Book Synopsis Economic and financial crisis from 2008 to ...? by : Clemente Maria Apollonj Ghetti
Download or read book Economic and financial crisis from 2008 to ...? written by Clemente Maria Apollonj Ghetti and published by Gangemi Editore spa. This book was released on 2015-06-12T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of the study is dedicated to the US economy from the end of the Second World War to the present time; similarities and differences between the crisis of 1929 and the current one are examined. The second part is dedicated to Italy and Europe and, first of all, to the Euro. Advantages and disadvantages of the new currency are debated. As far as Italy is concerned, since the advent of the Euro, it has experienced a long period of stagnation. The new currency is for sure at least part of the problem. At the end of the study, three possible solutions to the crisis situation are examined in decreasing order of preference. The first is the reform of the Euro and of the European Central Bank which should have the same powers as every other central bank. The second would see Italy and, perhaps, other countries, leave the Euro. The last and the most disadvantageous would be to play along with Germany and adopt drastic economic measures to create trade surpluses at the expense of some countries. Clemente M. Apollonj Ghetti was born in Rome on the 27th June 1998. He attended Italian primary schools in Rome, from 2004 till 2013, while he became self-taught in economics. When he was just 15 years old, he wrote this book during the summer. In November 2013 he presented applications and was admitted to Downside School, one of England’s oldest and most distinguished schools. He started attending in the present academic year 2014-2015 the lower sixth form. At the Prize Day of May 2015, at the end of the school year, he has won the prize for Economics.
Book Synopsis World Development Report 2019 by : World Bank
Download or read book World Development Report 2019 written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work is constantly reshaped by technological progress. New ways of production are adopted, markets expand, and societies evolve. But some changes provoke more attention than others, in part due to the vast uncertainty involved in making predictions about the future. The 2019 World Development Report will study how the nature of work is changing as a result of advances in technology today. Technological progress disrupts existing systems. A new social contract is needed to smooth the transition and guard against rising inequality. Significant investments in human capital throughout a person’s lifecycle are vital to this effort. If workers are to stay competitive against machines they need to train or retool existing skills. A social protection system that includes a minimum basic level of protection for workers and citizens can complement new forms of employment. Improved private sector policies to encourage startup activity and competition can help countries compete in the digital age. Governments also need to ensure that firms pay their fair share of taxes, in part to fund this new social contract. The 2019 World Development Report presents an analysis of these issues based upon the available evidence.

Book Synopsis The Sociology of Debt by : Featherstone, Mark
Download or read book The Sociology of Debt written by Featherstone, Mark and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of the last ten years the issue of debt has become a serious problem that threatens to destroy the global socio-economic system and ruin the everyday lives of millions of people. This collection brings together a range of perspectives of key thinkers on debt to provide a sociological analysis focused upon the social, political, economic, and cultural meanings of indebtedness. The contributors to the book consider both the lived experience of debt and the more abstract processes of financialisation taking place globally. Showing how debt functions on the level of both macro- and microeconomics, the book also provides a more holistic perspective, with accounts that span sociological, cultural, and economic forms of analysis.

Book Synopsis Global Imperialism and the Great Crisis by : Ernesto Screpanti
Download or read book Global Imperialism and the Great Crisis written by Ernesto Screpanti and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this provocative study, economist Ernesto Screpanti argues that imperialismOCofar from disappearing or mutating into a benign OC globalizationOCOOCohas in fact entered a new phase, which he terms OC global imperialism.OCO This is a phase defined by multinational firms cut loose from the nation-state framework and free to chase profits over the entire surface of the globe. No longer dependent on nation-states for building a political consensus that accommodates capital accumulation, these firms seek to bend governments to their will and destroy barriers to the free movement of capital. And while military force continues to play an important role in imperial strategy, it is the discipline of the global market that keeps workers in check by pitting them against each other no matter what their national origin. This is a world in which the so-called OC labor aristocraciesOCO of the rich nations are demolished, the power of states to enforce checks on capital is sapped, and global firms are free to pursue their monomaniacal quest for profits unfettered by national allegiance. Screpanti delves into the inner workings of global imperialism, explaining how it is different from past forms of imperialism, how the global distribution of wages is changing, and why multinational firms have strained to break free of national markets. He sees global imperialism as a developing process, one with no certain outcome. But one thing is clear: when economic crises become opportunities to discipline workers, and when economic policies are imposed through increasingly authoritarian measures, the vision of a democratic and humane world is what is ultimately at stake."
Book Synopsis The Boundaries of Europe by : Pietro Rossi
Download or read book The Boundaries of Europe written by Pietro Rossi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Europe’s boundaries have mainly been shaped by cultural, religious, and political conceptions rather than by geography. This volume of bilingual essays from renowned European scholars outlines the transformation of Europe’s boundaries from the fall of the ancient world to the age of decolonization, or the end of the explicit endeavor to “Europeanize” the world. From the decline of the Roman Empire to the polycentrism of today’s world, the essays span such aspects as the confrontation of Christian Europe with Islam and the changing role of the Mediterranean from “mare nostrum” to a frontier between nations. Scandinavia, eastern Europe and the Atlantic are also analyzed as boundaries in the context of exploration, migratory movements, cultural exchanges, and war. The Boundaries of Europe, edited by Pietro Rossi, is the first installment in the ALLEA book series Discourses on Intellectual Europe, which seeks to explore the question of an intrinsic or quintessential European identity in light of the rising skepticism towards Europe as an integrated cultural and intellectual region.
Download or read book Capitalist Realism written by Mark Fisher and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11-27 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 1989, capitalism has successfully presented itself as the only realistic political-economic system - a situation that the bank crisis of 2008, far from ending, actually compounded. The book analyses the development and principal features of this capitalist realism as a lived ideological framework. Using examples from politics, films, fiction, work and education, it argues that capitalist realism colours all areas of contemporary experience. But it will also show that, because of a number of inconsistencies and glitches internal to the capitalist reality program capitalism in fact is anything but realistic.

Book Synopsis Le Ragioni dell ‘ Essere by : Dr. Gennaro Di Fazio
Download or read book Le Ragioni dell ‘ Essere written by Dr. Gennaro Di Fazio and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Lessons of the Financial Crisis by : Benn Steil
Download or read book Lessons of the Financial Crisis written by Benn Steil and published by Council on Foreign Relations. This book was released on 2009 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current financial and economic crisis is a classic bust of a credit boom, the boom having been fueled by policies whose combined effects were to increase the demand for debt to unsustainable levels. U.S. monetary policy, taxation policy, and home ownership promotion policy were so conducive to credit expansion that the idea, understandably popular in Washington and Brussels, that preventing future such crises can be accomplished simply by waking up regulators "asleep at the switch" is dangerously simplistic. The United States in particular, given that it effectively sets monetary and credit conditions for a significant portion of the global economy, needs to put in place policies that can better discourage, recognize, and curtail a credit boom, and ensure that systemically important financial institutions can withstand its unwinding.
Book Synopsis Can We Avoid Another Financial Crisis? by : Steve Keen
Download or read book Can We Avoid Another Financial Crisis? written by Steve Keen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Financial Crash had cataclysmic effects on the global economy, and took conventional economists completely by surprise. Many leading commentators declared shortly before the crisis that the magical recipe for eternal stability had been found. Less than a year later, the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression erupted. In this explosive book, Steve Keen, one of the very few economists who anticipated the crash, shows why the self-declared experts were wrong and how ever–rising levels of private debt make another financial crisis almost inevitable unless politicians tackle the real dynamics causing financial instability. He also identifies the economies that have become 'The Walking Dead of Debt', and those that are next in line – including Australia, Belgium, China, Canada and South Korea. A major intervention by a fearlessly iconoclastic figure, this book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the true nature of the global economic system.
