Book Synopsis Restoring Grandfather Clocks by : Eric Smith
Download or read book Restoring Grandfather Clocks written by Eric Smith and published by Robert Hale. This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The grandfather clock, an entirely new kind of furniture, first appeared in the late seventeenth century. From then on, with its long case to protect pendulum and weights, its rugged movement and large, clear indication of time, it has been a success story right up to the present day. Virtually none of these clocks is beyond repair and often the work required is within the scope of inexperienced owners. This is the first full-length book to cover repair and restoration of these attractive and often valuable antiques, including their casework. The first part outlines how to clean and service the clock 'works' and also how to refurbish the dial, while in the second part restoration or casework, both structural repairs and finishing, is considered. The illustrations are of two actual clocks (one eight-day and one thirty-hour) and work proceeding on them. The last part of the book sketches common variations from these particular examples. Armed with this book and appropriate tools (for work on both movement and case), the owner of a dilapidated grandfather clock will be encouraged and given the know-how to restore it to life as a useful and attractive clock and a prized possession."--Wheelers.co.nz.

Download or read book Grandpas Stories written by Rick Steber and published by Bonanza Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-18 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Great-grandfather has witnessed so much change in his life. When he was a boy the horse and buggy was the mode of transportation. He has lived to see aviation progress from a few barnstorming pilots hop-scotching across the country to jet aircraft thundering across the sky. And he was sitting there that day, in front of the television, when men walked on the moon. All the years and hard work have taken their toll but when he is seated in his favorite rocking chair, great-grandchildren scattered at his feet, his eyes sparkle as lively as they must have in his youth. He exuberantly recounts the past, painting vivid pictures of his life on the western frontier as a pioneer, miner, freighter, stage driver, Indian fighter, trapper, homesteader, logger, buckaroo .... The story over, he waits, and then a small voice implores, 'Grandpa, tell us another story, please.' Grandpa grins, 'Well, all right. Once a long, looong, looooong time ago....'

Book excerpt: High school juniors Tosh, Chani, Garrison, and Tucker are put together for a school project. Unlikely acquaintances with vast differences, they struggle to agree on their project when an old, seemingly normal grandfather clock opens its door and leads the teens into an unknown land where Unicorns make the laws and Sorcerers use lightning. With time to kill and no way home, the four classmates travel around this new world called Chyria and meet a variety of people: a charming young Knight named Jehan; Maverick, a Fairy who sparkles in more way than one; a conceited Merman called Marsh; Jehan's cautious friend, Ansiau, and many more, including a few Unicorns. Upon meeting these new people, the kids get sucked into solving the problem behind a mysterious string of kidnappings, landing them in a situation involved with a spike-covered dragon, a flood, cages, and some very angry creatures. Along the way, they discover more about the hidden world, and themselves, learning they are not who they think they are.

Download or read book The Musings of Grandfather Clock written by Michael D. Carothers and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grandfather Clock’s Purpose These poems are not to evangelize but to show that there is God. He wants us to be his freely and without reservation. But that takes time and experience. Not by my experience but yours. The human experience will draw us closer or away from the possibility that there is God. Paul of Tarsus states in the book of Romans, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so they are without excuse.” What is it that there is no understanding of his existence for many? It is not nature, but man’s preference. God has principle. His principle is that we don’t want and ignore. He rubs us the wrong way. There is a summary on “Principle or Preference” at the beginning of the book to consider. There is a war. The war has manifested itself with man warring against man. There is also a war of man against God. We want to go our own way free of God. Our world is chaotic and disturbed for countless reasons. What has happened to the song in our heart free of worry and anxiety? Relationship is the key. A relationship between you and God and not between you, someone else, and God. Oh! To sing and whistle again. It can happen through peace with God. The Musings of Grandfather Clock show God is love and not religious. Man is religious. We place him in our realm of purpose, enslaving the hearts and minds of men. God is love, but on his terms. These poems are meant to trigger poetic statements of God, social issues, and humor.
