The same two evils plague many of God's people: #1, they have forsaken God, the fountain of living waters, and #2, they have hewn out for themselves wells—broken wells, that contain not the waters (Jeremiah 2:13).The author identifies two main tendencies that “Christians” are drawn to as “Legalism” and “Fatalism”. He himself spent over twenty years drinking from each, never able to quench his thirst for God.At the age of 22, after a dramatic conversion, almost immediately he joined a religious cult and spent years in spiritual bondage. Attempting to establish his own righteousness, he was not able to be subject to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:3).
