Book Synopsis Precious Memories, The Faith-Promoting Series Book 16 by : George C. Lambert
Download or read book Precious Memories, The Faith-Promoting Series Book 16 written by George C. Lambert and published by Zion's Camp Books. This book was released on with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 16th book in the Faith-Promoting Series, and the second volume primarily written by George C. Lambert. Lambert worked closely with George Q. Cannon at Deseret Book, and after Cannon’s death he continued publishing volumes in this series. This book, just like the previous book in the series, Treasures in Heaven, has a special emphasis on temples and geneology work. The story of Thomas Briggs is one of a life-long pursuit to find geneological records. In spite of great personal and physical trials, including the amputation of his legs, Briggs made finding the names of his ancestors a priority in his life. He worked ofter at the Logan Temple, and before his death he had amassed a huge collection of geneology. George L. Farrell was a missionary in England in 1875. He had unique experiences with a number of people, and they continued later in his life when people he had ministered to there moved to Utah. The book concludes with a number of short experiences, regarding missionary work and the changes possible when the Spirit touches people’s hearts.
Book Synopsis Myth of the “Manuscript Found" And The Complete Original Spaulding Manuscript by : George Reynolds
Download or read book Myth of the “Manuscript Found" And The Complete Original Spaulding Manuscript written by George Reynolds and published by Zion's Camp Books. This book was released on with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any member of the LDS Church has been told reasons why the Book of Mormon “just can’t be true”. One of the most common that seems to persist in folk culture is the myth that Sidney Rigdon wrote the Book of Mormon by basing it on the Spaulding Manuscript. The manuscript that Spaulding wrote and tried to sell to a publisher in 1812 contains the story of a group of ancient Romans that sail to the American continent and populate it. Sidney Rigdon supposedly read this manuscript during his acquaintane with the publisher, and used it as a basis for what would become the Book of Mormon. The first half of this book, the eleventh book in the Faith-Promoting Series, was originally published by Deseret Book in 1883 examines both the story behind the manuscript and the claims that Rigdon wrote the Book of Mormon. It was published the year that Spaulding’s original manuscript was found in papers donated to Oberlin University. It details not only the differences between the manuscript and the Book of Mormon, but also gives additional information that may be useful when a member of the Church is asked to defend the Book of Mormon from detractors. Following the Faith-Promoting Series book, I have also included the text of the original Spaulding Manuscript as it has been transcribed from the original manuscript submitted to the published by Spaulding. As an adventure story it has some interesting moments, but it really can’t compare to the Book of Mormon in excitement or depth. I hope that you enjoy perusing it, and that someday it will come of use to you when discussing the Book of Mormon.

Book Synopsis A House for the Most High by : Matthew McBride
Download or read book A House for the Most High written by Matthew McBride and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This awe-inspiring book is a tribute to the perseverance of the human spirit. A House for the Most High is a groundbreaking work from beginning to end with its faithful and comprehensive documentation of the Nauvoo Temple’s conception. The behind-the-scenes stories of those determined Saints involved in the great struggle to raise the sacred edifice bring a new appreciation to all readers. McBride’s painstaking research now gives us access to valuable first-hand accounts that are drawn straight from the newspaper articles, private diaries, journals, and letters of the steadfast participants. The opening of this volume gives the reader an extraordinary window into the early temple-building labors of the besieged Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the development of what would become temple-related doctrines in the decade prior to the Nauvoo era, and the 1839 advent of the Saints in Illinois. The main body of this fascinating history covers the significant years, starting from 1840, when this temple was first considered, to the temple’s early destruction by a devastating natural disaster. A well-thought-out conclusion completes the epic by telling of the repurchase of the temple lot by the Church in 1937, the lot’s excavation in 1962, and the grand announcement in 1999 that the temple would indeed be rebuilt. Also included are an astonishing appendix containing rare and fascinating eyewitness descriptions of the temple and a bibliography of all major source materials. Mormons and non-Mormons alike will discover, within the pages of this book, a true sense of wonder and gratitude for a determined people whose sole desire was to build a sacred and holy temple for the worship of their God.

CANNON Key features of this book: - Unabridged with 100% of it’s original content - Available in multiple formats: eBook, original paperback and large print paperback - Easy-to-read 12 pt. font size - Proper paragraph formatting with Indented first lines, 1.25 Line Spacing and Justified Paragraphs - Properly formatted for aesthetics and ease of reading. - Custom Table of Contents and Design elements for each chapter - The Copyright page has been placed at the end of the book, as to not impede the content and flow of the book. Original publication: 1894 The Prophet Nephi, whose life we here present, was one of the greatest and most advanced of these teachers of heavenly truths. There have been but few men, so far as we know, who comprehended, and spoke, and wrote about them as plainly as did he. He had a personal knowledge of the doctrines, principles and facts respecting which men now dispute. He has written fully upon them. His testimony, therefore, is worth more to the world than any number of men's opinions and theories. And, best of all, it carries within itself the highest evidence of its truth. This is characteristic of his writings, and of all the writings in the Book of Mormon. To every humble, prayerful soul the perusal of that book is a solace. It produces peace and joy, and brings the clear conviction that it is God's word. No arguments are required to prove this. Men have assailed and denounced it; but the indisputable truth still remains that, when read with a meek spirit and a prayerful heart, the testimony of its divine origin descends like refreshing dew from heaven, upon the reader, and he knows, by the Spirit and power of God, that it is His word. This book is great for schools, teachers and students or for the casual reader, and makes a wonderful addition to any classic literary library At Latter-day Strengths we have taken the time and care into formatting this book to make it the best possible reading experience. Original publication: 1883 The so-called "Spaulding story" has been for many years past the last refuge of those who have undertaken to prove that the Book of Mormon is not what it claims to be. All other hypothesis have long since been committed to limbo as too silly, too outrageous or too inconsistent even for a gullible anti-"Mormon" public. In this short treatise we have endeavored to prove the utter untenability of this theory. We have shown that the upholders of this myth are not only at variance with each other, but that all their assertions are inconsistent with the well-known facts associated with its discovery; and when we proceed further to examine the internal evidence of the book we very soon discover that the conglomeration of conjectures, guesses, suppositions, etc., of which this "Spaulding story" is formed is "as unstable as water" and utterly unworthy of belief. At Latter-day Strengths we have taken the time and care into formatting this book to make it the best possible reading experience. Book Synopsis String of Pearls by : George Q. Cannon

Book excerpt: String Of Pearls, Book Two of the Faith-Promoting Series is a collection of missionary experiences, revelation, and beginnings. The first section of this book is the account of an emigrant who lived among the Ponca Indians, a tribe east of the Mississippi in the Ohio River Valley. W.C.S. describes hardships that greatly increased his faith since he looked on his experience as an "Indian Mission". Other accounts include the missionary experiences of Jedediah M. Grant, a future member of the Church's First Presidency, President John Taylor's journey across the plains and an unusual prophecy that was received, and the commencement of missionary work in Ireland, with experiences of Matthias Cowley, David W. Patten and several other early Saints. The book ends with the poem “Joseph Smith’s First Prayer”, the poem upon which the LDS hymn is based. The Faith-Promoting Series includes 17 books which were largely written by Deseret Book founder George Q. Cannon, but also include books by Wilford Woodruff and other early LDS leaders.
Book Synopsis Labors in the Vineyard by : George Q. Cannon
Download or read book Labors in the Vineyard written by George Q. Cannon and published by Zion's Camp Books. This book was released on with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 12th book in the Faith-Promoting Series. Like many of the other wonderful books in this series, this book is a collection of experiences from missionaries, pioneers, and early Church members. The stories range from the miraculous with amazing examples of the Lord’s hand reaching out to help Saints in need, to the deeply spiritual and personal. While the Saints who tell these stories have long since passed on, their experiences and the faith that sustained them are just as relevant for us today as they were for their contemporaries. I hope that the stories told here will strengthen your faith just as they have strengthened mine, and will bring you closer to the Savior. The Faith-Promoting Series was started by George Q. Cannon, the founder of Deseret Book, as a way to help youth who weren’t interested in reading “gospel books” have quality, spiritually-uplifting materials to read. They were extremely popular when published in the 1800s and remain so today.
