Book excerpt: Hilarious adventures abound as Granny comes to live with her grandson and his parents. It is rarely an easy transition when aging parents and grandparents find they need to live with their children, and Angry Granny is no exception. But, on top of Granny's declining memory, she has lost her filter. So, be prepared because even though her grandson isn't used to hearing curse words Angry Granny is about to change that as she regularly let's the a-word fly. It's cute. It's funny. And, it's touching as the experience of having Angry Granny in the house will take you from laughing to saying "oh my" and right back to giggling again. Rob Alex and Boegley Alex co-wrote Angry Granny, but it all started when Daddy (Rob) started telling Angry Granny bedtime stories to Boegley. The laughter and giggles that poured forth from the bedroom could be heard all the way downstairs. After a few weeks and a long list of Angry Granny adventures, this father-son duo decided to share their knee slapping and sometimes shocking stories with the world. Get ready because these two will take you on quite a journey alongside Angry Granny, and they just may share more of Granny's adventures as time goes by.

Book excerpt: Christian is my grandson and his daddy left home when he was 3 years old. He didn't understand why and became very angry and mad. He also felt betrayed and lonely. He found he could not control his temper and was often sad. One day I sat Christian down and said, "I understand you are angry, but you need to stop hitting and kicking things." Christian said, "I am not angry Granny: I am mad." I started telling him stories, using pictures, about a little boy that was angry and together Christian and I wrote this book. Whenever Christian gets mad, he and I or his Mommy talk about it. Christian says "I need my mad book because it will make me feel better." He takes his book with him everywhere. This book teaches children that it is ok to be mad because everyone gets mad. Through these stories children and adults can learn ways to effectively process their anger. I also found a way to show Christian how to act out his anger and what is appropriate behavior and that there are consequences to every action. Christian's favorite story is "The Grocery Store." He loves to get a cookie when we go to the store because it makes him happy. What makes you happy? When you read this book, you can pick the story that makes you happy. You should carry this book everywhere you go so if you get mad or sad you can read a story to make you feel better. I would like to dedicate this book to Christian because I couldn't have done it without him.

Book excerpt: For fans of Patricia Cornwell, Tana French, and Lisa Gardner comes a razor-sharp novel of suspense featuring Detective Nan Vining—a single mother whose worlds collide when her teenage daughter stumbles upon a grisly double homicide. When she gets the call, Nan Vining responds as a mother first and a detective second. Her daughter, Emily, has made a gruesome discovery in a secluded section of a Pasadena park: a pretty, popular young teacher from Emily’s high school and a bright yet troubled transfer student—both dead and bloody in a copse of trees. But the crime scene isn’t the only thing that seems off to Detective Vining. There’s also the cocky classmate who was with Emily in the park—the boyfriend she never knew about. What else doesn’t she know about her daughter? As she attempts to channel both her maternal and investigative instincts into one single point of focus, Vining’s superiors at the Pasadena Police Department are moving at lightning speed. Before the evidence has even been processed, the case is closed as a clear-cut murder/suicide: a disturbed teenager murders his teacher, then takes his own life. Vining doesn’t buy it. Now she’s chasing dangerous, powerful people with secrets they would kill for—and taking them down means risking her own flesh and blood. Praise for Killing Secrets “Killing Secrets is diabolically good, a top-notch murder mystery.
