This can be seen both in the limited pedagogical quality and lack of portability of e-learning content, and in the lack of user-friendly tools to exploit the opportunities offered by current technologies. Jahrhunderts ist der Ursprung dieses Begriffs in der Forstwirtschaft zu finden. im Laufe der Zeit hat sich die regulative Idee der nachhaltigen Entwicklung in immer unterschiedlicheren und abstrakter werdenden Dimensionen durchgesetzt. Um eine Entwicklung im Interesse künftiger Generationen und globaler Gerechtigkeit in einer „[...] sich dynamisch verändernden Welt ökologisch, ökonomisch und sozial ausgewogen zu gestalten [...]“ muss global gedacht werden, und möglichst viele Menschen müssen qualifiziert werden, sich an Entscheidungsprozessen zu beteiligen. Aus diesem Grund ist Bildung ein wesentlicher Teil des Nachhaltigkeitsprozesses, der in der Agenda 21 als eine unerlässliche Voraussetzung für die Förderung einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung beschrieben wird. Das Bildungskonzept „Bildung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung“ (BNE) wurde daher entwickelt, um Inhalte in die Lehrpläne einzubeziehen, die die Schüler zu einer aktiven Gestaltung der Zukunft befähigen. Die hieraus entstandenen Programme und Konzepte lassen jedoch häufig keine Potenziale für eine Berufsbildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung ableiten (z.B. BLK-Programm 21 / Transfer 21). „Der programmatische Diskurs über eine Berufsbildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung intensiviert [...]“ sich sehr langsam, wobei in der Praxis noch „relativ wenige Ansätze einer nachhaltigen Bildungsarbeit zu finden“ sind. Auf Grund dieser mangelhaften Einbeziehung der beruflichen Bildung in den Prozess der nachhaltigen Entwicklung sowie der grundlegenden Frage, ob es berufliche Bildung vermag zu bilden oder ob sie nur Inhalte vermittelt, sollen in der folgenden Arbeit diese beiden Aspekte zusammengenommen werden. Es soll die Frage bearbeitet werden, ob berufliche Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung bildet. Zuerst sollen die verschiedenen bildungstheoretischen Vorstellungen dargestellt werden, um eine Idee der unterschiedlichen Auffassungen bezüglich des Begriffs „Bildung“ und dessen Bedeutung zu erhalten. Im Anschluss werden der Stellenwert des Berufs erörtert sowie die Kerngedanken der Berufsbildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung dargestellt. Abschließend wird erläutert, an welche Bildungsvorstellungen angeknüpft werden kann, wenn die Idee der nachhaltigen Entwicklung in der beruflichen Bildung berücksichtigt werden soll.
