Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can schools create safe, well-supervised classroom environments while also teaching students skills for managing their behavior on their own? This invaluable guide presents a framework for achieving both of these crucial goals. It shows how to balance external reinforcements such as positive behavior supports with social-emotional learning interventions. Evidence-based techniques are provided for targeting the cognitive and emotional processes that underlie self-discipline, both in classroom instruction and when correcting problem behavior. Describing how to weave the techniques together into a comprehensive schoolwide disciplinary approach, the book includes over a dozen reproducible forms, checklists, and assessment tools. The large-size format facilitates photocopying. This book is in The Guilford Practical Intervention in the Schools Series, edited by Sandra M. Chafouleas.

This volume provides up-to-date summaries of research on the essential topics from the first edition, as well as fresh perspectives and chapters on new topics. It is the perfect tool for both graduate students and practitioners interested in a field that is fascinating but not immediately accessible without the proper guidance.
Book Synopsis Discipline with Dignity by : Richard L. Curwin
Download or read book Discipline with Dignity written by Richard L. Curwin and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2008 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discipline with Dignity details an affirming approach to managing the classroom that promotes respect for self and others. This completely updated 3rd edition offers practical solutions that emphasize relationship building, curriculum relevance, and academic success. The emphasis is on preventing problems by helping students to understand each other, work well together, and develop responsibility for their own actions, but the authors also include intervention strategies for handling common and severe problems in dignified ways. Filled with real-life examples and authentic teacher-student dialogues, Discipline with Dignity is a comprehensive and flexible system of prevention and intervention tools that shows how educators at all levels can *Be fair without necessarily treating every student the same way. *Customize the classroom to reflect today's highly diverse and inclusive student population. *Seek students' help in creating values-based rules and appropriate consequences. *Use humor appropriately and effectively to respond to abusive language. *Fine-tune strategies to resolve issues with chronically misbehaving students and "ringleaders" or bullies. This book is not simply a compendium of strategies for dealing with bad behavior. It is a guide to helping students see themselves in a different way, to changing the way they interact with the world. The strategies innate to this approach help students make informed choices to behave well. When they do, they become more attuned to learning and to understanding how to use what they learn to improve their lives and the lives of others--with dignity.

Book Synopsis Advancing Research on Teachers' Professional Vision: Implementing novel Technologies, Methods and Theories by : Christian Kosel
Download or read book Advancing Research on Teachers' Professional Vision: Implementing novel Technologies, Methods and Theories written by Christian Kosel and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-25 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classroom full of students can be overwhelming for teachers. It is critical that teachers are able to filter and meaningfully interpret the relevant information in this complex scenario. Much of this filtering and interpretation occurs through selective visual perception. Over the last decade, a rapidly growing number of studies in empirical educational research used eye tracking to investigate teachers' selective visual perceptual processes in the classroom. Theoretically, visual attention and perception are often conceptualized as knowledge-based noticing coupled with knowledge-based reasoning about what is visually perceived. Recent eye-tracking studies have shown that experienced teachers, in particular, show improved selective attention of classroom events through faster detection of relevant information and improved monitoring of learning-relevant situations. Researchers agree that a critical driver of selective attention processes is the professional knowledge (declarative, procedural, and metacognitive) of (experienced) teachers, which controls selective perceptual processes in a top-down process. The findings are significant and provide important insights for research on teacher professionalization.

This book was released on 2013-03-23 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
