Download or read book The Golden Thread written by Amali Gunasekera and published by . This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blending the sacred and the everyday, Amali Gunasekera's second collection The Golden Thread is a search for grace through the deep process of transmuting emotional trauma into peace. She takes up Muriel Rukeyser's famous line: 'What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.' Her book's central sequence, Nine [Miscarried] Methods, considers the challenge of asserting a woman's equal status within a patriarchal objectified culture. Approaching the polemic or the existential with a gentle touch, this is poetry as lyric essay, mysterious and shapeshifting as sunlight on water. Formally, the poems explore the instability of the lyric 'I' and the addressed 'You'. Often there is no static vantage point; instead, the 'I' and 'You' are verbs in a state of becoming. Their very unfixity reflects dynamic systems in the natural world where elements are constantly interacting and altering their natures. These poems also respond to Wilfred Bion's notion of 'Thoughts Without a Thinker' and Carl Jung's 'Collective Unconscious' through a rich symbolic system they simultaneously hold two dimensions of time; the linear Chronos of our material world, and the vertical Kairos or spiritual time. Thus, the field of this collection is holographic, in search of new co-ordinates, always beholden to something just beyond sight. Amali Gunasekera was born and grew up in Sri Lanka. She works in the field of Archetypal Psychology. After living in Mozambique, Kenya and India, she is now based in Cumbria. Her first collection, The Lotus Gatherers, was published by Bloodaxe in 2016 (under her former name of Amali Rodrigo).

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gold-Thread, and Other Poems These poems are published by the urgent re quest oi friends, many of whose faces I have never seen, whose hands have never been clasped in mine, but whose sweet sympathies have sprung into life and linked our hearts even as the beauti ful gold-thread, which creeps through the Silent darkness of the ground and links its marvelous nerve-like tendrils together in thousands of insep arable ties, sending up now and then a pure white blossom that makes the world more fragrant and lovely - we know not how. I have called my book gold-thread, for it seems to me its contents have sprung out of the hidden intensities of my woman's heart; that in it and with it lie the deepest sorrows and sweetest joys I have ever known. Book Synopsis Poetry, Method and Education Research by : Esther Fitzpatrick
Download or read book Poetry, Method and Education Research written by Esther Fitzpatrick and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-21 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry can be both political and pedagogical. It is utilised in a variety of ways in research to enhance, critique, analyse, and express different voices. Poetry, Method and Education Research brings together international scholars to explore issues as diverse as neoliberalism, culture, decolonising education, health, and teacher identities. A key strength of the book is its attention to poetry as a research method, including discussions of "how to" engage with poetry in research, as well as including a range of research poems. Poetry is thus framed as both a method and performance. Authors in this book address a wide variety of questions from different perspectives including how to use poetry to think about complex issues in education, where poetry belongs in a research project, how to write poetry to generate and analyse "data", and how poetry can represent these findings. This book is an essential resource for students and researchers in education programmes, and those who teach in graduate research methods courses.
