Book Synopsis Evaluation of the Geothermal Potential of the Snake River Plain, Idaho, Based on Three Exploration Holes by : Thomas G. Freeman
Download or read book Evaluation of the Geothermal Potential of the Snake River Plain, Idaho, Based on Three Exploration Holes written by Thomas G. Freeman and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work in this thesis was based on analyzing water samples collected from three exploratory boreholes drilled during Project Hotspot. The water samples were analyzed for their chemical properties. The chemical properties of the water samples were used as a basis for further analysis. Geophysical logs, mainly temperature logs, were also analyzed for this project. Temperature logs measure temperature in relation to depth within a borehole. All the analyses were made in order to estimate the geothermal potential of the project areas. The exploratory boreholes were all drilled in different areas and each had unique characteristics. The Mountain Home borehole provided the most promising evidence for future geothermal potential. Geothermal energy is a form of renewable energy and potential production areas are difficult and expensive to locate.

Book excerpt: Detailed site specific data regarding the commercialization potential of the proven, potential, and inferred geothermal resource areas in Idaho are presented. To assess the potential for geothermal resource development in Idaho, several kinds of data were obtained. These include information regarding institutional procedures for geothermal development, logistical procedures for utilization, energy needs and forecasted demands, and resource data. Area reports, data sheets, and scenarios were prepared that described possible geothermal development at individual sites. In preparing development projections, the objective was to base them on actual market potential, forecasted growth, and known or inferred resource conditions. To the extent possible, power-on-line dates and energy utilization estimates are realistic projections of the first events. Commercialization projections were based on the assumption that an aggressive development program will prove sufficient known and inferred resources to accomplish the projected event. This report is an estimate of probable energy developable under an aggressive exploration program and is considered extremely conservative. (MHR).

Download or read book Geology and Geothermal Resources of the Rexburg Area, Eastern Idaho written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief description of major Cenozoic geologic features of the Rexburg area and a discussion of their geothermal significance are presented. The study area, identified as having geothermal potential, is approximately circular, about 55 km across, and centered on the town of Rexburg. It is roughly coextensive with a complex of about eight calderas of Pliocene age, here named the Rexburg caldera complex. These calderas were the source of several major rhyolitic volcanic deposits present along the southeast margin of the eastern Snake River Plain. The geology of this area was previously mapped in reconnaissance (Prostka and Hackman, 1974) and much of it as remapped in detail in 1977 because of its recognized geothermal potential.
Book Synopsis Geothermal Investigations in Idaho. Part 8. Heat Flow Study of the Snake River Plain Region, Idaho by :
Download or read book Geothermal Investigations in Idaho. Part 8. Heat Flow Study of the Snake River Plain Region, Idaho written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Snake River Plain of Idaho has recent lava flows and a large number of thermal springs and wells. A heat flow study was initiated which, together with available geological and geophysical information, allows a better definition of the geothermal resource and evaluation of the geothermal potential. Local geothermal anomalies were not the objects of this study and have not been studied in detail. The quality of the heat flow values obtained varies as interpretation was necessary to determine geothermal gradients for many of the holes which had disturbances. A major problem in determining the heat flow values is the lack of knowledge of the in situ porosity of the rocks. The heat flow values obtained for the Eastern Snake River Plain are from shallow wells (
