momenta, a notion of the vacuum pole — Pomeron, effective reggeon field theory), condensed matter physics (critical phenomena), neutrino oscillations, and nuclear physics. His unmatched insights into the nature of the quantum field theory helped to elucidate, in particular, the origin of classical solutions (instantons), quantum anomalies, specific problems in quantization of non-Abelian fields (Gribov anomalies, Gribov horizon), and the role of light quarks in the color confinement phenomenon. The Memorial Workshop devoted to Gribov's 90th birthday was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020; however, this did not deter the collection of many new studies in challenging theoretical physics problems across a broad variety of topics, and shared memories about their colleague, great teacher and friend. The contributions of this memorial volume affirms the everlasting impact of Gribov's scientific heritage upon the physics of the 21st century.

Book Synopsis Symmetries of Maldacena-Wilson Loops from Integrable String Theory by : Hagen Münkler
Download or read book Symmetries of Maldacena-Wilson Loops from Integrable String Theory written by Hagen Münkler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-24 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses hidden symmetries in the Anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) duality. This duality is a modern concept that asserts an exact duality between conformally invariant quantum field theories and string theories in higher dimensional Anti-de Sitter spaces, and in this way provides a completely new tool for the study of strongly coupled quantum field theories. In this setting, the book focuses on the Wilson loop, an important observable in four-dimensional maximally supersymmetric gauge theory. The dual string description using minimal surfaces enables a systematic study of the hidden symmetries of the loop. The book presents major findings, including the discovery of a master symmetry for strings in general symmetric spaces, its relation to the Yangian symmetry algebra and its action on the minimal surfaces appearing in the dual string description of the Wilson loop. Moreover, it clarifies why certain symmetries are not present on the gauge theory side for purely bosonic Wilson loops and, lastly, how the supersymmetrization of the minimal surface problem for type IIB superstrings can be undertaken. As such, it substantially increases our understanding and use of infinite dimensional symmetries occurring in the AdS/CFT correspondence.
Book Synopsis Hadronic Transport Coefficients from Effective Field Theories by : Juan M. Torres-Rincon
Download or read book Hadronic Transport Coefficients from Effective Field Theories written by Juan M. Torres-Rincon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation focuses on the calculation of transport coefficients in the matter created in a relativistic heavy-ion collision after chemical freeze-out. This matter can be well approximated using a pion gas out of equilibrium. We describe the theoretical framework needed to obtain the shear and bulk viscosities, the thermal and electrical conductivities and the flavor diffusion coefficients of a meson gas at low temperatures. To describe the interactions of the degrees of freedom, we use effective field theories with chiral and heavy quark symmetries. We subsequently introduce the unitarization methods in order to obtain a scattering amplitude that satisfies the unitarity condition exactly, then go on to calculate the transport properties of the low-temperature phase of quantum chromodynamics - the hadronic medium - which can be used in hydrodynamic simulations of a relativistic heavy-ion collision and its subsequent evolution. We show that the shear viscosity over entropy density exhibits a minimum in a phase transition by studying this coefficient in atomic Argon (around the liquid-gas phase transition) and in the linear sigma model in the limit of a large number of scalar fields (which presents a chiral phase transition). Finally, we provide an experimental method for estimating the bulk viscosity in relativistic heavy-ion collisions by performing correlations of the fluctuating components of the stress-energy tensor.

This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years neutrino was considered a massless particle. The theory of a two-componentneutrino,whichplayedacrucialroleinthecreationofthetheoryof theweakinteraction, isbasedontheassumptionthattheneutrinomassisequalto zero. We now know that neutrinos have nonzero, small masses. In numerous exp- iments with solar, atmospheric, reactor and accelerator neutrinos a new p- nomenon, neutrino oscillations, was observed. Neutrino oscillations (periodic transitionsbetweendifferent?avorneutrinos? ,? ,? )arepossibleonlyifneutrino e ? ? mass-squareddifferencesaredifferentfromzeroandsmalland?avorneutrinosare “mixed”. The discovery of neutrino oscillations opened a new era in neutrino physics: an era of investigation of neutrino masses, mixing, magnetic moments and other neutrino properties. After the establishment of the Standard Model of the el- troweak interaction at the end of the seventies, the discovery of neutrino masses was the most important discovery in particle physics. Small neutrino masses cannot be explained by the standard Higgs mechanism of mass generation. For their explanation a new mechanism is needed. Thus, small neutrino masses is the ?rst signature in particle physics of a new beyond the Standard Model physics. It took many years of heroic efforts by many physicists to discover n- trino oscillations. After the ?rst period of investigation of neutrino oscillations, manychallengingproblemsremainedunsolved.Oneofthemostimportantisthe problem of the nature of neutrinos with de?nite masses. Are they Dirac n- trinos possessing a conserved lepton number which distinguish neutrinos and antineutrinos or Majorana neutrinos with identical neutrinos and antineutrinos? Many experiments of the next generation and new neutrino facilities are now under preparation and investigation. There is no doubt that exciting results are ahead.
