Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kevin Giles has been writing on women in the Bible for over forty years. In this book, What the Bible Actually Teaches on Women, he gives the most comprehensive account to date of the competing conclusions to this question and the issues surrounding it. To understand the bitter and divisive debate among evangelicals over the status and ministry of women, it needs to be understood that those who since 1990 have called themselves "complementarians" argue that in creation before the fall God set the man over the woman. Thus, the leadership of the man and the subordination of the woman in the home, the church, and wherever possible in the world (the whole creation) is the God-given ideal that is pleasing to God. It is this "theology" that Kevin Giles deconstructs and shows to be without a biblical foundation. Giles shows that he is fully conversant with the complementarian position and yet is unpersuaded by it. He sees it as an appeal to the Bible to preserve male privilege, similar to the appeals to the Bible to validate slavery and Apartheid; appeals to the Bible made by some of the best Reformed and evangelical biblical scholars, and now seen to be special pleading. Carefully studying the limited number of texts on which complementarians predicate their theology of the sexes, Giles finds not one of them actually teaches what complementarians claim. Furthermore, complementarians too often ignore the texts that are very difficult for them. In this book the ordination of women gets only passing mention. The constant focus is on whether or not the Bible subordinates women to men as an abiding theological principle.

Moving beyond other treatments that primarily focus on select passages, this winsome volume traces Scripture’s overarching pattern related to male-female relationships in both the Old and New Testaments. Those interested in careful discussion rather than caustic debate will discover that God’s design is not confining or discriminatory but beautiful, wise, liberating, and good.

Book excerpt: In 1955 on a visit to South Africa, Robert Ardrey became aware of the growing evidence that man had evolved on the African continent from carnivorous, predatory stock, who had also, long before man, achieved the use of weapons. A dramatist, Ardrey's interest in the African discoveries sprang less from purely scientific grounds than from the radical new light they cast on the eternal question: Why do we behave as we do? Are we naturally inclined towards war and weapons? From 1955 to 1961, Ardrey commuted between the museums and libraries and laboratories of the North, and the games reserves and fossil beds of Africa trying to answer that question. Eventually, his investigation expanded to include nationalism and patriotism, private property and social order, hierarchy and status-seeking, even conscience. All revealed roots in our most ancient animal beginnings and parallels in primate societies. African Genesis is at once the story of an unprecedented personal search and a story of man that had never before been told. It is a shocking book in that it challenges assumptions of human uniqueness that color every segment of modern thought and every aspect of our daily life. While evolutionary science has advanced markedly since Ardrey's times, his insights on human behavior have a timeless quality and African Genesis remains a classic reference for anyone exploring life's biggest questions. Praise for the 1961 edition: "It is fate and fortune of some books to mark or make a turning point in science and culture. This I believe African Genesis will do." Dr Harlow Shapley, Harvard University "The most enjoyable and stimulating book on the evolution of man that has been published for some time." The Nation "What this sensational book presents is a new and radical interpretation of human behavior. Since Ardrey has written it with excitement, clarity and style, the book will undoubtedly be widely read and cause widespread controversy. But African Genesis also deserves the most serious attention on the part of scientists as well as laymen." Dr Kenneth Oakley, Leading British Anthropologist, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, British Museum "Mr Ardrey's African Genesis is a fascinating drama played on a very broad and deep stage of space, time, biological evolution and ideas. The theme develops around man's striving to collect evidence and to understand the relational orders and timed sequences of living organisms. The search is for rational light on the true place of man himself in these biotic orders, and in the vast sweeps of the controlling environments. In this high drama the characters enter, leave relics and artifacts, act their roles as species, express their views and then exit. Among the characters are men of prehistory, nonhuman primates and the searching scientists themselves. The latter quarrel and dispute, cooperate and agree, strive for status and retreat from controversy. They are 'humans' as portrayed skillfully by Ardrey. Nevertheless, they contribute to the slowly advancing understanding of man in his living world or to what Ardrey describes as a revolution of biological conceptions." C. R. Carpenter, Penn State University "This quarrel about the innate nature of man began outside the gates of Eden, was continued by Darwin and Wallace and now looms menacingly across the threshold of the United Nations. Mr Ardrey has peered into our inner human darkness with wisdom gained from discoveries of natural history." Loren Eiseley, Benjamin Franklin Professor of Anthropology and History of Science, University of Pennsylvania

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Dr. Fleming explains her groundbreaking discoveries of the Hebrew text of Genesis 2-3 and what these chapters show us about both the nature of God and the dynamics of the human relationships in the beginning. Genesis 2 is a description of God at work. As we see how the human race was and is Gods delight, this early part of Genesis tells of two human beings each specially handmade by God. It speaks of their spiritual life and how they related to the Creators care and command. Because they were two people, we see societal interplay between them. And because they were responsible for their actions, the Creator deals with each one individually. Dr. Flemings careful research in Hebrew shows how Genesis 3 describes sin at work. Key words, when correctly translated, bring about a richer and more accurate understanding of Gods words to the serpent, the woman, and the man. Dr. Fleming includes diagrams of elegant structures found in the Hebrew that reveal with surprising clarity how many curses are actually pronounced and looks at Gods treatment of each character based on their intentions and unique relationship to God. Common myths are refuted and misconceptions are made obvious in the light of a correct understanding of the Hebrew text.

Book excerpt: Are we genetically linked to a REAL person named Adam? SUMMARY: Allen Epling, author of Beyond Genesis: The Untold Story of Man´s Origins, offers an alternative explanation for the origin of man that is unique and different from the usual Creationism versus Evolution debate. This book is not just a book of "explanations" of single events based on science, but the COMPLETE, credible, story of man from the beginning. Unlike other books on the subject of Genesis that attempt to explain individual events with science, this book pulls the whole story together into a narrative that flows seamlessly from the creation through the flood, and beyond, while maintaining scientific credibility. By proving that we have a GENETIC signature that goes back to biblical times, it reveals a PLAN of God not seen before, through new insights which uncover what really happened in Genesis, a story that has previously gone unnoticed, and untold. The author presents timely new explanations for the "myths" of Genesis, based on recent scientific evidence. The theme throughout is that the book of Genesis is accurate historically, and that modern man is the result of a combination of BOTH the evolutionary processes, AND a unique, separate line of man, the one referred to in Genesis that descended from Adam. The book also reveals the ultimate "plan" for man and that it is not finished!! This book was written because of a belief that the book of Genesis has a historical basis and is significant in the history of man. However, the author doesn't fall into the trap of others who go against common beliefs of the scientific community, of completely repudiating data that is reliable and accepted, almost universally, by all scientists. The basic assumption in this work is that both the scientific community and the religious fundamentalists have misinterpreted the data, and the answer lies somewhere in between. The author attempts to show in this book that the stories of Genesis are based on truth and are believable if we make only a few adjustments to the translation and interpretation of the original Hebrew Bible. Anthropologists and historians universally agree that something extraordinary did happen between 2500 BC and 2000 BC that lifted man out of the Stone Age into civilization. Our systems of government, our written language, our way of building cities are all a result of that one giant leap from ignorance to enlightenment. Was that "technology explosion" so
