Book excerpt: Already in its sixth year of existence, this Documentary Yearbook provides you with the only independent collection of documents related to ocean affairs & the law of the sea, issued each year by international organizations. The Yearbook is arranged systematically & thereby gives the community of scholars & practitioners in ocean affairs & the law of the sea much improved access to essential documentation. Like the previous volumes, the 1990 volume focuses on the United Nations family of international organizations & on several non-UN intergovernmental organizations of developing states. The most important documents which were issued in the course of 1990 are reproduced (in whole or in part), while other relevant documents are listed. An extensive index of Keywords facilitates access by the reader to the complex & often interrelated matters dealt with by various organizations as well as to the information concerning individual states, regions & international instruments.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Climate Theory by : Serguei G. Dobrovolski
Download or read book Stochastic Climate Theory written by Serguei G. Dobrovolski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author describes the stochastic (probabilistic) approach to the study of changes in the climate system. Climatic data and theoretical considerations suggest that a large part of climatic variation/variability has a random nature and can be analyzed using the theory of stochastic processes. This work summarizes the results of processing existing records of climatic parameters as well as appropriate theories: from the theory of random processes (based on the results of Kolmogorov and Yaglom) and Hasselmann's "stochastic climate model theory" to recently obtained results.
Book Synopsis Applications of Geodesy to Engineering by : Klaus Linkwitz
Download or read book Applications of Geodesy to Engineering written by Klaus Linkwitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accuracy requirements of fractions of a millimeter for the positioning of beam-guiding magnets in synchrotons, monitor- ing of speedy sub-seatunnelling with lengths exceeding 25 km, the construction of extremely long bridges of suspension or "cast-and push"-type, but also geometrical industrial quality control and robot calibration in real time, and even the analysis of prestressed cable nets, are few examples of thechallenging new tasks demanding responses from the modern engineering-geodesist. In this volume, a general view of Engineering Geologyis presented, its state of the art and up-to-date information about recent scientific tasks, aims and methods. The contributions focus on Theoretical Aspects, Techniques of Measurements, Techniques of Data Processing and Computing, Reports About Selected Executed Projects, Special Tasks, e.g. Realtime Positioning and Navigation, Industrial Managements,Image Processing. But also the role of geo- desists in collaboration with civil and mechanical engineers, technical designers and architects is outlined. As a reference book, this volume will be useful for researchers, students and practitioners in Engineering Geodesy and neighbouring disciplines.

This book was released on 2022-04-30 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for assessing the science related to climate change. It provides policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of human-induced climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation. This IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate is the most comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the observed and projected changes to the ocean and cryosphere and their associated impacts and risks, with a focus on resilience, risk management response options, and adaptation measures, considering both their potential and limitations. It brings together knowledge on physical and biogeochemical changes, the interplay with ecosystem changes, and the implications for human communities. It serves policymakers, decision makers, stakeholders, and all interested parties with unbiased, up-to-date, policy-relevant information. Book Synopsis Learning to Predict Climate Variations Associated with El Nino and the Southern Oscillation by : National Research Council
Download or read book Learning to Predict Climate Variations Associated with El Nino and the Southern Oscillation written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-12-12 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The TOGA (Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere) Program was designed to study short-term climate variations. A 10-year international program, TOGA made El Nino a household word. This book chronicles the cooperative efforts of oceanographers and meteorologists, several U.S. government agencies, many other nations, and international scientific organizations to study El Nino and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO). It describes the progression from being unable to detect the development of large climate variations to being able to make and use rudimentary climate predictions, especially for some tropical countries. It examines the development of the TOGA Program, evaluates its accomplishments, describes U.S. participation in the program, and makes general recommendations for developing better understanding and predictions of climate variations on seasonal to interannual time scales.
