Book Synopsis Pillars of a Mature Worldview by : Michael Merkel
Download or read book Pillars of a Mature Worldview written by Michael Merkel and published by tredition. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our worldview determines our perception of reality and thus shapes our attitude to life and the way we live. If our worldview adequately reflects reality, we can lead an authentic and meaningful life that we will later look back on with satisfaction. A mature worldview is much more than the accumulation of facts and experiences. Whereas in the past there was primarily a lack of scientific insight, today it is above all the immense flood of information and opinions that obscures our view of essential knowledge. It is therefore not surprising that people's views sometimes differ considerably with regard to fundamental questions of life. The thesis of this book is that in this age it is possible for the first time to obtain objectively convincing answers to the great philosophical questions of life. However, for this we have to draw on two equal sources of knowledge, which in the last centuries were rather regarded as adversaries: science and religion. In their respective updated forms, they are the key to separating truth from error and to assembling various worldview fragments into a coherent overall picture. If science and faith pull together in a mature way, great insights and undreamt-of connections open up. This book provides an easy-to-read, albeit quite comprehensive, introduction to the profound principle of the unity of science and religion. After examining what distinguishes modern science and true faith, it explains how both areas of knowledge are interrelated by their very nature and work constructively together. Building on this methodological foundation, essential philosophical concepts are explained in the light of current scientific and religious knowledge, which should not be missing as necessary pillars in any mature worldview.

Book Synopsis Creation and Evolution by : Pope Benedict XVI
Download or read book Creation and Evolution written by Pope Benedict XVI and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2009-09-03 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword by Cardinal Christoph Schönborn In 2005 the Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schönborn wrote a guest editorial in The New York Times that sparked a worldwide debate about "Creation and Evolution". Pope Benedict XVI instructed the Cardinal to study more closely this problem and the current debate between evolutionism and "creationism," and asked the yearly gathering of his former students to address these questions. Even after Joseph Ratzinger became Pope Benedict XVI, he has continued to maintain close contact with the circle of his former students. The "study circle" (Schulerkrers) meets once a year with Pope Benedict XVI for a conference. Many of these former Ratzinger students have gone on to become acclaimed scholars, professors and writers, as well as high ranking Church prelates. This book documents the proceedings of the remarkable conference on the topic of "Creation and Evolution" hosted by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006 at the papal summer residence, Castel Gandolfo. It includes papers that were presented from the fields of natural science, philosophy and theology, and records the subsequent discussion, in which Pope Benedict XVI himself participated. "Ultimately it comes down to the alternative: What came first? Creative Reason, the Creator Spirit who makes all things and gives them growth, or Unreason, which, lacking any meaning, strangely enough brings forth a mathematically ordered cosmos, as well as man and his reason. The latter, however, would then be nothing more than a chance result of evolution and thus, in the end, equally meaningless. As Christians, we say: I believe in God the Father, the Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in the Creator Spirit. We believe that at the beginning of everything is the eternal Word, with Reason and not Unreason." — Pope Benedict XVI

Book Synopsis TRACTATUS LOGO-PHILOSOPHICUS by : Walter A. Koch
Download or read book TRACTATUS LOGO-PHILOSOPHICUS written by Walter A. Koch and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2009 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new form of Protophysics discerns clues to a deeper form of reality: it lies before, after, beyond, and within the more familiar universe, which is described by mainstream physics. "Tractatus" is a philosophic approach; it tries to give the preliminary outlines for a corresponding "Philosophy in a New Key". It delineates an infinite "megaverse", which seems weird at first sight and comforting at the same time. Seemingly incompatible realms of experience such as "The Structure of the Megaverse", "The Frames for Unfolding and Evolution", "The Role of Cognition and Emotion in the Universe", "The Universality of Love", "The Reality of Prayer and God", "The Roots of Logic and Logos" fall into place: they appear to join in a harmonious whole. The New Philosophy relies on "biperspectivism" as the deepest structure in the Megaverse and in the human mind. Biperspectivism has many forms and names: "Energy vs. Information" is one of them. (Schopenhauer's "Wille und Vorstellung" is but an echo of it all.) In the view of this philosophy, a New Physics spontaneously begets a new METAphysics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Palgrave Handbook of Mimetic Theory and Religion draws on the expertise of leading scholars and thinkers to explore the violent origins of culture, the meaning of ritual, and the conjunction of theology and anthropology, as well as secularization, science, and terrorism. Authors assess the contributions of René Girard’s mimetic theory to our understanding of sacrifice, ancient tragedy, and post-modernity, and apply its insights to religious cinema and the global economy. This handbook serves as introduction and guide to a theory of religion and human behavior that has established itself as fertile terrain for scholarly research and intellectual reflection.

Book Synopsis God's Gift, World's Deception by : Christos Retoulas
Download or read book God's Gift, World's Deception written by Christos Retoulas and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2022-08 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Situating former Harvard neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander's Near-Death Experience within the ontological landscape of Romanity, or, the 'Byzantine'-Ottoman Continuum of Roman Ecumenicity, namely: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, God's Gift, World's Deception is a unique exploration of this unique NDE, attesting to its vital and organic ties to those experiences of the New Testament Fathers of the 'Byzantine' Apostolic Catholic Orthodox Church (ἡ τῶν πάντων ἑνότης, the unity of all being/existents), which came to them via theosis. The book claims that Dr. Alexander's experience is indeed a continuation and completion of the theophanic visions of the Old Testament Prophets, and is linked to the imaginal divine becomings of the Koranic Ottoman vahdet-i vücud tasavvuf Masters ('the unity-of-Being' Sufism, in both Sunni and Alevi traditions); but also highlights the distorting effects of the interpretive resources available in the predominantly neo-Gnostic-cratic West (religious and secular), as well as its Globalist agenda, creating an unfit backdrop for an exegetical attempt at the Proof of Heaven Experience. Ultimately, God's Gift, World's Deception reconfirms the engendered existence of the Divine-human Ecumene as a historically spiritual-somatic reflection of the Divine Realm, and, above all, it shows the Theanthropic Lord Jesus Christ as the True Om, the Real Hakîkat-ı Muhammediyye, and the Eternal Tao.
