This book was released on 2000 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents geochronological age determinations of zircons from eight plutons in the Grenville Province, Ontario (Oso and Mountain Grove plutons in the Sharbot Lake domain; Silver Lake & Bennett Bay plutons and Fall River mangeritic augen gneiss associated with the Maberly shear zone; North Crosby & Pike Lake plutons in the north-west sheared part of the Frontenac terrane; and the Beales Mills pluton in the interior of the Frontenac terrane). The results are used to propose a re-interpretation of the tectonics of the Frontenac suite and the origin of the magmas responsible.
Book Synopsis The Changing Role of Geological Surveys by : P.R. Hill
Download or read book The Changing Role of Geological Surveys written by P.R. Hill and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Senior managers and Heads of Geological Survey Organizations (GSOs) from around the world have contributed a collection of papers to provide a benchmark on how GSOs are responding to national and international needs in a rapidly changing world. GSOs continue to provide key scientific information about Earth systems, natural hazards and climate change. As countries adopt sustainable development principles and the public increasingly turns to social media to find information about resource and environmental issues, the generation and communication of Earth science knowledge become increasingly important. This volume provides a snapshot of how GSOs are adapting their activities to this changing world. The different national perspectives presented converge around several common themes related to resources, environment and big data. Climate change and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals provide an increased incentive for GSOs of the world to work in harmony, to generate knowledge of Earth systems and to provide solutions for sustainable management of the planet.

Book Synopsis Geological Survey of Canada, Current Research (Online) no. 2000-F6 by : T. Praamsma
Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada, Current Research (Online) no. 2000-F6 written by T. Praamsma and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2000 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines aspects of the geological evolution of the Sharbot Lake domain and compares it with that of neighbouring domains & terranes in the Central metasedimentary belt, Grenville Province, Ontario. The study reports uranium-lead zircon & titanite geochronological ages for a granodiorite phase of the Pakenham intrusion from the northern part of the Sharbot Lake domain. The new data expand the known range of magmatism in this part of the belt, elucidate the early tectonic evolution of the domain, and constrain the timing of overprinting metamorphism. Possible links between the Pakenham structure and the Wolf Grove structure to the south-east are also discussed.

Book excerpt: Presents a geochronological and geochemical study of the Barbers Lake and McLean plutons in the Grenville Province of Ontario, including comparisons of whole-rock analyses of these plutons with the Elphin and Leggat Lake plutons. The assignment of various plutons in the study area to one of several age groups is discussed.
Book Synopsis Geology of the Appalachian—Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland by : Harold Williams
Download or read book Geology of the Appalachian—Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland written by Harold Williams and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1995 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the Canadian Appalachian region. The chapter on the East Greenland Caledonides stands alone and there is no attempt to integrate the geological accounts of the two far removed regions. Rocks of the Canadian Appalachian region are described under four broad temporal divisions: lower Paleozoic and older, middle Paleozoic, upper Paleozoic, and Mesozoic. The rocks of these temporal divisions define geographic zones, belts, basins, and graben, respectively. The area is of special interest because so many modern concepts of mountain building are based on Appalachian rocks & structures.

Book Synopsis Whence the Mountains? by : James W. Sears
Download or read book Whence the Mountains? written by James W. Sears and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 19 original papers on the tectonic evolution of mountain systems were collected to mark the 50th anniversary of Price's description of the Canadian Cordillera. A sampling of topics turns up the driving mechanism and three-dimensional circulation of plate tectonics, the Belt-Purcell Basic as the keystone of the Rocky Mountain fold-and-thrust belt in the US and Canada, Silurian-Devonian orogenic events in the central Appalachians and the crystalline southern Appalachians, and defining the eastern boundary of the North Asian craton from structural and subsidence history studies of the Verkhoyansk fold-and-thrust belt. A fold-out sheet of color maps and diagrams is tucked into a pocket inside the back cover.
