Book Synopsis Consuming Knowledge: Studying Knowledge Use in Leisure and Work Activities by : Steven D. Silver
Download or read book Consuming Knowledge: Studying Knowledge Use in Leisure and Work Activities written by Steven D. Silver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is difficult to overstate the importance of personal consumption both to individual consumers and to the economy. While consumer&, are recognized as valuing market goods and services for the activities they can construct from them in the frameworks of several disciplines, consequences of the characteristics of goods and services they use in these activities have not been well studied. In the discourse to follow, I will contrast knowledge-yielding and conventional goods and services as factors in the construction of activities that consumers engage in when they are not in the workplace. Consumers will be seen as deciding on non-work activities and the inputs to these activities according to their objectives, and the values and cumulated skills they hold. I will suggest that knowledge content in these activities can be efficient for consumer objectives and also have important externalities through its effect on productivity at work and economic growth. The exposition will seek to elaborate these points and contribute to multi disciplinal dialogue on consumption. It takes as its starting point the contention that consumption is simultaneously an economic and social psychological process and that integration of content can contribute to explanation.
Book Synopsis Reading Power, Revised & Expanded Edition by : Adrienne Gear
Download or read book Reading Power, Revised & Expanded Edition written by Adrienne Gear and published by Pembroke Publishers Limited. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years ago, Reading Power was launched in an elementary school in Vancouver. It has since evolved into a recognized approach to comprehension instruction being implemented across Canada, in the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, and China. This ground-breaking approach showed teachers how to help students think while they read — connect, question, visualize, infer, and transform. Since the publication of the first edition of Reading Power, Adrienne Gear has continued to reflect on and refine her ideas about metacognition, comprehension instruction, and the Reading Power strategies. This revised and expanded edition shares these new understandings, and offers teachers new ideas, new lessons, and, of course, new anchor books to support the Reading Power principles. An ideal resource for teachers familiar to this strategic approach to teaching reading, or for those looking for new ways to connect thinking with reading.

On the social site Micespace she learns that her friend could be in terrible danger, so Coco assembles an extraction team to get him back: Terry, a technology whiz whose computer skills are second to none; Banoffee, a mother of fourteen with the organizational and motivational powers to match; and Eduardo, the heroic (and very handsome) Peruvian freedom fighter. Will Coco and her guinea pig commandos find a way to rescue Fuzzy and get back home alive?
