Book excerpt: Identity Protection-The Security of God's Firewall." This book unpacks and decodes the deeper meanings of the apocalyptic symbols of 'Babylon' the 'beast' and the Lamb as they occur in the book of Revelation, particular in the three angels' messages of Revelation 14:6-12. Utilizing the paradigm of 'identity' as our 'internal operating system, ' and the terms of 'malware, ' 'uploading, ' 'downloading, ' and other IT terms, the author exposes the damages of spiritual identity theft in our lives, and shows how the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, can repair all the damages to our identity inflicted by the 'Babylon' and 'beast' viruses--a restoration of our original operating system of the "image of God." The following excerpts from the book powerfully, but simply, illustrate how God diagnoses the sin-disease in our lives and provides His healing, not through do-it-yourself formulas for self-improvement, but through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Damaged identity: your performance plus the applause of others to that identity. Restored identity: believe what God thinks of you. The enemy's malware: the 'Babylon virus' of looking for love in all the wrong places, and the 'beast virus' of do-it-yourself salvation. God's firewall: believe the everlasting gospel and receive credit for the perfect performance of Jesus Christ. Here are some of the benefits of your new identity: You will experience the joys of your new and restored identity based on what God thinks of you. No longer will you be in bondage to the expectations of others. You will experience the freedom of 'coming out of Babylon' by overcoming your addiction to all idols-substitutes for your Savior Jesus Christ. You will discover that the best protection against the 'beast' is the genuine worship of the Lamb. Take full advantage of all the benefits of your new identity in Christ as your download heaven's firewall of identity protection as found in the everlasting gospel. You will learn to detect and overcome the malware of the enemy as found in the 2nd and the 3rd angels' messages. Your responses to the everlasting gospel are-to fear God, give Him glory, and worship Him. When we in worship give God what He is worth, we thereby also discover our own worth. All idols are lesser gods, and those who worship them become the children of such lesser gods. The following intriguing chapter titles will give you more of a taste of the life-changing contents of this book: The Hiding Places of the Beast Singing in the Courtroom Sealed of Marked? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revealing study of the connections between nineteenth-century technological fiction and American religious faith. In Gears and God: Technocratic Fiction, Faith, and Empire in Mark Twain’s America, Nathaniel Williams analyzes the genre of technology-themed exploration novels—dime novel adventure stories featuring steam-powered and electrified robots, airships, and submersibles. This genre proliferated during the same cultural moment when evolutionary science was dismantling Americans’ prevailing, biblically based understanding of human history. While their heyday occurred in the late 1800s, technocratic adventure novels like Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court inspired later fiction about science and technology. Similar to the science fiction plotlines of writers like Jules Verne and H. Rider Haggard, and anticipating the adventures of Tom Swift some decades later, these novels feature Americans using technology to visit and seize control of remote locales, a trait that has led many scholars to view them primarily as protoimperialist narratives. Their legacy, however, is more complicated. As they grew in popularity, such works became as concerned with the preservation of a fraught Anglo-Protestant American identity as they were with spreading that identity across the globe. Many of these novels frequently assert the Bible’s authority as a historical source. Collectively, such stories popularized the notion that technology and travel might essentially “prove” the Bible’s veracity—a message that continues to be deployed in contemporary debates over intelligent design, the teaching of evolution in public schools, and in reality TV shows that seek historical evidence for biblical events. Williams argues that these fictions performed significant cultural work, and he consolidates evidence from the novels themselves, as well as news articles, sermons, and other sources of the era, outlining and mapping the development of technocratic fiction.

This one synthesizes and puts back together things that never should have been separated--while fully recognizing the busyness and endless options of our lives. Trust Kevin Goodrich to be a solid and very creative spiritual guide! Fr. Richard Rohr, O.F.M. Center for Action and Contemplation Albuquerque, New Mexico Canon Goodrich offers in Cell Phone Spirituality a simple, yet not simplistic, primer on the Christian spiritual life. His creative approach applies incarnational theological insights to the circumstances of everyday life. Those interested in promoting the ministry of the laity in the world and the concept of discipleship will find it a useful tool. The Rt. Rev. Michael G. Smith Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota Through Father Goodrich’s eyes, I could see how items such as cell phones that I have found as distractions can be seen as means of connecting us both to each other and to God. Cell Phone Spirituality rings true to me as it offers practical suggestions on how one can talk to God in our 24/7 techno savvy culture. Becky Garrison Senior Contributing Editor, The Wittenburg Door I found Cell Phone Spirituality to be a fun read with a modern twist on how to stay connected to your spirituality and to God, especially in our fast paced world! I really like how Goodrich designed the book to be used for personal growth, or for small group discussions. Can’t wait to share it! Book excerpt: Reality is an investigation of the world around and inside you, seen and unseen. It explores our internal concepts of reality: the real-world reality around us and the role of a supernatural reality; both from the viewpoint of the scientist and the Christian theologian. Reality explores how randomness is the ultimate limit of understanding in science and should be regarded as holy to the theologian. This randomness also extends to how change, over time, comes about and while biological evolution is the special theory of evolution, in fact, everything changes over time via randomness, entropy, and evolution. Science is the best (if flawed because people are imperfect) method to understand the physical world. Theology is the best (if flawed because people are imperfect) method to understand the unseen supernatural reality. Both sides need to observe the firewall that separates them.

These are the essential ingredients of God’s Little Secrets. Inspector Chad Chamberlain of EUROPOL, the European Union’s division of INTERPOL, has been called in to investigate a mysterious find in Notre Dame. But the dismembered bodies found behind a false wall in the old Parisian cathedral are just the start, as more victims start popping up in different parts of Europe, especially in the Vatican. Chad Chamberlain and his sidekick Mohamed Khan go on the trail of the killer. However, it becomes clear that the killings aren’t just random acts of bloodthirsty violence but follow a pattern of scores being settled and a vengeful wrath as if it had come from God himself. A vengeance visited upon those who have indulged in one of the most evil of sins: the sexual abuse of children.

When we stand at that crossroad, what choice will we make? Will it be man’s way or God’s Way? That is the essence of the message of Two Paths. The Lord is pleading with His church to hear what the Spirit is saying in this hour; are we hearing, are we discerning, and are we responding? May the Lord help us to be among those who are not only Called but also Chosen and found Faithful as we navigate through God’s Pathways of Life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many Christians, the concept of spiritual warfare involves scenarios that are often enchanting, extravagant, and even parapsychological. Hard-lined skeptics respond by treating it instead as an archaic and outmoded superstition—a farce. While we might think a simple reading of Scripture will settle the matter, this has not been the case since those writing on the subject are (tacitly) influenced by dubious philosophical commitments and presuppositions left unchecked. This groundbreaking book incorporates philosophical reasoning in formulating for the everyday Christian a robust biblical doctrine of spiritual warfare. It is a serious but readable attempt to understand what spiritual warfare is by addressing both the theological and philosophical issues involved. The Conqueror’s Tread dares to take a reasoned approach to pressing questions such as: •Do supernatural beings really exist? If so, what are they and what can they do? •Are there territorial spirits? •Is exorcism a part of spiritual warfare? •Does spiritual warfare involve speaking aloud, prayerwalking, and breaking curses? •What can evil spirits do to Christians? Can Christians be demon-possessed? •Why would God allow his people to be in a state of conflict with evil spirits? •What is Christian holiness and how do we pursue it? •What role does apologetics have? and many more!

Book excerpt: Imagine having it all: money, celebrity, success. Imagine leaving it all behind -- to answer a higher calling. Sparked by his work with Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment, Mason "Mase" Betha's meteoric rise to fame is one of rap's great success stories. In addition to performing on such hit singles as 112's "Only You," Puffy's "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down," Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money, Mo Problems," and Mariah Carey's "Honey," Mase sky-rocketed as a solo artist whose languid vocal style set him apart. His debut album, Harlem World, went platinum and his next album, Double Up, was eagerly awaited. But just as he was poised to sign a multimillion-dollar deal with Bad Boy, Mase walked away. Mason Betha is now a pastor, inspirational speaker, and founder of a nondenominational group called S.A.N.E. (Saving a Nation Endangered) Ministries. Having turned his back on stardom, he reveals in this fascinating memoir the rhyme and reason behind his choice to leave a glamorous life of extraordinary wealth and influence to become a pastor with a powerful message for America's youth. Thought-provoking and illuminating, Revelations is an undeniable testament to the enduring power of faith -- and to the limitless possibilities in a life transformed by God's guiding hand.

Yet it is our tendency in life to absorb, to take in without distribution resulting in a "souring" of all that is good and a separation from all that is intended. In The Life You Were Born to Give, David McKinley helps readers shift their focus from getting all they can out of life to giving their lives away, for Christ. Guiding them through the book of Romans, the transformational message includes: A Life Delivered (Romans 1-11) A Life Devoted (Romans 12: 1-2) A Life Distributed (Romans 12-16) "Recommended for readers looking for a basic approach to spiritual growth." -Don Morgan, Aspiring Retail
