Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wanted to peer through a telescope into the lives of others? Who hasn't wanted to, right? In the pages of this book, God Spells Love with an X, no telescope is needed. The author, Brigitta Hebdon, welcomes the reader into her crazy family that is profoundly affected by Fragile X syndrome. This is not a parenting book, although it's told from a mother's perspective. It's not a how-to book for righteous living, because goodness knows she hasn't figured that out! It will not demonstrate exemplary positivity. You'll find that the author is human. She yells, curses, and fights. She also cries, prays, seeks forgiveness, and keeps going. It's not a book about God, although he is present in every chapter. This is a tale of remarkable love. Jared teaches his mom every day how to view the world in unique and hilarious ways. The lessons are chronicled in the Facebook posts Brigitta has kept for the last fifteen years since Jared was in elementary school. This book is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and probably get a little mad. It's not a story about disability. These life lessons are for everyone, the most important one being that God is with you regardless of your circumstances. Jared's world is beautiful, something he has to remind his mom of every day. The tapestry of his life is woven in colorful threads of childlike innocence, imagination, and his keen sense of humor. The dark hues are a result of mood and behavior disorders, as well as other affectations brought on by his disability. But a tapestry without shadows and contrasts is flat and boring. The dynamic between Jared and his mom is anything but boring! For example... Arguing with Jared about whether or not his lunch (that I packed) sucks. Finally, he ended the "discussion" with this, "Gosh, you're being a brat." --Facebook, November 2014, age 13 This book will make you smile and be grateful for your own life's challenges, just like the feeling you get when you watch someone pull gum out of their hair. You'll laugh at the circumstances, all the while being happy it's not you pulling out your own hair. However, these life lessons will give you tools for your own struggles, because we don't always get gum in our hair, but eventually, we all step on it! Cover Design by Rian Elaine

In this authorized biography, drawing from her interviews with Schwartz and his collaborators, author Carol de Giere focuses on the behind-the-scenes stories for Schwartz's hits and disappointing flops. Readers will find colorful anecdotes and insights for his licensed musicals Children of Eden, Pippin Working, and others. Defying Gravity also includes Hollywood stories, beginning with a new foreword by composer Alan Menken. This updated and revised second edition delves into Stephen Schwartz's creative process for the new stage musicals The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt, and other shows. It provides additional insights on Schwartz's early work with Leonard Bernstein and his more recent international work on Wicked. It offers additional “Creative Notes” – a popular feature of the first edition – with comments from Schwartz about overcoming creative blocks, collaboration, and the artistic life.

Book excerpt: Discover God's Hope for Your Family...The modern American family faces many pressures. Often fragile marriages or parent-child relationships are held together by little more than band-aids, paper clips, or rubber bands. Such makeshift repairs only work temporarily. Good News! The Word of God offers more than temporary fixes for these human struggles. There is hope for your home life no matter how serious the problems or how deep the conflicts may seem. God's Hope for Your Home explores the biblical essentials for maintaining healthy family relationships and living with a godly hope. "Keeping the Word of God at the center of the family circle is not something than can be done part time like a hobby, nor is it an easy goal. Lance Sparks has given families a practical and helpful head start with God's Hope for Your Home. I'm grateful for his clear, readable, engaging exposition of so many biblical principles that have direct application to family life. Whether you are a new parent or a seasoned grandparent, I know you will find this book supremely helpful. I'm delighted to see it in print, and I hope it will motivate and encourage Christian families for generations to come." -John MacArthur Pastor Lance D. Sparks received his training at Washington Bible College, Lanham, Maryland, and at Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, Indiana. He is the Senior Pastor/Teacher of Christ Community Church in West Covina, California. He, his wife Laurie, and six of their eight children live in Fontana, California. Pastor Lance's personal desire is to motivate believers to follow the foremost commandment, "and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30). He is the Bible teacher on Living Word Radio Broadcast Ministry in Southern California.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical texts have inspired more than 100 Broadway plays and musicals, ranging from early spectacles like Ben-Hur (1899) to more familiar works such as Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. What happens when a culture’s most sacred text enters its most commercial performance venue? Playing God focuses on eleven successful productions, as well as a few notable flops that highlight the difficulties in adapting the Old and New Testaments for the stage. The book is informed by both performance studies and theater history, combining analysis of play scripts with archival research into the actual circumstances of production and reception. Biblical plays, Henry Bial argues, balance religious and commercial considerations through a complex blend of spectacle, authenticity, sincerity, and irony. Though there is no magic formula for a successful adaptation, these four analytical lenses help explain why some biblical plays thrive while others have not.

This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monumental study examines issues of anthropomorphism in the three Abrahamic Faiths, as viewed through the texts of the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament and the Qur’an. Throughout history Christianity and Judaism have tried to make sense of God. While juxtaposing the Islamic position against this, the author addresses the Judeo-Christian worldview and how each has chosen to framework its encounter with God, to what extent this has been the result of actual scripture and to what extent the product of theological debate, or church decrees of later centuries and absorption of Hellenistic philosophy. Shah also examines Islam’s heavily anti-anthropomorphic stance and Islamic theological discourse on Tawhid as well as the Ninety-Nine Names of God and what these have meant in relation to Muslim understanding of God and His attributes. Describing how these became the touchstone of Muslim discourse with Judaism and Christianity he critiques theological statements and perspectives that came to dilute if not counter strict monotheism. As secularism debates whether God is dead, the issue of anthropomorphism has become of immense importance. The quest for God, especially in this day and age, is partly one of intellectual longing. To Shah, anthropomorphic concepts and corporeal depictions of the Divine are perhaps among the leading factors of modern atheism. As such he ultimately draws the conclusion that the postmodern longing for God will not be quenched by pre-modern anthropomorphic and corporeal concepts of the Divine which have simply brought God down to this cosmos, with a precise historical function and a specified location, reducing the intellectual and spiritual force of what God is and represents, causing the soul to detract from a sense of the sacred and thereby belief in Him.

Book excerpt: The God of Abraham The God of Isaac The God of Jacob The God of Sarah The God of Rebecca The God of Rachel The God of Leah ... the God of Me There is no easy prescription for how to know God, yet everyone can pursue a personal relationship with God, just as our patriarchs and matriarchs did in their lives. How we come to know God, however, is unique to each of us, influenced by our study of Torah, the insights of the Rabbis of antiquity, as well as our own experiences throughout our lifetime. To open the way for you to find God's presence in your life, Rabbi David Lyon uses the central prayer in Jewish worship, the Amidah, as a starting point, and guides you compellingly through classic Torah texts and midrash. He helps you clear away preconceived images of God from your childhood or dogmas that restrict your experience of God in personal and meaningful ways today. Combining profound teachings from Jewish sources with insights and experiences from real life, he shows how you can enjoy a unique relationship with God—the God of you, your God of me.

How do fans, musicians, and music industry executives define their markets’ boundaries? What happens when musicians cross those boundaries? What can Christian music teach us about commercial popular music? In God Rock, Inc., Andrew Mall considers the aesthetic, commercial, ethical, and social boundaries of Christian popular music, from the late 1960s, when it emerged, through the 2010s. Drawing on ethnographic research, historical archives, interviews with music industry executives, and critical analyses of recordings, concerts, and music festival performances, Mall explores the tensions that have shaped this evolving market and frames broader questions about commerce, ethics, resistance, and crossover in music that defines itself as outside the mainstream.

God actually reveals this in his word, but this book brings it out in modern day english in a way that is easy to understand, and with examples of the authors own personal experiences. This is not only for the young, this is for the mature Christian also....a must read to learn and grow spiritually. I am so glad I took my time and read this book, being a Christian of many years it brought out things I had never considered with my relationship with God. The epilogue has a special section for cancer patients, and perhaps they can relate to the author's personal diary he shares while going through chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and surgery. It was helpful/funny to read about his experience, and thoughts while he battled cancer during treatments.
