Book Synopsis Le spectre des surfaces hyperboliques by : Nicolas Bergeron
Download or read book Le spectre des surfaces hyperboliques written by Nicolas Bergeron and published by Harlequin. This book was released on 2011 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is an introduction to the spectral theory of the Laplacian on compact or finite area hyperbolic surfaces. For some of these surfaces, called ĺlarithmetic hyperbolic surfacesĺl, the eigenfunctions are of arithmetic nature, and one may use analytic tools as well as powerful methods in number theory to study them. After an introduction to the hyperbolic geometry of surfaces, with a special emphasis on those of arithmetic type, and then an introduction to spectral analytic methods on the Laplace operator on these surfaces, the author develops the analogy between geometry (closed geodesics) and arithmetic (prime numbers) in proving the Selberg trace formula. Along with important number theoretic applications, the author exhibits applications of these tools to the spectral statistics of the Laplacian and the quantum unique ergodicity property. The latter refers to the arithmetic quantum unique ergodicity theorem, recently proved by Elon Lindenstrauss. The fruit of several graduate level courses at Orsay and Jussieu, The Spectrum of Hyperbolic Surfaces allows the reader to review an array of classical results and then to be led towards very active areas in modern mathematics.

Book Synopsis Zeta Functions in Geometry by : Kurokawa N. (Nobushige)
Download or read book Zeta Functions in Geometry written by Kurokawa N. (Nobushige) and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains accounts of work presented during the research conference, ``Zeta Functions in Geometry,'' held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in August 1990. The aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity for the discussion of recent results by geometers and number theorists on zeta functions in several different categories. The exchange of ideas produced new insights on various geometric zeta functions, as well as the classical zeta functions. The zeta functions covered here are the Selberg zeta functions, the Ihara zeta functions, spectral zeta functions, and those associated with prehomogeneous vector spaces. Accessible to graduate students with background in geometry and number theory, Zeta Functions in Geometry will prove useful for its presentation of new results and up-to-date surveys.

This book was released on 2007-07-18 with total page 806 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years after a 1989 meeting of number theorists and physicists at the Centre de Physique des Houches, a second event focused on the broader interface of number theory, geometry, and physics. This book is the first of two volumes resulting from that meeting. Broken into three parts, it covers Conformal Field Theories, Discrete Groups, and Renormalization, offering extended versions of the lecture courses and shorter texts on special topics.

Book Synopsis Geometry and Spectra of Compact Riemann Surfaces by : Peter Buser
Download or read book Geometry and Spectra of Compact Riemann Surfaces written by Peter Buser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-29 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is a self-contained introduction to the geometry of Riemann Surfaces of constant curvature –1 and their length and eigenvalue spectra. It focuses on two subjects: the geometric theory of compact Riemann surfaces of genus greater than one, and the relationship of the Laplace operator with the geometry of such surfaces. Research workers and graduate students interested in compact Riemann surfaces will find here a number of useful tools and insights to apply to their investigations.

Book Synopsis Rigidity in Dynamics and Geometry by : Marc Burger
Download or read book Rigidity in Dynamics and Geometry written by Marc Burger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of proceedings is an offspring of the special semester Ergodic Theory, Geometric Rigidity and Number Theory which was held at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge, UK, from Jan uary until July, 2000. Beside the activities during the semester, there were workshops held in January, March and July, the first being of introductory nature with five short courses delivered over a week. Although the quality of the workshops was excellent throughout the semester, the idea of these proceedings came about during the March workshop, which is hence more prominently represented, The format of the volume has undergone many changes, but what has remained untouched is the enthusiasm of the contributors since the onset of the project: suffice it to say that even though only two months elapsed between the time we contacted the potential authors and the deadline to submit the papers, the deadline was respected in the vast majority of the cases. The scope of the papers is not completely uniform throughout the volume, although there are some points in common. We asked the authors to write papers keeping in mind the idea that they should be accessible to students. At the same time, we wanted the papers not to be a summary of results that appeared somewhere else.
Book Synopsis Géométrie des pavages : De la conception à la réalisation sur ordinateur by : AUDIBERT Pierre
Download or read book Géométrie des pavages : De la conception à la réalisation sur ordinateur written by AUDIBERT Pierre and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Actes de la Table ronde de géométrie différentielle written by Marcel Berger and published by SMF. This book was released on 1996 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection presents the proceedings from a Roundtable in Differential Geometry organized at the CIRM in Luminy (France) in July 1992 honoring the work of Marcel Berger. The contributions cover most of the fields studied by Berger in differential geometry: holonomy, curvature, spectrum of the Laplacian, isoperimetric and isosystolic inequalities, and some related subjects, such as Alexandrov spaces, elastica, and subriemannian geometry. The authors are mainly geometers who worked with Berger at some time. There are also contributions from younger geometers, and some papers include a brief review--keeping non-experts in mind--of recent results in the authors' particular fields.
