This book was released on 2000 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes an investigation of the organic petrography and hydrocarbon generation potential of the Eocene fossil forests of Axel Heiberg Island, using optical microscopy, reflectance analysis, and Rock-Eval pyrolysis. Results from both petrographic and pyrolysis methods are examined in combination to evaluate the petroleum potential of these materials. Implications for the potential generation of hydrocarbons in the Cenozoic sequences of the Canadian Arctic are discussed.

Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada, Current Research (Online) no. 2000-E15 written by T. J. Katsube and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2000 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a determination of the evolution characteristics of a set of shale pore-structure components (storage porosity, connecting porosity, flow path size, and flow path density) with compaction. The pore-structure component data are derived from bulk petrophysical data (permeability, porosity, and formation factor as a function of increased pressure) reported for seven shale & mudstone samples. Basic pore-structure models and theory are also presented.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents and discusses results of effective porosity, bulk density, & electrical resistivity measurements made on samples from the Giant and Con gold mines, Northwest Territories. The samples represent mineralized and non-mineralized sections of the mines' quartz ankerite veins, sericite schist, chlorite schist, and basalt. The objective of the research is to provide basic data to be used in determining the petrophysical characteristics and electrical conductivity mechanism of these rocks, which would give information required to develop exploration strategies for aiding interpretation of electromagnetic survey data.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents and discusses results of detailed textural examination using scanning electron microscopy on samples from the Giant and Con gold mines, Northwest Territories. The study was a preliminary investigation designed to determine the electrical conductivity mechanisms of the mineralized sericite schist from alteration zones that parallel the gold-bearing quartz veins in the Yellowknife mining district. Results are highlighted for four samples and include schematic representations of rock texture and three-dimensional electrical resistivity. The purpose of the study was to obtain information required to help develop efficient exploration strategies.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formation resistivity factor and pore-surface resistivity values were determined for three mineralized & nonmineralized rock samples from the Giant mine & Con mine areas of the Yellowknife mining district. The purpose was to provide basic information required to understand the electrical conductivity mechanisms of these rocks and to aid interpretation of geophysical surveys conducted in these areas. This paper describes the methods & processes used to obtain the formation factor data & to document the results for use in future studies.

Book Synopsis Tectonics, Sedimentary Basins, and Provenance: A Celebration of the Career of William R. Dickinson by : Raymond V. Ingersoll
Download or read book Tectonics, Sedimentary Basins, and Provenance: A Celebration of the Career of William R. Dickinson written by Raymond V. Ingersoll and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a remarkable combination of intellect, self-confidence, engaging humility, and prodigious output of published work, William R. Dickinson influenced and challenged three generations of sedimentary geologists, igneous petrologists, tectonicists, sandstone petrologists, archaeologists, and other geoscientists. A key figure in the plate-tectonic revolution of the 1960s and 1970s, he explained how the distribution of sediments on Earth's surface could be traced to tectonic processes, and is widely recognized as a founder of modern sedimentary basin analysis. This volume consists of 31 chapters related to Dickinson's research interests; many of the authors are his former students, their students, and their students' students, demonstrating his continuing profound influence. The papers in this volume are an impressive tribute to the depth and breadth of Bill Dickinson's contributions to the geosciences.

Book excerpt: The mission of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Discipline is to provide the information and understanding needed for wise management of the Nation's water resources. Inherent in this mission is the responsibility of collecting data that accurately describe the physical, chemical, and biological attributes of water systems. These data are used for environmental and resource assessments by the USGS, other government agencies and scientific organizations, and the general public. Reliable and quality-assured data are essential to the credibility and impartiality of the water-resources appraisals carried out by the USGS.
