Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace is the heart of the Christian gospel. It's a doctrine that touches the very depths of human existence and makes Christianity such an essential alternative to the dissolution and nihilism of modern culture. Grace Alone guides you into a better doctrinal understanding of the issue and gives you a more glorious vision of an active and saving God. The language of grace fills the Bible so much that to say "grace alone" may not evoke much reflection. Unlike "faith alone," there's no theological controversy among expressions of Christianity. Reviving one of the five great declarations of the Reformation (and one of the more overlooked)—sola Gratia—professor and church historian Carl Trueman: Provides a thorough definition of grace as it's found in the Bible and an overview of biblical references to, and teaching on, grace. Tracks the doctrine of grace as it's been articulated throughout church history, with discussions of Augustine, Pelagius, Thomas Aquinas, and ending with the Reformation and theologies of Luther and Calvin. Looks at the relationship between the means of grace and the modern church, defining the practical implications of the Reformation's understanding of grace. Explanations throughout on the relationship of grace to sin, salvation and glorification, God's sovereignty, the sacraments, and the controversies regarding freewill and predestination. Grace Alone is a beautiful and much-needed revival of this foundational doctrine and the assurance of salvation. —THE FIVE SOLAS— Historians and theologians have long recognized that at the heart of the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation were five declarations, often referred to as the "solas." These five statements summarize much of what the Reformation was about, and they distinguish Protestantism from other expressions of the Christian faith: that they place ultimate and final authority in the Scriptures, acknowledge the work of Christ alone as sufficient for redemption, recognize that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, and seek to do all things for God’s glory. The Five Solas Series is more than a simple rehashing of these statements, but instead expounds upon the biblical reasoning behind them, leading to a more profound theological vision of our lives and callings as Christians and churches.

Grace and mercy diametrically change a man's course of life from being on the broad way that leads to Hell, onto the narrow way that leads to Heaven. God changes things. Grace and mercy are words of hope, not of uncertain hope, not a hope based on what you do with them, not a flimsy, wishful thinking type hope, but a definite, reliable, trustworthy and promised hope. A covenant hope. A hope that can never disappoint. A hope that is sure and unwavering. A hope that is eternal. The Christian's hope is in the God of grace. The Christian's hope is not in the fact he has changed, but solely in the One Who has changed him. The Christian's hope is in God and His grace, and not at all in himself and any of his works. The Christian's hope is not in what he has done, but only in what God has done in him.

Rather, the purpose is to redirect the sole honor, glory, and credit for anyone’s salvation toward the Triune God and away from any human initiative or action. To take credit for any part of salvation, regardless of the amount, is to take away from the effectiveness of the workings of the Holy Spirit, Christ’s sacrifice, and the Father’s divine will.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does a person come to faith in Christ? Is that faith a gift from God or the work of man--or some combination of the two? As Martin Luther wrote long ago, the issue of who does what in the matter of salvation constitutes the most fundamental of questions that the believer in Christ must face. It was the question at the heart of the struggle to reform the church in the sixteenth century, and it has resurfaced as a source of contention within the evangelical church of our day. In The Gift of Faith, Bryan Holstrom offers a fresh exploration of the issues involved and the biblical basis for the traditional understanding that faith is a gift from God. He lays out the relationship between grace and faith, and argues that the teaching on salvation that is found in many churches today is derived more from the modern self-esteem movement than from a careful reading of the Bible. Most importantly, Holstrom demonstrates that what is ultimately at stake in the battle over grace and faith is our understanding of the glory of God. This book will help you discover how that glory shines through most brilliantly in his bringing sinners to salvation; a work that finds its beginning and end in his grace alone.

Book excerpt: In a world where religious doctrines are often accepted without question, this insightful and thought-provoking booklet challenges one of Christianity's long-held beliefs - the doctrine of eternal rewards or the "crowns" doctrine.Author Randy White bravely delves into the Scriptures, questioning the validity of a doctrine that, at its core, seems to contradict the fundamental Christian belief in salvation by grace alone. Do the teachings of the Bible truly support the idea of a heavenly reward system based on earthly works and faithfulness? Or have we misunderstood God's Word and His gift of grace?Through careful analysis, Dr. White presents a different perspective - a rightly-divided approach to the Bible that reconciles God's grace with eternal rewards. This approach separates the rewards promised to Israel from the completeness in Christ for the believer, offering a fresh, grace-centered understanding of eternal rewards."By Grace Alone: Rethinking Eternal Rewards in Christian Theology" invites readers to explore a path that isn't motivated by striving for crowns or rewards, but rather by the limitless grace God has shown us. It is an invitation to serve God out of love, gratitude, and the joy of knowing that our salvation and completeness in Christ are secure.Dive in and be ready to reconsider what you thought you knew about rewards in heaven. This exploration is sure to enrich your understanding of God's Word and deepen your relationship with the God of grace.

Book excerpt: This study explores the Shepherd Controversy (1975-1982) and the contemporary debate on covenant and justification by faith from the perspectives of historical, systematic, and biblical theology. The distinctive contribution lies in the identification that the Shepherd Controversy as a logical outcome of rejecting the distinction between Law and Gospel at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. The larger problem is that Norman Shepherd and other associated theologians reject the distinction between Law and Gospel, injecting their monocovenantalism into the theologies of Calvin, the Westminster Standards, and Murray. The result has been hermeneutical and theological confusion among some of the followers of the Union with Christ School scholars. Reformed theonomists (led by Greg Bahnsen), Auburn Avenue theologians, and pastors are also monocovenantalists and have been influenced by the Union with Christ School scholars directly and indirectly. Their common denominator is the rejection of the distinction between Law and Gospel in their analysis and understanding of covenant and justification by faith. Having been influenced by the Union with Christ School scholars at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, some scholars began to adopt the hermeneutics and theology of the New Perspective on Paul, which is anti-Reformational and anti-Pauline. The adaptation of the New Perspective on Paul among some of the followers of the Union with Christ School is a logical step because both of them reject the distinction between Law and Gospel, which was a key hermeneutical and theological tool during the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation against the background of the medieval legalistic religion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses history and the Bible to offers a fresh and scriptural interpretation of passages of the Bible which for centuries remained a mystery to the student of Bible prophecy, including “Mystery, Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and of the abomination of the earth”. I will explore the myths and deception of Roman Catholicism and their direct connection with the idolatrous worship system of the Mother and Child of ancient Babylon. The claims that Roman Catholicism is the only true Church of Christ on Earth and the claim that man can’t find salvation apart from her is the greatest deception the world has ever known. Centuries of moral crisis and sexual abuse of children speak volumes about the true nature of the leaders of the Catholic Church. The abhorrence of marriage and the negative view of women recorded in the Canon Laws clearly reflect the Vatican’s Gnostic belief on sexual intercourse and the imposition of celibacy. Many people throughout the world equate “Christianity” with everything that is vile, contemptible and depraved. For centuries the Roman C. Church suppressed basic human rights and also persecuted and murdered anyone who held beliefs which conflicted with the dogma of the church. During the horrors of the “Inquisition” tens of thousands of people were tortured, dismembered, beaten, and burned alive, all in the name of a fraudulent faith. Roman Catholicism is the false representation of truth and also the cause great many people throughout history have repudiated true Christianity. The history of crimes the papacy has committed throughout history is so compelling that it would inevitably lead any objective thinker to the conclusion that throughout the history of the world there hasn’t been any other organization as notorious as the Roman C. Church. The long history of cruelty, crimes and immorality that for centuries the church of Judas has committed on every generation, provides irrefutable proof that she is not of God.

And does this accurately summarize the gospel? Because faith is frequently misunderstood and the climax of the gospel misidentified, the gospel's full power remains untapped. While offering a fresh proposal for what faith means within a biblical theology of salvation, Matthew Bates presses the church toward a new precision: we are saved solely by allegiance to Jesus the king. Instead of faith alone, Christians must speak about salvation by allegiance alone. The book includes discussion questions for students, pastors, and church groups and a foreword by Scot McKnight.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There is no more important issue in theological study than the meaning of faith in the New Testament. The perennial problem of the misunderstanding concerning the nature of faith has produced a variety of theological errors as well as pastoral problems for the church. In a day of rampant theological confusion concerning justification by faith the nature of faith is paramount. This book provides a penetrating examination through exegetical precision, concerning the nature of faith. For those who believe in "faith alone in Christ alone" this book will guide you into an understanding of what faith is and what it is not. This is a book that needed to be written and a book that must be read. -- Earl Radmacher, ThD, President Emeritus, Western Seminary Most evangelical Protestants agree that salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone. However, what they cannot agree on is the meaning of faith. Are there different kinds of faith in the Bible? Is there saving faith and non-saving faith? Is faith a matter of the mind, or the mind and the emotions, or the mind, emotions, and will? Is faith active or passive on the part of the believer? Is it a gift of God or a work of man? All these questions and many more are explored in depth by Chay and Correia. They have done a commendable job of dealing with words studies, grammatical nuances, and debated passages. Such a work is long overdue. --Dave Anderson, PhD, President and professor of Theology, Grace School of Theology; President, Free Grace Alliance
