The account begins when Colonel Gaddafi's tragic assassination is announced, and ends with the narrator of the story, a professor of journalism at Al Fateh University in Tripoli, being murdered. The first chapter describes an evening in Tripoli on February 11, 2011, the Eve of Prophet Mohammed's birthday, and the last chapter details the cold-blooded assassination of Colonel Gaddafi, Libya's ruler for forty-two years, on October 20, 2011. Major characters include Fatima, a beautiful Libyan girl in traditional black dress who always speaks against the dictator's rule, and an old Sufi saint, who predicts the destruction of Libya by NATO forces before he is killed by mercenaries at the end of the book. Book excerpt: A tabloid reporter seeks the truth behind an alien abduction claim made by a woman whose husband disappeared, although the truth may destroy his chances to woo her beautiful daughter… Sometimes, Joe Franchetti hates his job at the National Informer, especially when he’s assigned to cover stories involving aliens from another world. When he is sent to investigate the story of a woman in rural Arkansas who claims aliens abducted her husband, he vows to debunk her story, no matter how much the truth might hurt her attractive daughter. Sandra Billingsley has a problem. Her stepfather is missing, and her mother is the prime suspect in his disappearance. In addition to protecting her eccentric mother from a possible murder investigation, now she must contend with a national tabloid reporter set on exposing her mother as a murderess or a madwoman. While the investigation turns up more suspects and the local townspeople scheme to profit from the “alien invasion,” Joe and Sandra work together to unravel the mystery, knowing their attraction is doomed to end in pain when the truth is revealed.
Download or read book Lucid Dreaming written by Celia Green and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucid dreams are dreams in which a person becomes aware that they are dreaming. They are different from ordinary dreams, not just because of the dreamer's awareness that they are dreaming, but because lucid dreams are often strikingly realistic and may be emotionally charged to the point of elation. Celia Green and Charles McCreery have written a unique introduction to lucid dreams that will appeal to the specialist and general reader alike. The authors explore the experience of lucid dreaming, relate it to other experiences such as out-of-the-body experiences (to which they see it as closely related) and apparitions, and look at how lucid dreams can be induced and controlled. They explore their use for therapeutic purposes such as counteracting nightmares. Their study is illustrated throughout with many case histories.

Book Synopsis A World of My Own by : Graham Greene
Download or read book A World of My Own written by Graham Greene and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British author shares the “strange . . . inner layers of his playful, guilty imagination” in this glimpse into a brilliant novelist’s subconscious (The New York Times). Culled from nearly eight hundred pages of the author’s “dream diaries” kept between 1965 and 1989, this singular journal reveals “the feverish inner life of an intensely private man, providing an uncanny mirror-image of [his] novelistic obsessions, insecurities, and moral preoccupations” (Publishers Weekly). In what Greene calls My Own World—as opposed to the Common World of shared reality—he accompanies Henry James on a disagreeable riverboat trip to Bogota, is caught in a guerilla crossfire with Evelyn Waugh and W. H. Auden, strolls in the Vatican garden with Pope John Paul II who’s doling out Perugina chocolates like hosts, offers refuge to a suicidal Charlie Chaplin, and stages a disastrous play in blank verse for Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. He also shares his headspace with Goebbels, Castro, Cocteau, Queen Elizabeth, D. H. Lawrence, and talking kittens. And the landscape is just as wide: from Nazi Germany to Haiti to West Africa to Bethlehem 1 AD and to Sweden where he seeks treatment for leprosy. Greene is a criminal, spy, lover, assassin, witness, and writer. Encompassing life, death, war, feuds, and career, and alternately absurdist, frightening, funny, and revealing, these fertile imaginings—many of which found their way into Greene’s fiction—comprise nothing less than “an alternate autobiography . . . a uniquely candid self-portrait” of one of the giants of English literature (Kirkus Reviews).
Download or read book Hang Time written by Bob Greene and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 1993-12-15 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bob Greene shows us a side of Michael Jordan that doesn't make the sports page...the inside. Journalist and bestselling author Bob Greene stepped into Michael Jordan's world just as Jordan was reaching the apex of his talent and his fame. With Greene, Jordan let down his guard. In an extraordinary book that transcends sports biography, Greene takes the reader along with Jordan over two seasons with the Chicago Bulls, during glorious championship surges and trying personal moments. With rare insight, Greene reveals the person inside the icon: a man who makes millions but cannot go for a quiet walk around the block without getting mobbed, a man who competes ferociously on the court, but who performs some of his most remarkable and unexpected feats away from the limelight. Drawn from inside Michael Jordan's daily life, rich with the sound of Jordan's own voice, Hang Time is a startlingly candid and intimate story of time spent with a champion, and of the growing friendship between two men.
Book Synopsis Endless Dreams and Time-based Streams by : Renée Green
Download or read book Endless Dreams and Time-based Streams written by Renée Green and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term "time-based art" is ostensibly a well-known construct by this point, encompassing video, audio and performance work but not textiles or other objects. Yet Renée Green, whose complex installation art has long troubled easy oppositions such as public/ private, center/margin, and history/ fiction, complicates the idea of time-based art as well, recycling the otherwise "static" elements in her vibrant multimedia environments from year to year, thus mobilizing a more expansive notion of the "time-based" to situate her practice in history. Conceived for Green's 2010 exhibition at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, this volume appraises the intellectual complexity of Green's ever-evolving art.
