A translator of his Commentary on Genesis has therefore only to speak of the editions of the original, and of any features of the translation which require remark. The edition (1892) from which the present translation is made is generally quoted as the sixth. It is, however, only the fourth from Dillmann's own hand. His first edition was a revision of a commentary by August Knobel, which had already passed through two editions.
