Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field equipment of the German Army in World War II was closely related to that used throughout World War I and earlier, yet it was of relatively light weight, ruggedly constructed, well designed, functional, and generally of a high quality, though this deteriorated in the later war years. A high degree of design standardisation was maintained in most categories of equipment, though materials and their colours often varied widely. There were also many different specialisations for the various arms of service as well as theatres of combat, such as the Afrikakorps in the Western Desert. This title investigates all manner of German combat equipments throughout World War II, from belt buckles to magazine pouches.

Book excerpt: A prime source for all who need information regarding German AFVs in the Second World War. The issue of this publication, two years after the end of the war in Europe, was designed to put on record essential information on the armament of the German Land Forces during the war. It includes some of the more interesting equipment that was developed, but which, due to the conclusion of hostilities, or to production difficulties, did not come into general service. This publication, laid down in the form of a reference album, is primarily a photographic record, supported by specifications, and in some instances a short description. The material was drawn from the large collection of matter compiled by the Technical Intelligence Services during and subsequent to WW2. Much of it appeared in various Technical Intelligence Summaries and Bulletins, issued by the War Office and by GHQs overseas, supplemented by photographs and details added from German sources after the collapse of Germany. It should be noted that all figures quoted are taken from German sources. It is appreciated that in many instances these differ from the figures quoted in contemporary official British and American sources.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merriam Press Military Monograph 240 (High Quality Edition: Printed on quality paper for better reproduction of photos). Seventh Edition (December 2011). This is a newly-produced reprint of a mimeographed report by Maj. Gen. Isaac D. White, Commanding General, 2nd Armored Division, produced in March 1945 for General Eisenhower at his request after he had seen accounts attributed to armored forces GIs who considered American tanks very inferior in quality to those of the Germans. As an aside he also requested comparisons in other types of equipment such as half-tracks, light tanks, trucks, guns, bazookas, and even clothing and rations. The resulting report includes General White's own opinions, plus the opinions of over 150 officers and enlisted men. There is also a report on the characteristics of the German Mark V tank. The reading of this report will be a significant "eye-opener" for every World War II historian, wargamer, model builder, and buff. In reading this report, you'll wonder how we managed to win the war in Europe at all, with such a mediocre tank as the Sherman. This is one of the most fascinating reports you will ever read. Contents: Introduction; Digest of Opinions of Tank Officers and Crews of 66th and 67th Armored Regiments; Comparison of United States Equipment with Similar German Equipment; Personal Convictions of Individual Officers and Enlisted Men of the 2nd Armored Division as to Comparison of German versus American Armor and Equipment; Characteristics of the German Mark V Tank. 63 photos, 2 illustrations, 1 table.

Book excerpt: This three-volume set provides the reader with an insight into the wide range of uniforms, weapons and field equipment used by the Imperial German Army during the First World War. The devastating and dramatic character of the war required many innovations in military clothing and equipment. New uniforms and adequate protection was a must, and steel helmets appeared on the battlefield, replacing the outdated spiked helmets. Even medieval-looking items, like steel breastplates and trench clubs, were produced, giving the soldiers a fearful appearance. The threat of poison gas caused the immediate development of gas masks. It was also the time of the tank, observation balloons, mine warfare, the Zeppelin, airplanes, flame-throwers, deadly machine guns, and other war machinery that saw service, sometimes for the first time. Using over 1,000 color and period photographs from private collections and museums, the author succeeds in showing a broad range of artifacts, together with full and to the point descriptions. This series is aimed towards the novice or advanced German World War I collector and enthusiast, military history student, modeller, researcher and re-enactor.

Book excerpt: German artillery has been a subject of study for many years, but it is rare to find the original source material for such studies. These two pamphlets were issued in 1948 and include all known operational German artillery of the Second World War. In the two volumes are no fewer than 198 plates of the guns and their ammunition, and appendices, charts and tables give every detail of the weapons that was available, even to German gunners. The books are introduced with a history of the development of German artillery, and then follow a standard layout. The guns are covered in the following order: (Part 1) antitank artillery, infantry guns, recoilless guns, Field Artillery, Medium Artillery, Heavy and super-Heavy Artillery, (Part 2) light Flak, Medium Flak, Heavy Flak, Coast Defence Artillery and Railway Artillery. Among the guns covered are the 8.8cm antitank guns, 10.5 and 15 cm field guns, the 42cm Gamma Mortar, the four-barreled Flakvierling (so feared by Allied ground attack pilots), 8.8cm Flak guns, the 15 and 24cm heavy Flak designs and the super-heavy Siegfried , Adolf, Bruno and the 80 cm Kanone E. Many books cover this subject, but none to greater detail, nor with the wealth of illustrations that make these books a prime source for all who need information of German artillery in the Second World War.

In the mobile warfare of the 20th century no army could keep its vital supply routes open without the military policeman. This book documents the organisation, uniforms and insignia of the many and varied German military police units of World War II. Their duties included traffic control; maintaining military order and discipline; collection and escorting prisoners of war; prevention of looting; disarming civilians; checking captured enemy soldiers for documents; collection of fallen enemy propaganda leaflets and providing street patrols in occupied areas.
