Book Synopsis Safety Aspects of Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Safety Aspects of Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations are the link between plant structures and subsoil. Information on the geology and subsurface characteristics of the site is an input for the design. Without proper adaptation of the design to the subsurface situation, safety may be impaired. This guide addresses the mechanical characteristics of different subsurface materials.

Book Synopsis Seismic Hazards in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations by : IAEA
Download or read book Seismic Hazards in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Guide supersedes the 2010 edition of IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSG-9. It takes account of recently gained knowledge and practices developed by Member States related to seismic hazards, especially lessons from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. It also addresses concomitant events associated with earthquakes, such as tsunamis. The revision provides a clearer separation between the process for assessing the seismic hazards at a specific nuclear installation site and the process for defining the related basis for design and safety assessment of the nuclear installation. Thus, it bridges gaps and avoids undue overlap of the two processes, which correspond to and are performed at different stages of siting of the nuclear installation.
Book Synopsis Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants by :
Download or read book Proposed Guidelines for Site Investigations for Foundations of Nuclear Power Plants written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Site investigations for nuclear power plants are necessary to determine the geotechnical conditions that affect the design, cost, performance, and safety of the plants. Major considerations for analysis and design include the bearing capacity of foundation materials, the total and differential settlements of structures under static and earthquake loading conditions, the stability of cuts and slopes in soil and rock under static and earthquake loading conditions, the propagation of earthquake-induced motions through underlying deposits, and the potential for liquefaction of soils. The stability of foundations during construction must also be assured. The purpose of the proposed guidelines is to describe programs of geological and engineering site investigations that would be adequate to evaluate the safety of the site and to provide the parameters needed for engineering analysis and design of foundations and earthworks. General requirements for site investigations are discussed. Methods of subsurface investigation, including their applicability, limitations, and pitfalls, and described. Proposed rules for spacing and depth of subsurface exploration for various kinds of seismic Category I structures are given. (Author).
Book Synopsis Seismic Design and Qualification for Nuclear Power Plants by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Seismic Design and Qualification for Nuclear Power Plants written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Guide provides recommendations on a generally accepted way to design a nuclear power plant so that an earthquake motion at the site will not jeopardize the safety of the plant. It also gives guidance on a consistent application of methods and procedures for analysis, testing and qualification of structures and equipment so that they meet the safety requirements covering the design of nuclear power plants, safety assessments for the design and the regulatory issues concerned with the licensing of plants.

Book Synopsis Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations by :
Download or read book Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This publication establishes requirements and provides criteria for ensuring safety in site evaluation for nuclear installations. The Safety Guides on site evaluation listed in the references section provide recommendations on how to meet the requirements established in this publication. A review of Safety Requirements publications was commenced in 2011 following the accident in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. The review revealed no significant areas of weakness and resulted in just a small set of amendments to strengthen the requirements and facilitate their implementation, which are contained in the present publication."--Publisher's description.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Guide provides recommendations regarding the criteria and methodologies to be used for seismic safety evaluation of existing nuclear installations, including installations whose purpose and associated radiological risks have changed, installations where longer term operation is under consideration and installations where comprehensive seismic safety reassessments have become necessary. Two methodologies are discussed in detail: deterministic seismic margin assessment (SMA) and seismic probabilistic safety assessment (SPSA).
