Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Los Angeles Times Book Prizes Finalist Longlisted for the 2024 Aspen Words Literary Prize Named a Best of the Year Book by NPR Crackling with energy and intelligence, this debut is the "smart, subversive, funny, heartbreaking" (Kamila Shamsie) story of an exceptional teenager coming of age in the shadow of colonialism and communal violence in Nigeria. Andrew Aziza is an unusually smart fifteen-year-old in Kontagora, Nigeria. He lives with his fiercely protective mother, Gloria, and fantasizes obsessively about white girls-especially blondes. When he's not in church, at school, or hanging about town with his droogs wishing to become one of “Africa's first superheroes,” he's contemplating the larger questions with his teacher Zahrah and his equally brilliant friend Fatima, a Hausa-Fulani girl who has feelings for him. Together they discuss mathematical theorems, Black power, and what Andy has deemed the Curse of Africa. Sure enough, the reluctantly nicknamed Andy Africa soon falls hopelessly and inappropriately in love with the first white girl he lays eyes on: Eileen. But at the church party held to celebrate her arrival, multiple crises loom. An unfamiliar man there claims, despite his mother's denials, to be Andy's father, and an anti-Christian mob has gathered, headed for the church. In the ensuing havoc and its aftermath, Andy is forced to reckon with his identity and desires and determine how to live on the so-called Cursed Continent. The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa announces a dazzlingly unique literary voice. Crackling with energy, this tragicomic novel provides a stunning lens into contemporary African life, the complicity of the West, and the impossible challenges of growing up in a turbulent world.

This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Question: What does Mau Mau mean? Answer: The name "Mau Mau" was never used by the Kikuyu themselves, and did not exist in their language. In general, they called themselves the "Land Freedom Army," or the "Freedom Struggle Association." It was used as part of a psychological operations campaign by the British in an attempt to demonize the Kikuyu people, make them less than human, and easier to hate and kill. Some Kikuyu Elders say that the name "Mau Mau" was really "Uma Uma" ("out out - to get out"), a code word based on a secret-language game the Kikuyu boys played at the time of their circumcision. General China, a former Mau Mau leader explained that the native word for "Oath" is "Muma," but because of its pronunciation the Europeans wrote it as "Mau Mau." The leader of the movement, Dedan Kimathi, was opposed to the use of the term Mau Mau to describe the guerrillas. He called them The Kenya Land and Freedom Army (KLFA).

Book Synopsis LEADERSHIP GENETIC ENGINEERING FORMULA: by : AGOLA AUMA-OSOLO
Download or read book LEADERSHIP GENETIC ENGINEERING FORMULA: written by AGOLA AUMA-OSOLO and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the omega of volume 1 titled Why Leaders Fail and Plunge the Innocent into a Sea of Agonies; hence, its justified designation as volume 2. Its purpose is to complete the marathon research expedition commenced by volume 1 (alfa) to search for the mysteries surrounding and being responsible for man's chronic failure in the art of leadership, which has consequently always plunged the innocent under a failed leader into a sea of various acute agonies throughout all generations. In this regard, this volume is an etiology and prognosis of leadership failure epidemic that has evaded recognition of every past research effort to unlock and paralyze those mysteries responsible for its existence. Using this double-edged methodology and burning ambition, the volume systematically and vigorously synthesizes the root causes of this virus into a coherent body of knowledge that has, in the end, led to formulation of a leadership genetic engineering formula viz: elite and grass root conflict vaccination, able to provide humanity with an enabling environment of a hybrid culture requisite for good governance, democracy, and prosperity for all. This formula is a function of the discovery of a similar formula formulated and used by the ancient Egyptian people (7000-5000 BC), which enabled them to develop into an extraordinary hybrid culture and good leadership that, in turn, led them into a nation of immense prosperity, surpassing all other nations of their generation in Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. Hence, the unique significance of the research efforts contained in this volume 2 in its capacity as a long-lived breakthrough for social sciences--and political science, in particular--against the scourge of bad leadership to humanity. And hence, its justification as an omega of this marathon research expedition.
