She knew that herbs and other plant products, were amazingly efficient, and effective in getting rid of minor ailments, which would be the lot and portion of her large family. That is why she used all those nostrums, infusions, decoctions, and other herbal products which had been passed on to her by her grandma and so on down the ages. So here is another collection of grandma’s natural remedies and ancient herbal recipes to keep you healthy, as well as beautiful. All these products are easily available right in your garden or in your kitchen. Best of all, they have no aftereffects and they have no side effects. That is because all these products are completely hundred percent natural. Why are so many people going back to natural remedies and ancient herbal recipes, in the 21st century? That is because they have found that chemical-based drugs and medicines have a short-term effect. They may also come accompanied with toxic effects, and side effects. So you are going to find yourself suffering from these long-term aftereffects. However, that is definitely not the case when you are taking natural remedies, which have been made with hundred percent natural products. And that is what grandma did. She gathered all the natural products available in her garden, or easily available in the woods, when she went rambling out gathering herbs, and brought them home. These were then used, to cure a number of ailments. Some of them seem rather drastic, but you need to remember that grandma was more of an experimenter. She knew that there was one product in these herbal combinations which did all the magic. The rest were just “filling.”

Not only was this bad for our general health, because there could be a side effect due to any possible residue of chemicals which had not been washed away during the last rinsing. This is why this collection of grandma’s household hints, is going to be very useful for all those people who prefer natural or easily available remedies, and solutions available right there in the kitchen or gardens. Apart from your home and kitchen, you are going to find long forgotten hints, which were used by your and my grandma to get rid of stains, preserve clothes from pests, and other tips, which may sound very amusing and surprising in this day and age. But you should remember that grandma was brought up in times when she had to watch every penny of grandpa’s limited income and make it stretch until it screeched. That is why, she was more prone to using her own natural good sense, inborn shrewdness, or knowledge passed to her from her own grandmother, friends, relatives, and from her neighbors too. In fact, they used to meet once in a while, and exchange household tips, which may have gone something like this “Oh, Mrs…., I have found it so easy to remove stains from my hands, by just rubbing a lemon over them, and I prevent chapping by drying my hands after I have done the washing and then rubbing a pinch of starch all over the surface, ”all the while waving those same unchapped stainless hands in the air.

That is why, she used her experience and knowledge, to make sure that she learned all the easiest shortcuts, which would prevent her from throwing away items which were damaged, including clothes, food and other items around the house and garden. Consider this damage control done by grandma. Grandma was the first recycler. Dresses were handed down from child to child, and if there was no child of that particular age, and that dress size, it was handed over to another member of the family where the dress could be utilized through more years of wear and tear. After the dress was torn to nearly rags and tatters, she used the cloth for stuffing cushions and pillows or for patching other dresses. This may sound extremely laughable to our world, where there is plenty, and we can throw away or just give away things, when we think they are getting old, but these were the ways in which household managers – the females – were brought up in the East and the West down the centuries. Waste not want not, was their motto. So enjoy reading through these collected damage control tips, and techniques, which are going to help you keep healthy, fit, your house pest free and other techniques, all brought to you down the ages and time-tested. Let us start with the kitchen. The maximum number of accident, sickness at home and the kitchen somehow seems to be the gunpoint. Culinary mishaps take place all the time, there. But when they do, there should be no need to panic. There is a solution to every problem, if you do not fall into attitudes of hysteria and shock at every little disaster. And I know a few men and women who enjoy what is known in the 20th century as “creating.” So instead of acting like a prima donna Cordon Bleu chef, you can follow something my grandmother said, “there are absolutely no problems, there are only imaginative solutions.” Especially in matters of these things happening when you are entertaining. How to Fix Things in the Kitchen?

Potato Salad Potato Salad Dressing Traditional Mayonnaise Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Knowing what to cook was as important as knowing how to cook, for grandma. She also learned how to make the best of whatever was in front of her, from her grandmother, and so on for centuries. Millenniums ago, her ancestors when gathering in the woods for herbs and vegetables while the menfolk of the family trapped and hunted for meat, game and anything else edible and delicious. It was then grandma’s many times great-grandmother’s job to make all these ingredients into something delicious and healthy as well as palatable and nourishing. So she used her instinct and her creativity to make delicacies with the ingredients available at hand. Although science-fiction already has stories about scientists making complete little nutritional packages in the shape of pills that are going to take the shape of food in the coming centuries, we are very fortunate that we do not have to face that sort of blandness in our meals today. We still have the good fortune of going to the nearest market or the nearest organic garden and collecting fresh greens, as well as herbs. We have plenty of fresh meat at hand. And best of all, we have all the ingredients to make good wholesome food. We only hope, judging by the pleasure most of us get from eating, the preparation, cooking and serving of this nutritious food is going to be a human activity which is going to be around for a long time. But most of us cannot afford to have some of the more exotic ingredients, of which we dream. Either they are not available to us in our city. Or perhaps they are beyond our budget. Unfortunately, for a large percentage of people all over the world, budget constraints are the reason why they have to make do with makeshift meals instead of eating what nature intended for them – good wholesome, natural ingredients. Grandma was a frugal person. She lived in a time when the dollars earned by grandpa had to be stretched in such a manner that the whole family could be fed and fed well. Times changed and times of prosperity came along, and the eating habits of the whole family changed. Instead of two or three healthy meals in a day, there was food aplenty and the whole family could now afford to eat whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and in large quantities. This naturally gave rise to problems including obesity. Also, by not regulating the meal intake as well as the quality of the meals, the quality of the general health of grandma’s children deteriorated as time went by. However, the circle of financial constraints has gone and come around again and the time for tightening belts and looking at our budgets has become the top priority. A majority of us all over the world again are looking for ways and means in which we can get the proper nutrition in the form of proteins, vitamins, minerals and energy, which our bodies required to keep functioning in a healthy manner.

How Boring! Conclusion Author Bio Introduction In this fourth volume of grandma’s ancient natural remedies and herbal recipes, you are going to get a collection of recipes, in which grandmother used fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices to cure her family and also the neighbors around her. These remedies were given to her down the ages from our grandmother, and so on. Many of these remedies have been lost in the mists of time, but there were still some people in ancient times who wrote these remedies down in books. In 800 BC, Homer praised the knowledge of ancient Egyptians, who were extremely skilled in noninvasive surgery, and treatment of ailments. Ancient well-known Greek and Roman medicine men like Galen and Hippocrates gained plenty of their knowledge studying in the University of Amenhotep and the great and glorious physician Lucanus – known in Biblical history as Saint Luke – studied under Greek and Egyptian physicians. There were plenty of physicians who believe in spells, and considered that disease was caused by evil demons. Tibetan and other Eastern medicine still uses incantations to get rid of demons which have possessed a human or an animal body, thus causing it to get sick. In Indian and Chinese medicine, the ancient doctors had a good knowledge of the human anatomy. More than 4000 years ago, doctors in India were practicing plastic surgery, by making up noses from flaps of skin taken from other parts of the body. In the same manner, Chinese doctors knew all about blood circulation and acupuncture. In fact, Chinese medicine can be considered to be one of the most ancient, scientific and knowledgeable science ever known to mankind in today’s world. It was well documented, as was Egyptian medicine, of which many ancient priceless papyri have been found. Many of these ancient doctors knew about cause and effect, even though the belief of disease causing demons possessing a body still lingers on in many parts of the East. People are also under the impression that diseases are under the control and power of gods and goddesses who have to be placated so that they do not send an epidemic in the coming rainy season. Egypt, China, Greece, Mesopotamia, and India were fertile lands. That is why there was absolutely no reason why the people living here could not have plenty of healthy food to eat. Grains, fruit, vegetables, cereals, spices, nuts, and other natural health giving food were in abundance. This is why the ancients lived so long. Because of this healthy natural diet, and most of the people living outdoors, ailments and illnesses were few. That is why people of the 21st century are coming back to nature and looking for natural remedies based on fruit and vegetables, which are going to cure them of diseases and ailments. Chemical-based drugs may heal you very well on a short-term basis, but they are going to have an everlasting long-term effect on your body. That is because they are made up of chemicals, which do not suit the bio-physiological functioning system of your body. On the other hand, fruits and vegetables as well as herbs are going to heal your body naturally, while making sure that you do not suffer from any sort of side effects. This is the reason why grandma ‘s collected herbal lore and knowledge is all about the wonderful medical and beauty enhancing benefits of different herbs, spices, fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Book excerpt: Grandma’s Natural Remedies and Ancient Herbal Beauty Recipes Table of Contents Introduction Monday’s Child Is Fair of Face The Healing Power of Infused Oil Remedies for winter- Chilblains Sciatica Stiff Joints… Quit your Bellyachin’! Simple Perfumed Ointments Natural Cures For Summer Ailments Appendix Introduction A couple of years ago, somebody asked me what made me so interested in herbal remedies and natural cures as well as natural beauty recipes? That is when I told him that the wisdom of the ancients had not been garnered together, and would be lost as the generations forgot about asking their old wise ancestors, the Lore which they knew. So I was seven years old, when I decided to myself that I needed to know everything about what my grandmother had learned from her grandmother. And I started writing those ancient natural remedies and beauty recipes down. More than three decades later, I started writing books on natural remedies and natural herbal recipes, which I collected, whenever I went around the countryside. People used to go around looking at the places to visit; I used to go around asking for the oldies of the village who would give me herbal remedies and recipes. In around 30 years, I collected thousands of these recipes, which were and are still being used by villagers and townsfolk and which have been given to them down the ages. And they work, because all the ingredients are natural. And also, the genetic makeup of hard-working people living in an unpolluted atmosphere helped in keeping them healthy. So they did not have to go running to a doctor whenever they caught a sniffle. They knew the easiest herbal tisane in which would put them straight in a couple of days. Now, I spent my childhood and youth in jungles as well as in remote areas in all corners of the compass, where nobody believed in medicines, – and sometimes medical access for serious cases was able only through air lifting by a helicopter – but everybody believed in the power of nature and her curative properties. Also, plenty of exercise, a good and healthy diet and grandma’s natural remedies kept us healthy and happy. And the funny thing is that the only times we got sick with measles, mumps, and chickenpox was when we came down from the mountains to the cities and the towns during our annual vacations. The moment we got back into the healthy atmosphere of the mountains, with plenty of fresh air, plenty of fruit and drink and plenty of opportunities to create lots of childish mischief and mayhem, we were content and happy children again. We never knew that there were medicines which you needed to pop to keep healthy. Is not this the natural trend of the 21st century “civilized” person? You have lost your faith in natural remedies to keep you healthy. You would rather buy something expensive, which is being endorsed by your favorite star. I am certain she never uses that medicine herself, because it is made up of chemicals. These chemicals are going to have a harmful after effect on your body. The first thing you do when you wake up is take some vitamins with your breakfast. After that, you take some vitamins or pills to pep you up. Then you take the medicines prescribed to you by a doctor. Count the times you take some sort of medicine in the shape of a pill, vitamin, and drug throughout the day. And then can you believe someone who has not been to see a doctor for the last 30 years? There are plenty of octogenarians in our area who believe in natural remedies and good diets to keep them healthy. They are all grandpas and grandmas. They do not coddle themselves with pills and medicines.

Cod Liver Treatment Conclusion Author Bio Introduction Vegetables are such an integral part of our daily lives, that we really do not bother much about their natural benefits and value. All we know is that they are those greens which we had to eat when we were children, because mommy said so, and she was bigger than us. And she was not a good cook. And also, she made every vegetable dish taste so boring, so blah and so bland, that one promised oneself that one would never eat it, when one grew up. That is the reason why so many of us grow up with an anti-vegetable subconscious feeling. But did you know that these green and leafy vegetables are the reasons why you kept so healthy, so energetic, and so bouncing when you were a kid. They were the natural mineral resources, which provided you with vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients, which help your muscles grow healthy, your skin glow and made you look so bright eyed and bushy tailed. And then you grew up and stopped eating vegetables. Instead, you began eating and other high-protein diet, without any greens or yellows or reds , which were harvested from plants/vines/herbs or shrubs. And that made your body deficient in all the essential vitamins. It also made you less healthy than what you were when you were a kid. And you did not get to know it. So here are some good reasons why you should eat plant produce, especially when they are green and leafy. Fibrous, leafy and green vegetables, fresh from the farm are, of course, the pride and joy of every health conscious and proud cook. If the proportions of these vegetables are increased in your daily diet, you are going to lessen your intake of carbohydrates, starch, and grain. This is going to benefit you and the general state of your health in the long run. It also means that you will never suffer from constipation. Nothing can take the place of cereals and grains in your daily diet in the same manner, vegetables have their own invaluable and irreplaceable place in the diet groups which make up your daily meals. The benefits of vegetables eaten raw, or cooked, then means that you are going to have a tasty meal, with natural digestive products being added to your system. Your blood circulation is going to get invigorated and your digestive system is going to get rid of any small ailments brought about by eating a starchy, fatty and high-protein high carbohydrate diet. Vegetables are amazing toxin eliminators. So if you are thinking of detoxifying your body with any star – endorsed detoxifying products, think again. Try increasing the amounts of vegetables in your diet. The best thing about fibrous vegetables is that it adds the amount of bulk to the fecal material so that it can be eliminated during the regular bowel movements every day. This keeps your system healthy. It also keeps your skin glowing, and you energetic. That is because there are no toxins accumulating in your body and weakening your system.

That was a little step for her, but it was a giant step for mankind. Soon people began to preserve food in stoneware jars. The principle of preserving these fruit/food items depended firstly upon the destruction by need of all the mold and bacteria in the air, fruit, or water. As technological development and experimental sciences began to develop in ancient civilizations, they discovered how to make glass containers and bottles more than 5000 years ago. Naturally, at the same time, the cook in the kitchen was experimenting on food stuffs. It was only by trial and error that she learned that if she kept items of food in a moist atmosphere, it would soon grow moldy and perish real fast. Also, she learned that the exclusion of air during the sealing off the bottles prevented this mold from growing on the surface of the food. Along with that, she found out that salt, vinegar, wine and oil were extremely useful mediums in which she could preserve food, and that is how the art of been a preserving food in the shape of jams, jellies, pickles and chutneys came into existence. So this art has come down to us through the ages, and that is why many families have closely guarded secret recipes for pickling or preserving food. And that is when our grannies told us in grave tones – “remember, children, the containers in which you put this jam should be totally sealed really properly. That is how you are going to keep it for a long time.” Natural vinegar and natural oil was used as an important medium since ancient times to preserve fruit, pickles and other natural food items. Along with that, salt and sugar were used as preservatives.

How did our ancestors manage spans of longevity, when they were not influenced by wars and disease? Well, the answer is very clear. They were extremely careful about their diet. The ancient wise men advocated a diet of fruit and vegetables, fresh from the trees, and less of high-protein, in the shape of animals, fish and game. Ordinary bread was the easiest way in which man got his quota of cereals every day. This whole wheat or grain bread was cooked on a grill and eaten with vegetables and meat dishes. However, as time went by, man began changing his dietary habits. He started domesticating animals, which included poultry, cattle and other animals from where he could get protein supplements in the shape of meat. And so as time went by, he began concentrating more on meat dishes to add variety to his food, rather than plant products. So as centuries went by, this change in diet slowly and steadily began to have an adverse effect on his health. He started eating less vegetables and fruit, and started concentrating more on protein from animal products. And so his system and physiology began to change accordingly. Nature tried its best to incorporate this change in diet into his natural system. If man had it his way, he would subsist only on meat with less of fruit and vegetables. However, the wise men were still intelligent enough to make man understand that he needed a natural balance of healthy carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and other essential nutrients, which could not be obtained by eating just a one-sided diet concentrating on just one particular food group. And so they began to tell people more about how necessary it was to eat healthy, beneficial healthy giving foods. These needed to be eaten every day, so that the body could function normally and properly to keep it in proper healthy running condition. Scarcity of these healthy giving foods would give rise to ailments which would weaken the body. Luckily, man was practical enough to understand the wisdom of such knowledge. And that is why down the millenniums we are still eating fruit and vegetables, herbs and spices. You may say that you know how to choose, cook and preserve a number of foods given in this book. But there are still some helpful tips, which are going to come in useful, when preparing healthy meals for your family. Naturally the tips are time tested! So here are some healthy giving and healing foods, which you need to have in your daily diet, to keep you bright eyed and bushy tailed. And naturally, nuts come in this category. Some of these foods are vegetarian and some of them are non-vegetarian. So it depends upon your eating habits, which of them you incorporate in your daily diet. But remember that no food can be compensated with another food. Every single food item in the world has its own unique properties. So if you think that eating lots of honey instead of beetroot sugar is going to keep you healthy, no, that cannot be done, and vice versa.
