Download or read book Allosteric Enzymes written by Guy Herve and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compiles detailed information concerning a dozen of the best known allosteric enzymes, and so allows the comparison of their regulatory mechanisms and the confrontation of these mechanisms with the theoretical models. Stimulating and unexpected ideas emerge from these comparisons and emphasize the importance of developing various methods of investigation such as crystallography, X-ray solution scattering, and the study of fast movements in proteins and site-directed mutagenesis. This book is addressed to students and researchers interested in structure-function relationship in proteins, enzymology and metabolic regulation. It is also a basis for teaching.
Book Synopsis Glycogen Phosphorylase B by : K. R. Acharya
Download or read book Glycogen Phosphorylase B written by K. R. Acharya and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes the determination by X-ray methods and the structural analysis of one of the largest single polypeptide chain proteins, glycogen phosphorylase. It is shown that the large protein conforms to the rules deduced from smaller protein molecules and provides examples of almost every structural feature. The structure is analysed with special reference to the hydrogen bonding pattern of secondary structural elements, the distributions and interactions of the buried amino acids, the role of the water structure and the details of the subunit interface of the dimer. The results show some unusual secondary structural elements and environments for some side chain atoms. As methods for prediction of protein structures from amino acid sequences advance from assignments of secondary structural elements to predicted tertiary assemblies, knowledge of the preferred and exceptional detailed interactions of the amino acid side chains will need to be incorporated. Glycogen phosphorylase provides a wealth of examples of these interactions. This monograph is a useful reference on protein structure and function.

Book Synopsis Cells: Molecules and Mechanisms by : Eric Wong
Download or read book Cells: Molecules and Mechanisms written by Eric Wong and published by Axolotl Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Yet another cell and molecular biology book? At the very least, you would think that if I was going to write a textbook, I should write one in an area that really needs one instead of a subject that already has multiple excellent and definitive books. So, why write this book, then? First, it's a course that I have enjoyed teaching for many years, so I am very familiar with what a student really needs to take away from this class within the time constraints of a semester. Second, because it is a course that many students take, there is a greater opportunity to make an impact on more students' pocketbooks than if I were to start off writing a book for a highly specialized upper- level course. And finally, it was fun to research and write, and can be revised easily for inclusion as part of our next textbook, High School Biology."--Open Textbook Library.

Book Synopsis The Heterogeneity of Cancer Metabolism by : Anne Le
Download or read book The Heterogeneity of Cancer Metabolism written by Anne Le and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetic alterations in cancer, in addition to being the fundamental drivers of tumorigenesis, can give rise to a variety of metabolic adaptations that allow cancer cells to survive and proliferate in diverse tumor microenvironments. This metabolic flexibility is different from normal cellular metabolic processes and leads to heterogeneity in cancer metabolism within the same cancer type or even within the same tumor. In this book, we delve into the complexity and diversity of cancer metabolism, and highlight how understanding the heterogeneity of cancer metabolism is fundamental to the development of effective metabolism-based therapeutic strategies. Deciphering how cancer cells utilize various nutrient resources will enable clinicians and researchers to pair specific chemotherapeutic agents with patients who are most likely to respond with positive outcomes, allowing for more cost-effective and personalized cancer therapeutic strategies.
