Book excerpt: Books about injury prevention tend to explain only the principles and leave it to the practitioner to apply them in the course of their everyday interactions. Thus there is a large gap, between "what works in principle" and "how to make it work in practice." The purpose of this book is to translate the principles of injury prevention to the specific circumstances that community workers face. The GRIP Guide contains eight modules. The first module gives an overview of the principles of injury prevention and safety promotion. Modules two through six describe how to address the five categories / types of injuries (burns, falls, drowning, transport injuries, poisoning). Module seven provides a generic approach that covers other unintentional injuries and module eight deals with the response to intentional injuries (violence). This guide takes the form of a series of exercises that reader can use when working with community members to promote community participation and intersectoral collaboration as a means of achieving a safe environment.

Book Synopsis The Mental Impact of Sports Injury by : Carly D. McKay
Download or read book The Mental Impact of Sports Injury written by Carly D. McKay and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much is known about the physical strain that athletes’ bodies are subjected to and the dangerous aspects of competition immediately spring to mind. But why do athletes train the way they do, and why do they push the limits? Why do some recover well from injury while others struggle? Despite decades of medical and sport science research, a piece has been missing from this picture. Until recently, the role of psychological factors in risk and rehabilitation has been poorly understood. Thankfully, there is increasing awareness of just how crucial these factors can be for predicting injury, improving recovery, developing prevention strategies, and supporting athletes’ long-term health. Yet, research in this area is still in its infancy and it can be difficult to synthesize an ever-growing body of knowledge into practical injury management approaches. Using analogies from everyday life, The Mental Impact of Sports Injury bridges the gap between academic research and practical settings in an informative, yet easy to follow guide to the psychology of sports injury. Addressing risk, rehabilitation, and prevention, it outlines key considerations for researchers and practitioners across all levels of sport. Alongside the fundamentals of injury psychology, emerging areas of importance are also discussed, including training load monitoring and the technological advances that are shaping modern sport medicine. Targeted examples highlight the challenges of preventing and managing injury in grassroots, elite, and professional contexts, with chapters dedicated to the under-served communities of youth and Para sport athletes. Stepping away from traditional texts, this unique book presents the landmark literature, major concepts, and athlete insights into sports injury psychology from a totally new perspective.

Book Synopsis World Report on Child Injury Prevention by : M. M. Peden
Download or read book World Report on Child Injury Prevention written by M. M. Peden and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2008 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child injuries are largely absent from child survival initiatives presently on the global agenda. Through this report, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund and many partners have set out to elevate child injury to a priority for the global public health and development communities. It should be seen as a complement to the UN Secretary-General's study on violence against children released in late 2006 (that report addressed violence-related or intentional injuries). Both reports suggest that child injury and violence prevention programs need to be integrated into child survival and other broad strategies focused on improving the lives of children. Evidence demonstrates the dramatic successes in child injury prevention in countries which have made a concerted effort. These results make a case for increasing investments in human resources and institutional capacities. Implementing proven interventions could save more than a thousand children's lives a day.--p. vii.
