Book Synopsis Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government by : United States Government Accountability Office
Download or read book Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government written by United States Government Accountability Office and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers and program managers are continually seeking ways to improve accountability in achieving an entity's mission. A key factor in improving accountability in achieving an entity's mission is to implement an effective internal control system. An effective internal control system helps an entity adapt to shifting environments, evolving demands, changing risks, and new priorities. As programs change and entities strive to improve operational processes and implement new technology, management continually evaluates its internal control system so that it is effective and updated when necessary. Section 3512 (c) and (d) of Title 31 of the United States Code (commonly known as the Federal Managers' Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA)) requires the Comptroller General to issue standards for internal control in the federal government.
Book Synopsis The Wrong Complexion for Protection by : Robert D. Bullard
Download or read book The Wrong Complexion for Protection written by Robert D. Bullard and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-07-23 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncovers the ways the United States government responds to natural and human-induced disasters in relation to race over the past eight decades When the images of desperate, hungry, thirsty, sick, mostly black people circulated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it became apparent to the whole country that race did indeed matter when it came to government assistance. In The Wrong Complexion for Protection, Robert D. Bullard and Beverly Wright place the government response to natural and human-induced disasters in historical context over the past eight decades. They compare and contrast how the government responded to emergencies, including environmental and public health emergencies, toxic contamination, industrial accidents, bioterrorism threats and show that African Americans are disproportionately affected. Bullard and Wright argue that uncovering and eliminating disparate disaster response can mean the difference between life and death for those most vulnerable in disastrous times.

Book excerpt: This is the Committee's second annual report monitoring the Government's response to human rights judgments in the European Court of Human Rights. The Committee criticises the Government for its failure to respond to many of its recommendations in its previous report (17th report session 2006-07, HL 128/HC 728, ISBN 9780104011065). The Committee believes the Government should take a consistent and transparent approach across departments to the way in which it responds to declarations of incompatibility and judgments fro the European Court, with the Ministry of Justice co-ordinating the response to adverse judgments. This report also examines a number of issues arising from outstanding judgments: access to artificial insemination for prisoners and their partners; controlling membership of trade union; prisoners' voting rights; investigations into cases involving the use of lethal force; security of tenure for gypsies and travellers, and the corporal punishment of children.

Book Synopsis Government's response to the consultation on Disability Living Allowance reform by : Great Britain: Department for Work and Pensions

This book was released on 2011-04-04 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 6 December 2010, the Government published Disability Living Allowance reform (Cm 7984, ISBN 9780101798426) which set out its reform proposals and sought people's views. This document outlines the responses received, from both individuals and organisations, and provides further information regarding the replacement of DLA and the introduction of Personal Independence Payment for people of working age (16-64) from 2013/14. The Government will ensure that the new Personal Independence Payment remains a non-mean-tested and non-taxable cash benefit which people can spend in a way that best suits them. The aim, through the introduction of Personal Independence Payment, is to make the benefit fairer, more straightforward to administer, and for it to be easier and clearer to understand. There will be two components of Personal Independence Payment; a daily living component and a mobility component, each with a standard and enhanced rate. The Government is developing the assessment for Personal Independence Payment in collaboration with a group of independent specialists and will consider an individual's ability to carry out key everyday activities. The greatest priority in awarding the benefit will be that it goes to those individuals who are least able to carry them out. The application and administration process will be made as straightforward as possible. The Personal Independence Payment will not be extended to new or existing claims for children from 2013/14. And the proposal to withdraw the DLA mobility component from people in residential care will not now be implemented.

This book was released on 2007-06-28 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the UK's institutional arrangements for protecting human rights, both Parliament and the judiciary have a central role. When the courts give a judgement finding that a law, policy or practice is in breach of human rights, it is for Parliament to scrutinise the adequacy of the Government's response and in some cases decide if there needs to be a change in law. An important part of the role of the Committee is to help Parliament in this function. This report brings together all their monitoring work in relation to both judgements of the European Court of Human Rights and declarations of incompatibility given by UK courts under the Human Rights Act.
Book Synopsis Ministry of Justice: Government Response to the Justice Committee's Second Report of Session 2013-14: Female Offenders - Cm. 8729 by : Great Britain: Ministry of Justice
Download or read book Ministry of Justice: Government Response to the Justice Committee's Second Report of Session 2013-14: Female Offenders - Cm. 8729 written by Great Britain: Ministry of Justice and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-10-25 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this response to the Justice Committee following their inquiry into female offenders, the Ministry of Justice sets out plans to establish an open unit at HMP Styal and test this approach, set up community employment regimes across the estate to improve more women's access to jobs for their release, and create strategic hubs in order to improve closeness to home in certain regions. In addition to this, for the first time, all women will receive support through-the-gate and 12 months supervision on release as part of the Transforming rehabilitation reforms. NOMS' Stocktake of Community Services for Female Offenders shows that the spread and availability of community services specifically for women has been increasing. This sets the groundwork for the expansion of community support to women on release from short-sentences in 2014 and beyond. Efforts to divert women from custody where it is appropriate to do so also continue. The Ministry is also introducing legislation through the Offender Rehabilitation Bill to ensure that the Secretary of State enters into contracts with probation providers that identify and consider the particular needs of female offenders. To this end guidance is being issued so that probation providers fully understand the particular needs of female offenders and how to meet those needs.

The regulatory and policy choices governments and other regulatory bodies make have a profound impact on the industry by decreasing or magnifying uncertainty. Many of these disruptive technologies offer opportunities and challenges to the way governments interact in their communities. Government Response to Disruptive Innovation: Perspectives and Examinations presents research and case studies on government responses to disruptive innovations from a wide array of countries. It addresses the effects on the development of these innovations as a result of responses governments make. Covering topics such as citizen partnerships, communication technology development, and government action, this premier reference source is a dynamic resource for legal professionals, activists, government officials, sociologists, business leaders and executives, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
