But what if, like the majority of those facing retirement, you can’t afford such a luxury? Or, what if you just want something more from retirement? Some advocate for no retirement at all. But you’ve worked for decades and a rest and reprieve do sound appealing. What should you do? Does God have a purpose for your retirement? Yes, He does. Learn how to discern what it is by taking an uncommon approach. Jeff Haanen looks biblically and practically at the need for rest and purpose in retirement. And teaches you how to: Take a sabbatical rest in early retirement Listen to God’s voice for their calling in retirement Rethink “work” in retirement Understand family systems and leaving a legacy Planning retirement doesn’t have to be distressing. Retire in a way that’s God-honoring, purpose-filled, restful, and truly biblical.

Download or read book Humorous Wit written by Djamel Ouis and published by Paragon Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humorous Wit is a new compilation of quotations in their most humoristic form. There are over 15,000 of these taken from various parts of the world, with over 1,200 of them translated into English for the first time. This book features 5,000 authors from every corner of the globe, covering a period starting before classical antiquity, when man first started to record his thoughts, to modern times, enriching the cultural heritage. This does not in any way mean that the caveman was less humorous, but the richness of the environment we live in today and the variety of subject matter contribute considerably to a refined sense of humour. Moreover, considering that chimps and other primates also possess the ability to laugh, humour may have been around longer than the human race : )

Book excerpt: The path of true love never did run smooth...did it? Kelsey Anderson is stuck in a rut so big, she’ll need a 4-wheel drive to get out. She’s just been made redundant from her dead-end job, and boyfriend Fran is so busy climbing up the career ladder that he’s forgotten how to have fun. She needs to change her life – and fast. Stumbling across an advert for tour guides in Stratford-Upon-Avon seems like the perfect way to bring the sunshine back. In an impulsive move, she moves from her small Scottish village to Shakespeare’s birthplace, armed only with a suitcase and her battered copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnets. Kelsey quickly falls in love with the place, her job as a tourist guide allowing her to explore every inch of the picture-perfect town, from cosy cafes to the picturesque banks of the river. But it’s not just the town that captures her heart, as she finds herself torn between the actors Will and Jonathan who both vie for her affections. But will beautiful Peony, the lead actress at the Oklahoma theatre company where Jonathan is playing Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, play a role in keeping Kelsey and Jonathan apart? Or will flirtatious, charming Will, the fellow tour guide who has set his sights on Kelsey, keep the star-crossed lovers from finding their happy ending? A gorgeously uplifting, feel good romance that will captivate readers of Holly Martin, Cathy Bramley and Milly Johnson. Readers are loving One Summer’s Night: 'I absolutely loved this debut novel from Kiley Dunbar...I haven't enjoyed a book in this genre as much as this for a long time...I defy anyone not to be rooting for Kelsey and booking a mini-break to Stratford when they finish this book! Book Synopsis Life Transitions in America by : Francesco Duina
Download or read book Life Transitions in America written by Francesco Duina and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-02-12 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We celebrate, talk about, and worry a great deal about transitions in life. Going to college, having a first child, losing a job, and retiring constitute just a few of the pivotal moments in the lives of many. Sociologists and psychologists have devoted considerable attention to life transitions. Yet we know very little about whether there exists a common thread to our understandings of life transitions in general. How do journalists, leading politicians, sport icons, bestselling authors, government agencies, Hallmark cards, popular TV shows, and other “voices” of popular culture talk about transitions in life? Do these voices provide a coherent picture of how we make sense of life transitions? In this book, Francesco Duina shows how the dominant American discourse articulates two basic approaches to transitions in life. The first approach depicts transitions as exciting, individualistic opportunities for new beginnings: the past is cast aside, the future is wide open, and the self has the opportunity to recreate itself anew. The second paints transitions as having to do with continuity, our connections to others, and the life-cycle, with an emphasis on acceptance and adaptation. Though contrasting, the two approaches ultimately complement each other. Their analysis reveals a great deal about American culture and society, and will be of great interest to students of the life course and the sociology of culture.

Download or read book the Savvy Dictionary written by and published by Abbott Press. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Word play comes in many forms, and a dictionary consisting of creative definitions is not a new concept. The Savvy Dictionary, however, takes this idea and expands upon it, turning to a large and diverse set of sources to present familiar concepts in a new light. In this entertaining and enlightening reference, author and former teacher Heck Tate uses quotes and phrases coined by both famous and less familiar figures throughout history to define words in a way never seen before. He draws from authorities as diverse as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Agatha Christie, Garrison Keillor, Eleanor Roosevelt, the Bible, and his former students (listed anonymously). The excerpts provided here reach back to the time of the ancient Greeks and sweep into the present. A fusion of a traditional lexicon and Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations that draws from the words of authors, philosophers, theologians, wits, and wisecrackers, this is a dictionary everyone can read just for the fun of it.
Book Synopsis Life Is A Re-Run (A Love Story) by : Angie Cullinan
Download or read book Life Is A Re-Run (A Love Story) written by Angie Cullinan and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-05-30 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jack, a poor boy, raised by depression-scarred parents, was the envy of his boyhood friends. His father drove a delivery truck full of ice cream. He was introduced to the world outside of his home town through the out of town newspapers he delivered on his paper route. Perhaps you will recognize a loved one, an old friend or a familiar situation as Jack shares his experiences as a young boy, husband, father, health care worker, technical expert and marketing professional. His boyhood aspirations were achieved when Jack, accepted as an international speaker found himself on stage. Anecdotal stories, as Jack recalls them, are from a more simple time in life. To protect the privacy of the characters, names and places were often changed. A few incidents were deliberately embellished to accentuate the tone of the story. The acronym, LIAR, allows for some exaggeration. Many aspects of love are reflected in Life is a Re-Run stories. Hopefully it will become obvious why this book is truly a love story.

Book Synopsis The Evening Hero by : Marie Myung-Ok Lee
Download or read book The Evening Hero written by Marie Myung-Ok Lee and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “moving and captivating” (Cathy Park Hong, New York Times bestselling author of Minor Feelings) novel following a Korean immigrant pursuing the American dream who must confront the secrets of the past or risk watching the world he’s worked so hard to build come crumbling down. Dr. Yungman Kwak is in the twilight of his life. Every day for the last fifty years, he has brushed his teeth, slipped on his shoes, and headed to Horse Breath’s General Hospital, where, as an obstetrician, he treats the women and babies of the small rural Minnesota town he chose to call home. This was the life he longed for. The so-called American dream. He immigrated from Korea after the Korean War, forced to leave his family, ancestors, village, and all that he knew behind. But his life is built on a lie. And one day, a letter arrives that threatens to expose it. Yungman’s life is thrown into chaos—the hospital abruptly closes, his wife refuses to spend time with him, and his son is busy investing in a struggling health start-up. Yungman faces a choice—he must choose to hide his secret from his family and friends or confess and potentially lose all he’s built. He begins to question the very assumptions on which his life is built—the so-called American dream, with the abject failure of its healthcare system, patients and neighbors who perpetuate racism, a town flawed with infrastructure, and a history that doesn’t see him in it. Toggling between the past and the present, Korea and America, Evening Hero is a “soulful, melodic, rhapsodic novel” (The New York Times) about a man looking back at his life and asking big questions about what is lost and what is gained when immigrants leave home for new shores.
