Book excerpt: Who is this book for? Anyone with a sense of humor, Believer or not, and believe it or not! For maximizing enjoyment, a Bible is indispensable, being the well-spring of this book. The author has been a licensed preacher for over twenty years, and a Bible teacher for twice that long, has written several other books including six on poetry and two humor-fiction works. His already-documented goal is to write one hundred books or celebrate his one hundredth birthday, whichever comes last. He lives in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, which he claims is a unique home base fueling a self-confessed writing eccentricity, and providing an abundance of fine eateries, ensuring with a few bucks, hell never be in want for good food when the cupboard is bare. Book excerpt: IN these sermons on the times, the reader will discover that I am not entering into the intricacies of interpreting prophecy. Rather, these awful days through which we are passing are viewed in the light of those Scriptures which reveal the broad, general trend of God’s purposes as revealed in His Word. The main burden of the book is God’s call to revival among His people.

Download or read book Three Tiptree Award–Winning Novels written by Eleanor Arnason and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 1478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundbreaking, provocative novels that challenge gender assumptions—in stories of aliens and humans, women and men, and the shifting nature of identity. The James Tiptree, Jr. Award was established to acknowledge works of science fiction or fantasy that expand or explore our understanding of gender. The three novels in this collection each embody that continually evolving challenge in boldly original and highly imaginative ways. A Woman of the Iron People: The inaugural winner of the Tiptree Award in 1991, this “excellent, anthropologically oriented SF tale” (Publishers Weekly) examines the fear and fascination on both sides when a group of human scientists discovers an advanced yet seemingly primitive alien culture. “Fascinating . . . Very wise and funny . . . Full of complicated and irresistible people, some of them human.” —Ursula K. Le Guin Waking the Moon: Nebula Award–winning author Elizabeth Hand serves up a seductive, post-feminist thriller in which a college freshman accidentally discovers the existence of the Benandanti, a clandestine order devoted to suppressing the powerful Moon Goddess and secretly manipulating the world’s governments and institutions. “A potent socio-erotic ghost story.” —William Gibson Larque on the Wing: A middle-aged housewife’s thoughts become reality when her rebellious inner child takes control, and she transforms herself into a fearless gay man. This is a moving, funny, surprising, and transcendent tale of one woman’s unusual quest to come to terms with who she truly is. “Springer effectively uses fantasy to evoke midlife soul-searching. . . . An engrossing novel about gender and self-formation.” —Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: This book is the Bible as translated by John Wycliffe. Also commonly known as Wycliffe's Bible, these Bible translations were the chief inspiration and chief cause of the Lollard movement, a pre-Reformation movement that rejected many of the distinctive teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. In the early Middle Ages, most Western Christian people encountered the Bible only in the form of oral versions of scriptures, verses and homilies in Latin (other sources were mystery plays, usually performed in the vernacular, and popular iconography). Though relatively few people could read at this time, Wycliffe's idea was to translate the Bible into the vernacular, saying "it helpeth Christian men to study the Gospel in that tongue in which they know best Christ's sentence".
