Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to a monumental and superbly illuminated very large early fourteenth-century Mamluk Qur'an in muhaqqaq script. It constitutes the final part (Juz' 30) of a superb two-volume Qur'an of which the first volume is preserved in the National Museum in Damascus while the second volume, from which the present section originates, is widely dispersed. Remarkably, here the final part of the Qur'an is reunited with its magnificent and richly decorated double finispieces, thus reassembling what must have been among the most striking and lavishly illuminated sections of the entire manuscript. The high degree of inventiveness along with the overall quality of the manuscript point to the work of a master artist. Especially the geometric proficiency suggests the work of Muhammad ibn Mubadir, one of the leading illuminators in Mamluk Cairo at the turn of the thirteenth century. Although little is known of the life of this artist, his illumination in the Baybars al-Jashnagir Qur'an, now in the British Library, and a Qur'an copied in 1306-10 for an unknown patron, now in the Chester Beatty Library, constitute some of the most celebrated achievements of Mamluk Qur'an illumination.

Book Synopsis The Interesting Golden Ratio by : Vincent Siu
Download or read book The Interesting Golden Ratio written by Vincent Siu and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2016-02-11 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses simple geometry, trigonometry and algebra to explain how to construct and calculate the golden ratio. Starting from Euclids propositions in The Elements, the golden ratio and its related geometry such as the pentagon, pentagram and Vesica Piscis are constructed and determined graphically. Then the value of the ratio is solved by quadratic equations, and depending on the initial assumptions, two values are found. It is proposed that the ratio can be obtained easily by applying the Pythagoras theorem. Common terms like golden triangle, golden rhombus, golden spiral and golden angle are deduced and explained. The connections between the golden ratio and Fibonacci numbers, continued fractions, fractals, chaos and tiling are also introduced. The conclusion is that it is mathematics and not the golden ratio that is fascinating.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a great deal of geometry regarding the golden section, including some discoveries of my own. It, also, contains some history of the golden section, as it was used in the art and architecture of the classical civilizations of Egypt and Greece. The golden section was used extensively in the art and architecture, during the classical civilizations of Egypt and Greece, and to some extent, later, in Europe. Its geometric basis can be found in the proportions of the bones of the human body, and of other animals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What exactly is the Golden Ratio? How was it discovered? Where is it found? These questions and more are thoroughly explained in this engaging tour of one of mathematics' most interesting phenomena. The authors trace the appearance of the Golden Ratio throughout history, demonstrate a variety of ingenious techniques used to construct it, and illustrate the many surprising geometric figures in which the Golden Ratio is embedded. Requiring no more than an elementary knowledge of geometry and algebra, the authors give readers a new appreciation of the indispensable qualities and inherent beauty of mathematics.

Book excerpt: For centuries mathematicians, artists, scientists, and architects have been fascinated by the Golden Section - a ration (approximately 1:1.618) with remarkable mathematical properties. Now your students will be, too. The Golden Section offers a carefully-designed sequence of geometry and algebra problems that illuminate the ratio and its many applications. -- from back cover.

Book excerpt: What was the golden secret known to Leonardo da Vinci, Kepler, Plato and the ancient magicians? Can there really be a key to nature and life itself? In this small but compact volume internationally renowned divine proportion supersleuth Dr Olsen unravels perhaps the greatest mystery of all time, a code that seems to underly life, the universe and everything, a pattern we instinctively recognise as beautiful, and which nature herself uses at every scale. Designed for artists and scientists alike, this is the smallest, densest and most beautiful book on the golden section ever produced. WOODEN BOOKS are small but packed with information. This book was released on 2015-08-21 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers new sensational information on the realization of rules of the geometry of Minkovskiy in nature. It has been done for the first time after Herman Minkovskiy published his geometrical interpretation of the special theory of relativity one hundred years ago. The author investigates its realization in nature, namely in the growth mechanism of spiro-symmetrical (the so called phylotaxis) plant forms. A detailed mathematical decoding of this mechanism unexpectedly reveals the involvement of golden section - a magic number, with which the history of science and art have always associated the idea of harmony and perfection. The book contains historical information on the development of geometric ideas in science and art, on the evolution of spatial conceptions, their peculiarities and their role in the scientific outlook of the 20th century. The process of the change of spatial conception and, accordingly, of methodological approaches in the architecture and design of the 20th century are regarded from special "geometric" positions.
