Book excerpt: During a time long ago, Emily and her brother, Jacob, live a simple life with their parents in a Christian home complete with a big cook stove and where every Monday is wash day. Even better yet, they live near their grandparents. When Emily and Jacob are not helping their father in the fields, they love setting off down the well-worn path to visit their grandpa-pa and Grandma Allie. Emily and Jacob love the entertaining stories their grandfather tells them about his youth. The children are particularly fond of one of the stories he tells more than others—the tale about the Haydoodle Man. While they wonder aloud if their grandpa-pa is really the old-timer, their grandfather is determined not to respond to their never-ending questions. But when a stray dog puts their family in a terrible dilemma, will they finally learn their grandpa-pa’s secret? In this historical juvenile novel, two siblings entertained by their grandpa-pa’s fascinating tales of days gone-by wonder if he is harboring a secret about his true identity.

These memories are triggered by sight or sound as they travel along mountain roads and through the ridges of an old man’s memories. Colton and his Pop use an old navy-blue Jeep as their time machine to travel eight decades back in time where a sight or sound triggers a memory from an ole man’s past. Step back in time as Pop, “The Story Man” shares the history of a time long gone. Listen to stories of adventures, experiences, and events from decades long ago as a grandpa shares them with his grandson. These stories are of a way of life that no longer exist, stories about home and family, stories that teach life lessons, stories that reveal the values and principles that are so desperately needed in the world today. These memories are of a time when life was simple, less hectic, and more enjoyable. Travel back in time with Colton and Pop, back to a time where friends and family looked after one another, back to a time full of hope and wonder.

Book excerpt: After over 25 years of working with people, and attempting to help them, as a psychotherapist, trainer, and teacher, I have not only walked through the joys and struggles of my own life experiences, and those of family and friends, but I have had the benefits and privilege of learning and living vicariously, while listening to untold hours with literally thousands of clients during their own struggling and searching. I have been encouraged by and privileged to watch the healing, growth, and transcendence from lifes struggles of thousands of people, and I have felt pain and sadness in witnessing the deterioration, resistance and self-destruction of countless others. I have come to believe that the primary determining factor of whether one experiences transcendence or deterioration is a determined willingness to go through the struggles, and to develop an attitude: that looks courageously into the eye of the storm, and says assuredly: You will not break me These poems are captured moments of my own experiences, and reflections on the journeys of others, as we have separately and together enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets, while sometimes weathering the storms in between. May these poems help you better understand yourself and your fellow travelers, and no matter how difficult or deep your own abyss of darkness, may you always find Hope! THE RHYTHM OF LIFE Today could not have been Without yesterday's haunting wind, Blowing by and changing my life, Stirring up realities and other sundry strife. The happenings of this hour Would rightfully have no power, Without the joys and pains of past, Shaping and creating me at last. Had even one conversation been altered, Or one person or event faltered, This moment in which I now breathe Would not now be, as is, conceived. There is a Great Choreographer, somewhere, someplace, Who orchestrates my moves and your every pace, Matching our steps in infinite, perfect time; Then, this dance, once confusing starts to rhyme...
