Book excerpt: Governments in Western Europe, Government in Sweden: The Executive at Work focuses on the affairs of the Swedish government. The book first offers information on the structure and constitutional reforms instituted in the government of Sweden. This information includes the function of the monarchy, council of state, and departments and boards in running the affairs of the government. The text also expounds on the volume of citizens involved in state service, and also the legislative process of the country. The selection also examines the internal and judicial controls on the executive branch of the government. The liability of civil servants for their actions; creation of specialized agencies for internal finance and efficiency control; and administrative appeals are elaborated. Discussions also focus on the external controls of the executive branch. Consideration includes the publicity of official documents; inspection of the minutes of the council; parliamentary auditors and ombudsmen; and interpellations and questions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is it that Sweden has been able to combine political stability with an entrenched multiparty system? How is it that she has produced such remarkable achievements in economic policy, social welfare, labor relations, and international cooperation? In this first comprehensive study of Swedish parties and cabinet government in English the author examines the delicate yet effective means of compromise worked out by the political parties. The first three chapters are a concise history of Swedish politics, from the time when the parliament consisted of four estates to the present, while the succeeding chapters give a systematic account of the four groups responsible for representative government in Sweden: the electorate, parties, legislature, and cabinet. Book Synopsis Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe by : Who Regional Office for Europe
Download or read book Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe written by Who Regional Office for Europe and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are public health services? Countries across Europe understand what they are or what they should include differently. This study describes the experiences of nine countries detailing the ways they have opted to organize and finance public health services and train and employ their public health workforce. It covers England France Germany Italy the Netherlands Slovenia Sweden Poland and the Republic of Moldova and aims to give insights into current practice that will support decision-makers in their efforts to strengthen public health capacities and services. Each country chapter captures the historical background of public health services and the context in which they operate; sets out the main organizational structures; assesses the sources of public health financing and how it is allocated; explains the training and employment of the public health workforce; and analyses existing frameworks for quality and performance assessment. The study reveals a wide range of experience and variation across Europe and clearly illustrates two fundamentally different approaches to public health services: integration with curative health services (as in Slovenia or Sweden) or organization and provision through a separate parallel structure (Republic of Moldova). The case studies explore the context that explain this divergence and its implications. This study is the result of close collaboration between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the WHO Regional Office for Europe Division of Health Systems and Public Health. It accompanies two other Observatory publications Organization and financing of public health services in Europe and The role of public health organizations in addressing public health problems in Europe: the case of obesity alcohol and antimicrobial resistance (both forthcoming).

Book Synopsis Freedom of the Press Act by : Swedish Government
Download or read book Freedom of the Press Act written by Swedish Government and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-11 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Freedom of the Press Act' is one of the four Fundamental Laws of the Realm (rikets grundlagar) and thus forms part of the Swedish Constitution. The Act regulates matters regarding freedom of press and principle of public access to official records. The Freedom of the Press Act as well as the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression is one of the two "basic media acts" in Sweden. The Freedom of the Press Act is derived from the Freedom of the Press Act of 1766; the legislation is regarded as the world's first law supporting the freedom of the press and freedom of information. In its first version, it brought freedom of the press in Sweden—then under the Holstein-Gottorp monarchy—to a level then only rivaled by the liberal Dutch republic and the United Kingdom of the Bill of Rights of 1689.
