It’s upsetting, but what else can be done? The Wilson sisters decide something could be done. They saw future champions behind the fiery eyes and beneath the shaggy coats. Download or read book War Horses written by Jill Mather and published by Boolarong Press. This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This remarkable but true collection has been gleaned from a large variety of World War 1 sources. It records the role animals played in environments which were completely alien to them. For all the animals that served us so well, only a handful left their mark in history. This book not only commemorates the role our Australian and New Zealand horses played in a war which saw eight million animals perish in the bloodiest of battles, but preserves this collection of stories to be re-told almost one hundred years later. Here the author presents the deeds of the unknown, along side the well-known Waler horses, donkeys, mules and dogs. They were all heroes. This is a book you won’t be able to put down and in the reading you will gain a great compassion for these brave animals.

Book Synopsis Straight from the Horse's Ass by : Lee Hughes
Download or read book Straight from the Horse's Ass written by Lee Hughes and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2016-02-01 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Kiwi cowboy and his stubborn horse (nicknamed ‘Goddammityou-sonavabitch’) ride through America. Here’s how an ‘averagely dumb city-slicker’ looking for something to do on his summer holiday saw Dances With Wolves and was seduced by the lure of the West. Together with a small stubborn horse rescued from a career in the Belgian sausage industry, he travelled 3500 miles down the Rocky Mountains from Canada to Mexico. When Lee Hughes began, he didn’t know how to ride, and his horse, Spice (also known by his Indian name of ‘Goddammityou-sonavabitch’), wasn’t giving lessons either. Their relationship wasn’t exactly a partnership, more of an armed truce, but nevertheless they crossed rivers and deserts, mountains and plains, dodged buffalo and bears, moose and mountain lions, met policemen and preachers, cowboys and Indians, Democrats and all manner of respectable folk as well. They made it to Mexico only nine months late. Bones were broken, six-guns roared in anger and quicksands were explored the hard way. There were feasts, famines and some world-class drinking. Good deeds were done and dark ones concealed. And a good horse died. Around wintertime Lee and Spice bluffed their way on to a ranch and played at being a cowboy and a cowpony. 7000 cattle went along with the joke until summer, and then they headed south again, saddlebags bulging with rolled oats, baked beans and Cheez Whiz. What started out as just a summer holiday, grew until it filled a year with excitement and laughter, panic and peril and, ultimately, became this ‘mostly true story without too many lies or bits left out’.

Download or read book Wild Horses of the Summer Sun written by Tory Bilski and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wondrous story of adventure and friendship featuring a group of women who ride Icelandic horses. "Blame it or praise it, there is no denying the wild horse in us." - Virgina Woolf Each June, Tory Bilski meets up with fellow women travelers in Reykjavik where they head to northern Iceland, near the Greenland Sea. They escape their ordinary lives to live an extraordinary one at a horse farm perched at the edge of the world. If only for a short while. When they first came to Thingeyar, these women were strangers to one another. The only thing they had in common was their passion for Icelandic horses. However, over the years, their relationships with each other deepens, growing older together and keeping each other young. Combining the self-discovery of Eat, Pray, Love, the sense of place of Under the Tuscan Sun, and the danger of Wild, Wild Horses of the Summer Sun revels in Tory's quest for the "wild" inside her. These women leave behind the usual troubles at home: illnesses, aging parents, troubled teenagers, financial worries and embrace their desire for adventure. Buoyed by their friendships with each other and their growing attachments and bonds with the otherworldly horses they ride, the warmth of Thingeyrar's midnight sun carries these women through the rest of the year's trials and travails. Filled with adventure and fresh humor, as well as an incredible portrait of Iceland and its remarkable equines, Wild Horses of the Summer Sun will enthrall and delight not just horse lovers, but those of us who yearn for a little more wild in everyday life.
