Book excerpt: "Twenty seven articles and eight special maps provide the framework study of this important East European basin. This study was jointly published in 1988 by the AAPG and the Hungarian Geological Society, and includes analysis of the tectonics, sedimentation history, biostratigraphy and correlation, and all aspects of basin development. Reflection seismic studies show the structure of the basin and basement beneath. Also featured are papers about heat flow, basin structures, regional perspective, regional volcanism, organic maturation, and petroleum source, maturation, and migration."--Container.

Download or read book Geology of Hungary written by Janós Haas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-30 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hungary lies in the central part of the Pannonian Basin, surrounded by the ranges of the Alps, Carpathians, and Dinarides. The geology of the country can be summarized as a process whereby complicated plate collision-type orogeny was followed by the formation of a young basin in which a relatively complete sequence of basin infill has been preserved. The handbook “Geology of Hungary” presents an outline of the main features of the geology and geohistory of the region in a single volume, illustrated by a great number of color figures and photos for the benefit of foreign geoscientists interested in this area. The volume follows the evolutionary history of the major structural units prior to their juxtaposition in the Tertiary and discusses the subsequent evolution of the Pannonian Basin. Due to the geohistorical approach to this study it was necessary to extend the scope of the discussion beyond the present-day political boundaries of Hungary, to cover most of the Pannonian region.

Book Synopsis The Mediterranean Basins by : Bernard Durand
Download or read book The Mediterranean Basins written by Bernard Durand and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1999 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The coexistence in space and time of growing mountain belts and actively extending basins poses a number of yet unsolved questions in terms of mechanics. This problem is particularly crucial in the Mediterranean regions, where all Cenozoic basins opened in the internal zones of mountain belts." "This volume brings together contributions from geologists and geophysicists in the quest to solve the complex dynamic problem posed by the Mediterranean region. It presents a wealth of new data on various topics centred on the Mediterranean region from the deep mantle structure to the detailed geometry of sedimentary basins."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Geodynamic Evolution of Sedimentary Basins by : François Roure
Download or read book Geodynamic Evolution of Sedimentary Basins written by François Roure and published by Editions Technips. This book was released on 1996 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, 27 papers deal successively with thematic aspects of basin formation, case history in extensional and compressional basins (either in the CIS Republics or in their Western counterparts), physical and numerical structural models and other modeling techniques used for petroleum potential appraisal in sedimentary basins. These proceedings are of great interest to all geologists dealing with geodynamics of sedimentary basins, either in academic institutions or in the petroleum industry.
Book Synopsis Tectonic Aspects of the Alpine-Dinaride-Carpathian System by : Siegfried Siegesmund
Download or read book Tectonic Aspects of the Alpine-Dinaride-Carpathian System written by Siegfried Siegesmund and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2008 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Alps, Carpathians and Dinarides form a complex, highly curved and strongly coupled orogenic system. Motions of the European and Adriatic plates gave birth to a number of 'oceans' and microplates that led to several distinct stages of collision. Although the Alps serve as a classical example of collisional orogens, it becomes clearer that substantial questions on their evolution can only be answered in the Carpathians and Dinarides. Our understanding of the geodynamic evolution of the Alpine-Dinaride-Carpathian System has substantially improved and will continue to develop; this is thanks to collaboration between eastern and western Europe, but also due to the application of new methods and the launch of research initiatives. The largely field-based contributions investigate the following subjects: pre-Alpine heritage and Alpine reactivation; Mesozoic palaeogeography and Alpine subduction and collision processes; extrusion tectonics from the Eastern Alps to the Carpathians and the Pannonian Basin; orogen-parallel and orogen-perpendicular extension; record of orogeny in foreland basins; tectonometamorphic evolution; and relations between the Alps, Apennines and Corsica.

Book Synopsis Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins by : Cathy Busby
Download or read book Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins written by Cathy Busby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-12-07 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating the complex interplay between tectonics and sedimentation is a key endeavor in modern earth science. Many of the world's leading researchers in this field have been brought together in this volume to provide concise overviews of the current state of the subject. The plate tectonic revolution of the 1960's provided the framework for detailed models on the structure of orogens and basins, summarized in a 1995 textbook edited by Busby and Ingersoll. Tectonics of Sedimentary Basins: Recent Advances focuses on key topics or areas where the greatest strides forward have been made, while also providing on-line access to the comprehensive 1995 book. Breakthroughs in new techniques are described in Section 1, including detrital zircon geochronology, cosmogenic nuclide dating, magnetostratigraphy, 3-D seismic, and basin modelling. Section 2 presents the new models for rift, post-rift, transtensional and strike slip basin settings. Section 3 addresses the latest ideas in convergent margin tectonics, including the sedimentary record of subduction intiation and subduction, flat-slab subduction, and arc-continent collision; it then moves inboard to forearc basins and intra-arc basins, and ends with a series of papers formed under compessional strain regimes, as well as post-orogenic intramontane basins. Section 4 examines the origin of plate interior basins, and the sedimentary record of supercontinent formation. This book is required reading for any advanced student or professional interested in sedimentology, plate tectonics, or petroleum geoscience. Book Synopsis Geodynamics of Rifting by : P.A. Ziegler
Download or read book Geodynamics of Rifting written by P.A. Ziegler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 914 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers giving an interdisciplinary review of 12 major rift systems from North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. These papers are written by an international group of academic and industrial specialists each of whom is most knowledgeable about the respective rift. The analyzed rifts were selected on the basis of availability of an as-complete-as-possible geological and geophysical data base. Thirteen papers deal with geodynamic processes governing the evolution of rifts. A comprehensive digest of the available stratigraphic, structural, geophysical and petrological data, together with an extensive list of references, is provided for each of the analyzed rift systems. The megatectonic setting and dynamics of evolution of each basin is discussed. Geodynamic models are tested against the record of the analyzed rifts. The question of "active" as against "passive" rifting is addressed. The rifts analyzed range in age from Precambrian to Recent and cover a wide spectrum of megatectonic settings. There is discussion of the evolution of rifts in a plate-tectonic frame. The case histories are followed by discussions addressing the global setting of rifts and geodynamic processes active during the development of rifted basins.
