Book Synopsis GOD, the SENIORS and the HOUSEKEEPER by : Gloria Hayes
Download or read book GOD, the SENIORS and the HOUSEKEEPER written by Gloria Hayes and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the New King James Version of the Bible, it says that whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (Corinthians 10:31). So, with different verses like that going through my head all day, it was easy to spoil those seniors because I worked for God and not for man. It gave me great joy to clean, but the best and most profound part of the job was to pray over them and lead those who have been away to get reunited. That was the purpose the Lord sent me to that particular senior facility. Has God shown you His purpose in this life for you? If not, have you asked Him why he has created you? What purpose does He have for you in this life? If you ask, He will answer. I promise, He will answer
Book Synopsis The New Housekeeper's Manual by : Catharine Esther Beecher
Download or read book The New Housekeeper's Manual written by Catharine Esther Beecher and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1873 in New York, The New Housekeeper’s Manual was written by Catharine Esther Beecher and her sister Harriet Beecher Stowe, two of the most influential women writers and activists of their time. Both women exerted profound influence on American letters and on the shape of American domestic life and educational reform. The book combines two works by the sisters in one volume. The American Woman’s Home: Or Principles of Domestic Science describes kitchen and home design, coping with kitchen appliances and newly invented gadgets, cooking healthful food and drink, caring for the sick with medical recipes, and gardening with plants and domestic animals. The Handy Cook-Book is a “complete, condensed guide to wholesome, economical, and delicious cooking with nearly 500 choice and tested recipes.” The authors assert that their extensive manual was designed specifically for middle-class housewives, versus others written for women with money and servants. It includes housekeeping information and dishes for every occasion that the practical-minded housewife might need. The New Housekeeper’s Manual was well received and had over 25 printings in 25 years. This edition of The New Housekeeper’s Manual was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the Society is a research library documenting the life of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. The Society collects, preserves, and makes available as complete a record as possible of the printed materials from the early American experience. The cookbook collection includes approximately 1,100 volumes

Book Synopsis The Housekeeper's Tale by : Tessa Boase
Download or read book The Housekeeper's Tale written by Tessa Boase and published by Aurum. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working as a housekeeper was one of the most prestigious jobs a nineteenth and early twentieth century woman could want – and also one of the toughest. A far cry from the Downton Abbey fiction, the real life Mrs Hughes was up against capricious mistresses, low pay, no job security and gruelling physical labour. Until now, her story has never been told. The Housekeeper’s Tale reveals the personal sacrifices, bitter disputes and driving ambition that shaped these women’s careers. Delving into secret diaries, unpublished letters and the neglected service archives of our stately homes, Tessa Boase tells the extraordinary stories of five working women who ran some of Britain’s most prominent households. There is Dorothy Doar, Regency housekeeper for the obscenely wealthy 1st Duke and Duchess of Sutherland at Trentham Hall, Staffordshire. There is Sarah Wells, a deaf and elderly Victorian in charge of Uppark, West Sussex. Ellen Penketh is Edwardian cook-housekeeper at the sociable but impecunious Erddig Hall in the Welsh borders. Hannah Mackenzie runs Wrest Park in Bedfordshire – Britain’s first country-house war hospital, bankrolled by playwright J. M. Barrie. And there is Grace Higgens, cook-housekeeper to the Bloomsbury set at Charleston farmhouse in East Sussex for half a century – an era defined by the Second World War. Revelatory, gripping and unexpectedly poignant, The Housekeeper’s Tale champions the invisible women who ran the English country house. Normal0falsefalsefalseEN-GBX-NONEX-NONE

Book excerpt: He is a brilliant maths professor with a peculiar problem - ever since a traumatic head injury some seventeen years ago, he has lived with only eighty minutes of short-term memory. She is a sensitive but astute young housekeeper with a ten-year-old son, who is entrusted to take care of him. Each morning, as the Professor and the Housekeeper are reintroduced to one another, a strange, beautiful relationship blossoms between them. The Professor may not remember what he had for breakfast, but his mind is still alive with elegant equations from the past. He devises clever maths riddles - based on her shoe size or her birthday - and the numbers, in all of their articulate order, reveal a sheltering and poetic world to both the Housekeeper and her little boy. With each new equation, the three lost souls forge an affection more mysterious than imaginary numbers, and a bond that runs deeper than memory. The Housekeeper and the Professoris an enchanting story about what it means to live in the present, and about the curious equations that can create a family where one before did not exist.

Book Synopsis Lifting Up the Senior Spirit by : Janet Mitchell Hisbon
Download or read book Lifting Up the Senior Spirit written by Janet Mitchell Hisbon and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crocus flower/bulb has special meaning for the design cover. It was selected because it is symbolic of the act of lifting the Senior Spirit from the emotional dark, cold, winter season of an older adult's mundane and dull life to give birth to change and the springtime of a new way of life. These beautiful blossoms breaking through the snow and ice represent the inner struggle that one encounters to bloom where they are planted. What is happening to them is not mere happenstance; something larger than them are at work within them. Someone wiser than they are has a word to speak and that word is "Yes" to God's will and His way in their new life. It is also a reminder of the death and resurrection of Jesus from the dark tomb to the newness of life. Jesus rose that we may have life and that we may have it more abundantly. So it is with Older Adults, they rise to a better quality of life and at the same time preserve their dignity.
